I agree, it's like they can't think of any cool weapon designs so they'll just make everything super flashy so that we don't see what they look like behind all the glow.

I would just like a toggle.
Then again, I should probably get a tacky glowing weapon in the first place.
I think the glow effects are cool and a good way to show upgraded weapons.
I enjoy the glowing effects to a certain extent, such as the fact the colour is the same as the soul stone of the job you have it equipped too. However I do agree that there should be a toggle on/off for those that don't want it or find it too obnoxious/immersion breaking.
It would be nice to see redesigns for other jobs but as we see every update pld is SE's little baby and gets everything special. It got changes to it's sword/shield and they look better but every other job(that I can think of seeing) just got a color change. Also some weapons, like the blm staff, when sheathed looks like poo, the animus made it look better by making it look exactly like damaged one you use in the quest(funny how a damaged version actually looks better then the finished version). however this was just adding silver to the black spots. When you unsheeth a blm weapon it comes alive, the ball glows and the metal takes on a different color and seems to be alive. it's very amazing work. and then you get animus and it all gets hidden, and you get an ugly color scheme, that doesn't even reflect the now pink/yellow nature of the weapon. also Pink is in every blm relic weapon purple and yellow are not so if anything we should have a pink glow and not purple.
Elemental glows on primal weapons is something I've wanted to see ever since Levi weapon's bubbles. It fits.
I think developer time is better spent on making new content then developing some switch to turn off all glows for the few people who don't like them. The solution is already in the game if you don't like a glow then glamor your weapon.
Glow-y-ness on a weapon is kind of a silly idea in the first place. Would you want to stand out on the battlefield so that people can see you better to kill you? lol Maybe if you were the tank... that's the only way I could see it being a good thing.
If there was some legendary weapon that had a .0001% chance to drop from turn 9 or something and it glowed, that would be perfectly fine. Then it wouldn't be *everywhere*. But basically it's a special snowflake thing that everyone has, so it's not special and just distracting. If it were just a few random people that had a glowy weapon then people might actually be impressed with the effect! :p And yes, basically most every level 50 has a glowy weapon. Getting your zenith is like the first thing someone tries to do when they hit 50. Sadly, there are some that aren't able to do it, but a majority are. If people *must* have glowy weapons, I'm cool with it, just why is it the baseline? It's too over the top to be baseline.
Hey, did you know?
They spent time redoing the tethers because of the *few* color blind people who play this game? Remember how red tethers used to be solid red lines and now they're dotted generally orange lines? The AoE indicators used to be Red and now they're pulsing orange?
Just because you like it doesn't mean it would be a waste of time to give people who want to toggle it on/off the ability to do so - some things are a waste of resources, like minions, as they do absolutely nothing for gameplay lol, but they'll continue to make em for the people who like to collect them.
Glowing effects? Bring em 'on

To me, the glowy effects just scream "cheap free to play Korean mmo!" At me. Which isn't a good thing.
The glow effects would be acceptable if the realm was a techno night club, or a land of eternal darkness where we need giant glow sticks to see.
I agree with OP.
I don't like the glow of the relics and always glamour my weapons to something without a glow. Please Dev. team, allow us to turn it off for others.
I play this game with most battle effects off because the whole screen is so over the top with glow effects. IMHO the action effects and relic glow looks pretty gaudy/cheesy . Especially this early in the game... what will we have at the next level cap when our lvl 30 class actions look like they could destroy a small village, Not to mention how flashy lvl 50 jobs are right now.
Everyone say that my Novus's glow looks like yellow-pee. :(
They should make a solid gold relic
Couldn't help but think of this.
But eh. OP seems like a moot point. Devs are going to do what they're going to do. If you really want something implemented that bad, do what every other person has: make an "X or riot" thread, get everyone to QQ over it and if you get enough votes you can win American Idol /sarcasm.
But seriously, that's how the equality in marriage issue occurred.
This was actually my plan for Bravura. I love the bloody axe look of atma, hate how it turns into a giant lolipop with animus. Could probably be the reason why I'm hunting down several extra sets of atmas.
LOL, I didn't even think of ninjas...
Glow is aesthetically pleasing but a really silly idea tactically... It's like "Look at me! I'm glowing! I'm so special!" and everyone answers in unison: "I can't see you, all the people glowing has blinded meh!"
We are a swarm of lightning bugs destined to be caught by a 4th grader in a jar to be forgotten about a hour later!
i personally like the glow. at least it's only when in combat as apposed to all the time.
Eh honestly I don't care about the glow too much. If I don't like it I'll glamour it. I honestly don't see the big deal here .-. That's why they made the glamour system.
What would be nice though is something like the book of spades. The effects of it like that red circle around the book when you open it that was kinda cool.
I can handle subtle glowing or pulsing effects, but yeah, the Animus+ weapons are really ostentatious and gaudy. The first thing I thought when they were added was, "Oh, Squenix is trying to follow in TERA's footsteps now. Wonderful."
I agree with everyone here saying that it would be nice to have an option to turn glow on/off for you and others. Personally I find it annoying since they are not subtle by any means, and patch after patch it's getting worse with more fancy dandy lights and christmas lolipops everywhere. I mean, if at least they were something special... I don't know, like a rare legendary item hard to get, that'd be ok.
Also saying that majority of people likes these massive glows... I'm not so sure about it.
I have no more solid information on this point than anyone else in the thread, but my guess would be that the majority like it briefly the first time they get something with a special glow, because at that point (compared to what they'd previously been using) it would still seem special. But that "specialness" would wear off fast as they start doing more content where everyone has the upgraded glowing weapons. It wouldn't take long before the glow becomes either annoying or irrelevant, depending on the player's preferences. So, there's perhaps a brief period where the majority may be happy with it followed by a much longer period where the majority are annoyed by it (or at the least the majority of those who care one way or the other). Seems enough to justify some good alternatives.
sort of like diminishing returns. What at first seems potent looses its intensity the more they come accustomed to it.
One of many reasons I don't care for glows and spikes in the first place. You gotta keep pushing it more and more to make it look more impressive till in the end you have this totally ridiculous piece of nonsense that looks like it came from a young teens deviantart page. Especially prominent with a game with linear gear progression.
I feel the KISS principle is important in all design. I find good gear design is subtle, clear, and iconic.
When you have a new, even more powerful weapon upgrade, try bringing out more of the original designs beauty. Stuff like a good polish, more vivid color, or a subtle evolution in its overall design. You know, don't go overboard.

That image of the swords is exactly what I'd like to see more of.
Glad this topic is starting to have some actual discussion now after the knee jerk reaction to the original post has tapered off.
Well there is some form evolution in some weapons, such as the Flame GC axe, is built like the Bravura, and the Allagan axe shares that same track. Maelstrom Anchor for instance is version of the model that the Dual Haken is off of. So its there but eventually glows will not be cool but there are other effects like floating runes similar to Alqo and Tridisaster or the swirls on the armor we have seen in the video that reminds me of gunmages gun from X-2.
But really I hope that no matter what the effect is they will limit it to battle stance. Sure there are the glitches but if in the current method nothing glowes out of combat/fighting stance I hope the armor carries this trait.
Dont like the glow? By the time 2.4 comes you'll see everyone walking around like

I personally loathe the glow. I wish they could add a toggle. Not saying other people can't enjoy it, I just wish I could turn mine off.
Glowing armour, yes please
as long as it doesnt cause slowdown when eight people are in a party with glowing armor and weapons I'll bear it.
edit: also as long as i can see whats happening.
