Funny cause XI was my first MMO, and you know, I don't love mandatory grouping. In fact what I LOVE is being able to log in and accomplish something, sometimes with a group, sometimes, not.

I said accomplish something, not bore myself to death.
I feel like I can just barely complete 1 star leves at BW as a 45 THM (I die at least once half the time) and I only get ~3-5k total with bonus + kills. Either I'm bad at the game or soloing is terribly inefficient now. I've even adjusted my spells to accomodate the awful MP costs now like using Stygian Spikes over Shock Spikes. DoTs do sufficient damage, but I literally have to spam heals the entire time and if I have too many resists I die on any pull with more than 1 enemy.
Don't even bother trying to reason with these people - when you tell them real facts about how this patch screws players they will say one of the following things:
a) Why don't you just quit! Don't let the door hit you on the way out!
b) Go back to WoW, you baby!
c) Why don't you make some friends!
d) Managing MP (aka standing around waiting for your bar to refill) is challenging!
e) lern2play
All while probably calling you stupid, whiny, lazy or whatever.
It is too bad. I feel your pain, this patch was a massive slap in the face to anyone who doesn't have multiple rank 50s and a full LS of people who ranked up by purposely failing leves. It might be "balanced" for those raids that people will do in their closed little linkshell worlds but everywhere else, it is broken.
I cannot fathom how yoshi could say "don't worry we are not nerfing sp and we don't want the game to be an unbearable grind," and then not only nerf levequest SP, but multiple classes as well.
I'm not complaining. I enjoy a challenge. I am really liking the new combat system, but if my situation is just the norm for THM from this point forward, I can see it becoming a big problem for players that prefer a more relaxing solo atmosphere. But it could just be a matter of not fully adapting yet, I hope Square lets the community crack out all the numbers before going crazy with nerfs.
I should note pre patch I was soloing these exact same leves on 3 stars, and aimed to solo monsters 10 levels higher than me and usually did so efficiently and easily, so I like to think I'm not terrible at soloing.
Well this is from the patch notes "[dev1032] To coincide with adjustments to actions, the strength of several enemies has been adjusted." They probably increased the difficulty of the mobs for that particular leve.
Anyway I wouldn't worry too much, they're probably be adjusting things for awhile.
Sounds like you were just getting too used to an overpowered class and skillset, to be honest.
First day, of the First overhaul patch.
I wish these threads could be a little more constructive rather than all the rage quit, QQ bull sh**. There is voicing your concerns, facts, and opinions on a patch and then there is just whining which is what the majority of this thread is.
Yeah, THM was overpowered, no secret there. I suppose I should have quoted the PGL that posted above me claiming they soloed BW leves at 2 star at R43 (two ranks below me) with ease and found them to be efficient SP. So with the limited info I have, it seems THM may have suffered slightly more than other classes. But like I said before, I'm not crying nerf, I enjoy the challenge, but I can see why others would complain. Some people prefer a relaxing solo environment with the challenge residing in party play. It wasn't just one leve I did, it was Cracked, RR, Dunes, Thwack a Mole, and A Terrible Thirst. They were all borderline undoable. They became easier after switching to Stygian Spikes, but were still incredibly difficult on 1 star. Even the puks that were R40 (5 levels below me) were giving me trouble.
I kept Protect/Shell up, opened with all 3 DoTs, then Slow, and used Drain on CD (dont think this was worth it) with Siphon after battle (on a corpse). Maybe Paralyze would have been better than Slow.
Isn't soloing in MMO's more applicable after endgame...?
If you wanna solo go buy a console game, there's lots of good ones out there. A lot of them have NPCs who will act like your friend.
I agree. To the OP, it's good you started this topic, so that the developers have an idea of what to tackle and how it can be fixed. On the other hand, don't get too down. Part of the fun in an MMO is partying and grinding, for me anyways. I've been playing MMO's a long time and I remember my first one, "Pristontale". I thought it was the greatest thing ever! But man oh man, it wasn't solo friendly at all. But I didn't care, because I had an open mind instead of thinking about what other games I'd played and how it compares, and how I don't like that it's the exact same, because I couldn't, I was an mmo virgin at that point.
Anyways, what I'm getting at is, yes, it should probably be looked into and adjusted, which I'm sure it will be, and most importantly of all, enjoy the game for what it is. It's communication, background music, scenery, coupled with your own virtual persona to level up and work hard for to be able to see the fruit of your online labor. Not to mention that great feeling you get when you score a nice new shiny item or upgrade one. So.. Work hard! Party if you want to. If not, take the game at your own pace my friend ;). It's not a race. We're all here for fun! Well I am anyways! So go solo bud, and explore, and immerse yourself in the fine piece of art we call FFXIV.
