Exactly, just like the way I said "if you're overgeared for the event go Selene", that "overgeared" is a judgement call based not only on myself but the whole party, and there's been times I've switched to Eos after a wipe, either because people are taking more damage than they should, and in some cases in T5 where sometimes in the early phases more speed is more of a liability than a benefit.

you clearly dont understand the usefulness of fey illum.

i use it to buff my fairy heals to allow me to DPS constantly in dungeons. by keeping up stoneskin(not affected by stance) and by rotating fey illum, rouse + dawn , virus and eye i can effectively allow my fairy to solo heal every encounter in the game up to ex primals without ever having to leave cleric stance(tho occasionally i may throw out a lustrate here or there, i dont have to drop stance for that). the dps i generate in cleric stance FAAAR exceeds any benefit to using selene instead

eos will always be the superior fairy unless selene gets a major overhaul

even in the expert dungeons? or on big pulls? it sounds a bit risky to me.

what if the tank decides to pull big? what if the dps decide to stand in bad stuff? with selene out you would most likely be dropping stance to help her out, especially without any group regen spell

Stance dancing isn't hard. Also, you will naturally have downtime once all your DoTs are applied. Ruin is filler on a SMN, on a SCH it's what you cast when you have literally nothing else to do.
Apply all DoTs, Bane --> SC --> Shadowflare etc etc. I can do it all with Selene. Maybe if you wanted to DPS while doing the most intense version of Bray SR you'd need Eos. Otherwise Selene all the way...

Even Titan Extreme can be easily healed with Selene.

I can't justify Selene. The buffs aren't strong enough. Maybe if they bring it up to 40~50% then I'll take a second look.

Eos is king

Selene can solo heal everything but ex primals and coil
on big pulls like 7+ mobs i'd suggest shielding as much as you can prior to pull, having lustrates ready, rouse the fey and dps with others until down to last lustrate.

This is exactly my issue with Selene.

I agree that if Eos is completely superfluous in that if you have no use for the +healing, HoT, or magic defense AoEs, then Selene is obviously better. Unfortunately, even in that case, she's not better by very much at all since her effect on actual casting speed is extremely minimal and has a 50% uptime for either type.

It's difficult to love Selene when Eos provides more tangible benefits, even if her two buffing actions are more situational due to their limited uptime. It'd be nice to have a reason to use Selene besides her being the non-overhealing option for parties that don't need anything from Eos or for very specific skin-of-your-teeth DPS races where shaving ~0.14 seconds off of a cast actually can make the difference.

Ok this is some napkin maths might be wrong but meh, btw the times were taking from a previous casting/spell speed analysis.
But the 30% buff selene provides is effective, even more so when you dont need Eos.
-30% on a base BLM spell speed 341 will provide a total casting reduction of .54secs which brings Fire I to 1.96 cast.

Lets take a 30 second period of uninterrupted casting -
Without buff 12 casts will = 1800 potency
With buff 15 casts = 2250
that's a 450 potency boost lets say 2 Blms 900 potency boost + the affect on others. Please note that is a boost over 30 secs, when considering the whole fight it would be a significant boost.

There is no reason not to use Selene when Eos isnt specifically required.

Selene's buff applies directly to the spell/skill speed stats, not to the effective casting time. On my SCH, for example, it's between 5-6% effective casting time reduction based on the ability. Base cast of 1.92 becomes 1.81; 2.4 becomes 2.27; and so on.

It's better than nothing, but it's still pretty anemic.

how can it apply direct stats, it needs to be applied to a base stat ?
Those numbers were pulled from the results of Spell speed stat being buffed, I will test when I get back.

Yeah, check it out for yourself when you can. The actual result is disappointing. If she really could take half a second off of an average-length cast, I'd love her to death :)

Here's the thing:

If you need extra healing -- Eos is better
If you don't need extra healing -- Selene is better

And from my perspective:

Fights that need extra healing -- T5 and ScoB?? (I haven't done this content yet outside of T5 practice)
Fights that don't need extra healing -- Everything else

Ergo: Selene is what I go with.

Selene gives me .1ish off cast/recast times. If she gave half a second? My god no one would use anything else, the cast/recast time shaved off our own heals would outweigh Eos right off the bat... but .1ish? Its barely, and I do mean BARELY noticeable. Shes good for people who cant take the time/have the ability to control the fairy full time AND their own abilities but thats it.

To me, its WAY easier to set Eos up to control every ability she has, turn on cleric stance and DPS while I use Eos to heal for regular things, and still use Eos for harder content too.

Seriously, Selene is kinda crappy overall.

Eh, to each their own. As long as the heals are coming, and nobody died, you did a fine job. Personally I prefer Selene though. Just because her cooldowns are much easier to manage, as opposed to Eos's cooldowns, which you forget is available sometimes, aside from Whispering Dawn. Also because more deeps. Most of the time you won't even need Eos's extra heals and healing buffs.

If you're a skilled scholar, you'll find an effective way to manage your fairies, and you'll figure out which situations suit you best, and have fun healing. I find Scholar fun at least.
