I think Zi'tah is worlds more atmospheric and enveloping than Black Shroud.
As for the topic, I wouldn't want to see a verbatim remake of a FFXI zone in XIV. I would however love to see zones added in the same "theme". Something like Zi'tah, Wajoam would be great as mentioned. Jungle environs like Elshimo region would be great. Arctic, Northern environments with convincing weather would be great. The ship graveyard of Ilrusi Atoll was always very thick with atmosphere to me. Sea Serpent Grotto was an *awesome* area... sprawling, creepy and very thick with ambience.
In all, with what they were able to pull off with XI's environments, I can just about imagine what they could do if they put that much care into them with XIV.
I can understand some people answering the thread topic in a very verbatim manner... They're asking about what zones from XI you'd like to see in XIV and so, a response to the effect of "let Vana'diel be Vana'diel. Let Eorzea be Eorzea" is perfectly appropriate I think.
They are different worlds (shared player races and mob models (qiqirns and goblins) aside), and so should definitely have their own geography and setting.
That said... I have no problem with people expressing that they'd love to see areas introduced into XIV with the same "feeling" or "ambience" of places from XI. XI was absolutely oozing with atmosphere in a lot of its zones and, really, who wouldn't want that in a virtual world? It's what helped give each zone its own personality and its own sense of "place", rather than just being a generic background to quest in or travel through.
So, to be sure, when I say "I'd love to see a zone like Zi'tah.", I'm not asking for SE to verbatim copy Zi'tah from XI into XIV (though it'd be awesome to see it updated to and rendered with XIV's graphics tech - drool). I think it'd be kinda lame and extremely lazy, to be honest. But I would love it if they created zones that captured that zones sort of "mystical enchanted forest" feel.
Asking for a certain feel or ambience to be recaptured is not the same as asking for entire zones to be copied wholesale. So, perhaps the people who are dead-set against zones being copied could share their preference in terms of certain moods or themes that they loved in XI and would love to see re-imagined in XIV. I can't see how anyone can be "offended" by that.
LOL! Can you imagine?
I have a feeling the reaction would be something like the first ~12 seconds of this vid.
Can we just let FFXI be and move on? Why remake a game or anything about it that is still currently running and being played? FFXI is not finished yet, everyone who misses it that bad just go and play. It's that simple.
I thought that the fact that the devs are completely ignoring any FFXI related request would make you guys wake up and stop asking.
Temple of Ugg is an awesome looking zone for sure. Love the ancient jungle temple feel of it. Some of the rooms were awesome to behold.
I wonder if anyone would actually suggest Den of Rancor. I don't think I've ever met anyone who has fond memories of that place. The most poignant reaction I've ever read to it was when I was down there for a quest once and someone sent me a /tell asking, and I quote, "What are you doing in that s... hole?".
Good times.
Can you let people have a discussion they're interested in, take your own advice and "move on" if it doesn't interest you?
What is it with some people trying to shut others up when they're having a discussion they're not interested in.
The topic don't interest you or seems irrelevant... Then don't read it! No one's forcing you to read, or respond to it.
The level of intolerance on display by some around here is amazing.
Kiss FFXIV goodbye if you tell us to go play their successful MMORPG and continue to make them more money, since any business would see that FFXI is worth supporting than FFXIV is given that XIV is costing them loads of money as they aren't even getting box sales to stabilize the drainage - Whereas XI? It's getting Box, Steam and Monthly fee sales.
SE: FFXI...or FFXIV...which game should we focus on? I mean FFXI is making us millions upon millions..and FFXIV is costing us millions..choices. Choices. THE CHOICES!
They didn't ignore any FFXI related request as no one requested FFXI related stuff beyond the basics that XIV chose to utilize but ignore how XI did it. The Linkshell system? XI had basic controls which XIV could have expanded.Quote:

The Party Search system? Recruit is barely working compared to a flag system (like XI had) and a search system (like XI had). So telling people to make them more money is kind of a dead give away that you wouldn't want XIV to survive. As much as time and money they put into XIV, they aren't and won't be making any on it for a long long time and even then, it's skeptical at best if people will sub given how everyone immediately bad mouths XIV on sites.
Remember, this topic wasn't a "OMG MAKE THESE ZONES NOW" request topic.
It's Taboo to mention Square Enix's other MMORPG here.
thinking about this topic reminds me how much i really liked FFXI and the different locations. really takes me back lol
I'd love a remade Valkurn Dunes. Not because the environment or location was particularly interesting, but because so many 'firsts' came from the Dunes :P
Succesful MMO and FFXI don't match. It was sucessful at one point until WOW came out and FFXI turned into a niche. Trying to play FFXI you would see how deserted it got. So SE... between supporting a 10yrs old MMO that nobody wants to play anymore and which doesn't even make the top 10 of anyone's best mmo list... chose between that and supporting a brand new MMO which with some work can turn into a major contender in today's mmo market.
Choices choices....hmmm? right?
As per "it's taboo to mention SE's other mmo here" ... do we really need to discuss FFXI or any other SE game in FFXIV's official forums? Doesn't FFXI have it's own forums for that?
Should we discuss another thread SE will just skip over thinking "another damn "remake FFXI" thread" or should we give them the feedback they are waiting to see from us?
I love Sanctuary of Zi'tah, but I'd love to have a goblin/moblin area that has a similar music like these:
Moblin Menagerie ~ Movalpolos
Run Maggot, Run! ~ Moblin Maze Mongers
Yeah, no business that made over a billion on a product would consider that successful. None in the world.
Searcing my server, Phoenix, at the highest peak time results in 4k people. That was 2 large servers merging, which means the current servers are still a lot more populated than all of FFXIV. So if XI is deserted, what is XIV? Overpopulated?Quote:
Trying to play FFXI you would see how deserted it got
Hate on it all you want, XI is successful and XIV is not.
The fact a lot of you seem to want to commit suicide or kill anyone who mentions Square's other MMORPG, yeah it is pretty Taboo to mention it. It's ironic too, you'd think mentioning another MMO by the same company would be more accepting than spouting off the usual WoW/Rift/TERA/GW2/SWTOR is better and XIV needs to be like it.Quote:

The bad thing about these forums is ...
(and no the sentence does not finish with the words "me")
... there are way too many FFXI fanatic zealots and not enough general MMO consumers. I'm not sure which is worse, quite frankly, but I think I'd just like a balance which was not tipped entirely in favour of the awful game that was FFXI.
I wonder where you get those "official numbers" of FFXI's revenue and success... hmm....
FFXIV is not successful cuz they released an incomplete game which has issues they are trying to work out.
FFXI is a complete game that never caught on.... it never was popular and was never considered by anyone as one of the best mmos out there.. theres tons of games above it and SE should pick stuff from these games before they pick stuff from a game that is probably #15 on the top 10 mmo of all time.
EDIT: you know, if FFXI was such a great mmo and success, don't you think SE would have banked on that and made that FFXI remake you are all having an erection for? Yet they decided to make a game that is DIFFERENT from FFXI. Why stay away from such an absolute success? i wonder....
It's best to request that the artists use their unique ability to create new zones that will make FFXIV memorable as FFXI did with their unique zones.
Recreating a FFXI zone for FFXIV is just to see what the zone would look like in HD graphics. You are not challenging them creatively by doing this. It is a business to make video games, but many would agree that they'd like to feel challenged and create something inspiring while doing it.
Forget FFXI when playing FFXIV and remember it for what it was. It's time to make lasting memories with a new installment. Not morph it into a bubble that is your nostalgia.
What about several zones stitched together? It would be cool if a mission took you to Vana'diel for some reason, and you traveled through Ronfaure, Ranguemont Pass, Beaucadine Glacier and Xarcabard all as one cohesive zone with FFXIV production values.
as much as i love 11 and all the memory's i had there.
i want to experience new stuff with new zones new art etc.
You should surf the web more often, cause if you goto almost any major MMO gaming site or even general RPG site, and look at the ratings and recent MMO polling and you'll find XI still in the top 5 most popular MMOs. Or just read the comment for videos on FFXI, and you'll find that there are a plethora of gamers that will agree that XI is one of the best MMOs. {however, don't expect much from MMORPG, that place has always been horrible as is the community that only wants post-2004 clones}
You live in a FFXI-lovers bubble and need to get out more. Lots of people played it and didn't really like it. I meet lots of people who hate it immensely and have only negative things to say about it, and many who liked it only because it was their first real MMO experience.
I liked it for the atmosphere (music, graphics, and art) but it was just an everquest clone at heart and I didn't really like the gameplay. It wasn't ambitious or inventive. So far I've played FFXIV for almost as long and enjoyed myself more.

It's strange i don't see FFXI in any of these top 10 MMO of all time.... I fail to see where you saw FFXI as one of the best MMO? Did the website name have FFXI or FFXI FAN in it?
On the other hand, i did find FFXI on the top WORST mmo of all time.
http://news.mmosite.com/content/2008...010790,1.shtml
Maybe it is you who should browse the web more often and by that i mean other then FFXI fan sites.
So, clicking the "top WORST" link, I found this:
Xbox360 - Square Enix - Avg. Score = 69.348%
While the PC version of this game comes in at #7 for best MMORPG, the Xbox360 port turned out to be a dud and comes in at #6 of the worst.
Awesome credibility. What does any of this have to do with the OP topic anyway?
Not trolling at all. I didn't mention WOW a single time. Theres other great mmos out there who are considered as a success and have many time the population FFXI did and currently has. FFXI is not a successful game, im sorry to burst your bubble and no game would benefit from it.
ummmmm im just gonna list and not bother with the wall of text explaining each one.
Tavnazian Safehold (favorite place i lived there, much better than any of the shout capitals)
Lufaise Meadows
Xarcabard (but not beucedine glacier... but yes uleguerand range)
sky + sea are beautiful beyond imagination.
ifrits cauldron
the mire ^^
and im sure i missed a bunch but this is not a bad idea because i loved that scenery.
Still though they should only do this if they can make sense with it i certainly don't want to walk into sanctuary of zi'tah unless it makes sense. Which means they can't abuse it with an exhaustive list like this.
If they did it they'd probably have to do valkurm dunes just because the hell everyone experienced there.
If I were to continue the trend of naming off favorite zones I would say carpenter's landing.
Sorry to double post but i found this funny. below is what mmo site has to say. (theyre talking about the xbox version of the game and admit that the pc version is 7 on top best mmos lol)
* Preposterously long installation period, plus layers of unnecessary inconvenience (i did not know that this was relative to gameplay)
* Virtually nothing done to enhance the experience for the Xbox 360 (it's the same game dude)
* Slowly paced action and exploration caters almost exclusively to the hardcore (now im convinced mmosite doesn't know what an mmo is)
* Tough-to-swallow monthly fees required (12.95 is tough to swallow? How do you afford WoW which btw got great reviews from the same site, and again... do you know what an mmo is)
* Not a single unlockable achievement, unlike every other 360 game. (simply untrue lol the troll is strong in this site)
So there you have it in a a nutshell, mmosite and their affiliated critics are no more mmo gamers than they are credible writers rofl.
Achievements were added in an update.

lol i typed in top MMORPGs of all time into google, the first link http://www.the-top-tens.com/lists/to...orpg-games.asp Has FFXI at #5
hey look....another: http://mmorpg-service-review.toptenr...t-mmorpgs.html
lol that was just a quick google (a lot of free mmorpg crap poped in after that.
Also the games meta critic is pretty high http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/final-fantasy-xi (85 of 100)
it kept steady 100k+ numbers for what 9 years now and is barely slowing down. Other then WoW, there are VERY few MMOs that not only last that long (like not going F2P or stay online in general) but keep even a halfway respectable amount of subs. Was a Niche game?..sure, but MMOs ALL were pre-WoW. Its also an MMO that actually worked across multiple consoles, truely the first of its kind.
I'd like to see an area like Sky or Sea, a far away area you only have access to if you make it far enough in X storyline.
research isn't necessarily supposed to be easy but it's part of your job. Sorry but he lost credibility to me. If hes not willing to put forth the appropriate research then it's clear to me that he was just trying to draft something up right quick before clocking out. I need a critic that pours himself into his work otherwise why should i value your subjective input over mine?
The dunes.
