1.18 won't make it a much better game
Sorry, I stopped reading after the "writer" used the words "clunky" and "toon".
I would say this is a biased review because its released just before the big patches, they say they will review it again after the patches, but they never gave a timescale or said which patches, will it be after 1.18, after 1.20 or they cant be bothered and wait till they ruin the reputation of the game, when its improving and say "oh we were gonna review it again today" any review worth taking notice of would wait till they release atleast 1.18
Also with further reading the say auto attack and battle system overhaul is a rumour, therefore has lost ALL credability
I don't think this guy was trying to "ruin the reputation of the game" SE did that before anyone.
"Sorry, I stopped reading after the "writer" used the works "clunky" and "toon"." WORDS, Its a good job you didn't write it.
this review was a joke the writer couldnt even be arsed to do the minimal effort in research (auto attack is sure a rumor with that official vid duh)
its just the same shit from september parroted over again without menitioning ANY of the improvements since
plus releasing it FOUR days before the first of the big overhaul patches that the team worked their asses off for just screams sabotage
Nah, I think the review was timed badly, but in essence "fair".
Ten months after release, the game simply shouldn't be in the state it is.
And whether a patch comes out tomorrow or not simply doesn't matter at that point.
10 months is too long.
Like, the horrible retainer wards have become a little less horrible due to the tedious "search for red stars in a dungeon filled with voiceless twitching zombies" minigame introduced 5 months ago?Quote:

Uh oh! Typo police! Your bold typeface made your point so clear, too. I'd better back off, I'm dealing with a great typo-finder. People must think you are just a delight. Also, the phrase "It's a good job you didn't write it." makes zero sense.
Take your lame ARC and your fishbot and stay off my back.
Comparing Rift to FFXIV is like comparing a banana to my mom's vibrator. Can they both serve the same purpose? Sure. But obviously one was designed to be fully functional from the get go.
My point is, disturbing analogy aside, is that Rift can pump out 2 to 3 times the content because they were satisfied with the end product the put out. SE failed to do that, as we all know. Yoshi has said that to create anything brand new to the game, it takes about 6 months of development time from start to finish. This is why we are languishing in the state we are in. We can only hope that the next few months, the new team will start pumping out some of that content they have been promising.
Easy Raze. I don't want you to get all emotional and cut yourself. Also thanks for checking my profile, lame archer and fishbot nasty WORDS. ;)
Good thing you posted that, it's a good job I didn't cut myself.
What silly timing for this review, it's been 10 months and they choose right now before a huge patch to review? Not that I doubt it would have changed their opinion or score a metric ton.
It's just odd to write a review that will be obsolete in a mere 4 days.
Releasing an overly and hyperbolically negative review just before the release of a major patch that will usher further radical changes to be played out in less than two months is downright unprofessional (not that i've ever seen anything that i could define "professional" from MMORPG.com...). There isn't much more to say about it.
So much that it actually looks quite fishy.
Looking into the comments a few people have also seen through thier bias, its abvious the reviewer is brain dead or somthing
The review is dead on whether you like it or not...patch or no patch they put out a bad product to begin with. The reviewer even says that there is big patches on the way, but he had given FFXIV enough time which was about a year...that's long enough. This review is only an opinion as we all have opinions so I don't know why people would get bent out of shape over it. The game will truly begin on PS3 release after patch 1.20 until then it's all hype and waiting to see what direction this game goes. I can say that the original team should never work on an MMO again because this is the most boring game ever right now. Once leves are done I just log out...there is nothing more of interest...
False information in the review.
Stating things are horrible and unlikly to be fixed which are being changed in the next update.
Failing to state things which are not broken, UI is horrible... for keyboard/mouse, actually is adequate if you get away from that with a few tweaks. (It does say recommends gamepad on the box)
The review while highly highly accurate now, it is all but worthless in 4 days... and either they know it at mmorpg and are releasing it now to please thier sponcers (Bliz and trion feed them tons with advertising fees) or the review has not done any of his homework (most likly answer)... which means his review never had any credibility to begin with.
They did say that patches were coming, didnt say when and anything he mentioned in that will be in 1.18 he said was a rumour, like auto attack when it is official, while the review is right with what it says, alot was missed out and it was a bad time for the review which makes it useless
mmorpg.com game reviews? That's like listening to a nail salon tech give a critique on a fine art exhibit. No thanks. The last time I took anything those people had to say seriously was like....never.
Sorry but no. Reviews aren't opinion pieces, if they are decent reviews of course. Opinions in a reviews are welcome, but they shouldn't ever overpower facts.
The reviewer waited 10 months to review the game, which means that there's no dog running after him to bite him in the rear. Which makes a very convenient release of an hyperbole-filled review a few days after major changes very, very suspicious, and at the very least journalistically shameful.
You simply don't release a review that will be inaccurate in a few days. It's not done, or shouldn't be, especially when you know that.
And if you don't know, then maybe you shouldn't be a gaming journalist.
The score was fair, but the timing was horrible. It's not that this review comes too early--it would have been fine if it had been released much earlier. The fact is that now is the wrong time for a review like this however you slice it.
MMOs are somewhat unique in that it IS worthwhile to review one months or even years after release since they change over time. Such reviews communicate the current state of the game to potential buyers. As such, this review is at best useless and at worst misleading, as fundamental changes to core gameplay elements will begin to take place within days of its publication.
Whether or not patch 1.18 is a "success" is mostly irrelevant. What matters is that it is initiating large-scale changes that will take place over the course of several months. These are not simple "updates". What MMORPG has done is no different from reviewing the interior of a hotel days before major renovation work begins (and then referring to said renovation as a "rumor").
What they did was amateurish. I doubt that it was a deliberate attack, however. More likely it was an attempt to get their review out the door while it could still technically be considered "valid".
i know you guys are really fans, but realistically, reviewing an MMO 10 months after is fair, they even bothered to preface it saying that they know patches are coming but they are looking at what is there now. To be perfectly honest, even if they reviewed it after the patch most of the dudes criticisms would still stand, this isnt supposed to be a magic patch, its supposed to be step 1 in a series of steps that will alter the basics of the game. Its not going to add much polish to the game, in fact till 1.9 it will most likely be even rougher, which is fine.
When the game is all that it could be, then people will re review it most likely, but its a review, not a preiview, they cant review a game based on what may or may not happen in 3-6 months, and asking them to wait another 3-6 months to review a game that has been on the market for 10 months? I dont know, ever since this game came out, they have been saying soon, and give us time.
Eventually it reaches the point where people say ok, you have had enough time, what do you have to show, and when you are coming close to you 're anniversary, you can expect this. They basically have two months to show people something that makes them say this is worthwhile, and worth extending that grace period, if its not there by 12 months no you can expect to see a lot more similar reviews with similar results.
Nope. Either you review a MMORPG game right after release (given enough time to experience the game to write about it factually), or you review it AFTER some major patches that make that review relevant.
Reviewing it ten months later out of the blue and four days before a major patch (not to mention little before other major patches that will come between the next couple months) simply means that the review will be irrelevant and inaccurate in four days.
Knowingly doing that simply shows an enormous lack of integrity on the part of the writer and the publisher behind him, giving a base to suspicion about possible ulterior motives.
MMORPG journalism is a complex affair, and timing is everything, due to the fact that patches can change games radically (even if they are not "Miracle patches", which normally don't exist, what does exist is constant and continuated work in the right directluin). Poor timing makes for poor gaming journalism.
You can do it right, or do it wrong. There's no in-between when your work is based on judging someone else's work (which is indeed a delicate job). In this case, they did it wrong.
Publishing the review when they did was not an accident. I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees that. Reviews are worthless and are just catered to the games whose company gives the most hand outs to the website. MMORPG.com's reviews are worthless anyway even without that fact.
Never said you where invalid, I even mentioned FFXIV didn't deserve a good review, all I said is Rift isn't fun for everyone. If you like rift so much then go play it, more power to you. But bringing up Rift as a comparison to FFXIV is stupid and makes no sense. If rift had a bad launch and had to completely redisign the game mechanics then you could compare them, but it didnt so there is nothing to compare other then the fact that they are both MMORPGs
The mere fact they used the term rumor in their preface is a serious slap in the face of the current dev team working on this game. I am so mad about the wording of the article, I don't even think most of the review is false, most of it is very accurate however it's like they wrote this at release and just decide to publish it now and do not mention any of the changes since then. Yes these changes have been few and far in between but there's something about this 'review' that screams I wrote this 10 months ago, or I played 10 months and have no idea what the game is actually now and I know people are saying changes are coming but these are just 'rumors' by the community and not actually posted on the official site...
/sigh.. It's not a bad review because of the scores, it's a bad review because it's just so darned out dated and insulting for those of us anticipating the nearing patches.
So much text, so little topic. Seriously guys...
This^^ Too bad people are too ignorant or not analytical enough to get it. It saddens me too say it, but this review is even more unprofessional and more pathetic than most ign reviews LoL They can't even get their facts straight, plus using the word "rumor" on content that has been confirmed for quite a few months is laughable. It's all about the facts... and the fact is this review couldn't have been timed worse and is a huge unprofessional pile of ****!
1.18-1.20 has an INSANE amount of features already confirmed, plus tons that obviously haven't. (plus all the in-between patches for each major one) The game IS changing drastically, for better or worse and whether you like/accept it or not >.< To anyone saying otherwise it makes you sound like a total reject lol Miracle patch isn't the right wording for sure... but game changer sure is, and that's a fact!!!
lmao people are posting comments saying that because its 10 months ppl shouldnt bring the reviewers or sites integrity into question, must be ppl that blindly follow these biased reviews
I cant help myself, this looks like perfect planned kick of hate to the product when it tries to climb up. Its just kicks ffxiv title backward.
Ahah. MMORPG.com has their collective panties in a bunch about receiving criticism on this ill-advised review, it seems :D
Have fun checking the thread and see if I wrote anything that could be indentified as trolling :DQuote:

Not only they lack integrity in their review, but they also lack the nercessary integrity to accept the criticism coming with it.
The review got alot of valid points but it's like reading the posts here that used to spring up every other day about "what I think is wrong with 14." Overall, dickish move to release that now, if they waited this long they should've waited till like 1.20 when Yoshi's list will be completely added. That's when we know if the game will get ps3 release or get scrapped.
