Reaching pretty far aren't we?

The road and route you choose is the content. Just like people say that life is the journey. But if you want to be fixated on only the destination, especially in a game like this, then heck everything is in the way and everything is slowing you down. Heck the fastest way to get to your destination is get a hex editor and edit the bits your want to the values your want. All you need is root privileges on the server and bang you are done. Then what???
But for your own good and the good of others and the community as well, do NOT got flying off the handle and accusing people. Especially don't go pissing at the tanks even if you have some sort of half-baked reasons. And as a DPS definitely don't go pissing off the tanks or healers when you have the wrong reasons.
That is actually quite true. Although I've seen a few threads where players what to thank other players for a good run even after some unfortunate event had happened.
But for comparison, in another Ifrit HM run I've done. I simply asked, "who will do LB on the nails?" and a SMN or two or a BLM pipes up and said "ME ME MEEE!!" Those runs usually do great. When people communicate it works. When I am met with the silent treatment, I usually know it is not going to end well.
So it is not the fault of the content. It absolutely is the people. People is what makes the game more interesting and more fun. It the a game for the players, and the players have the power make this a great experience and great community.
I got one better.
-Doing HM Ifrit as scholar for my 4th relic.
-Other healer is a whitemage, that casted regen on the tank right as Ifrit noticed him, but before he grabbed aggro.
-As soon as Ifrit charges at him, he panics and casts medica 2 in reponse with Ifrit breathing fire(though only the tank was hit by it). He keeps spamming cures btw.
-before the tank is finally able to rip hate off the WHM, two DDs get MPK'd thanks to this guy.
-I checked his player stats, saw that he's brand new, and offered him advice and I told him that he shouldn't regen before pulls.
-"F**k you, eat a D**k" is the response I get.
Some people shouldn't be allowed to interact with others, even if it's not face to face.
You make me feel ashamed to be on the same server with you.
People aren't being douches because they have to do grinding, it's because they feel entitled and think that they're more important then everyone else. That is the reason they do it, and like it was said by others, IT IS NOT AN EXCUSE for acting the way they do. Where you came up with the thought of it being because of grinding is confusing, because if people are really so upset over grinding that they're being d-bags to others because of it, then they're brain damaged, because anyone that gets that upset over it, would have quit. No right minded person is going to sit there and punish themselves over and over to that point. Drop the "majority of the playerbase" crap, because unless you or anyone else that uses that line have interviewed enough of the playerbase to get valid results, then you don't know what the majority of the playbase likes or doesn't like.
And if you think the game is such a chore, and you're having no fun with it, then why are you even playing it? Grinding is part of the game, get over it and just be glad it's not anywhere near as bad as it could be. And FYI, no one is on a high horse, you're just pissed because everyone else refuses to agree with you. You're honestly being no better then the people this thread is directed at.
It's the elitist end game mentality.
People don't want to deal with bads. They want every run ever to be 100% perfect with a minimal 1 wipe. This mentality gets so out of hand that people can't give proper criticism without someone taking it offensively.
The worst part of that mentality is that overall it will only get worse over time it.
You have to keep in mind, OP, that for some people, this game is all that they have in their life. Their gear, their mounts, their time is worth everything to them.
Also, they are stupid. There's that too. "Hey, let's join DF groups and expect 100% flawless victory" Fucking herp de flerp.
It is not SEs fault that players do not have maturity of character, although I have complained without cease about the "cross-server" DF.
Using grind as an excuse to show what an asshat you are is just that, an excuse.
I also do not believe reporting people is getting anyone anywhere, SE isn't going to burn the overhead to track these people down sufficiently.
It is not the "content", it is the "players", the content just exacerbates the situation.
This is the same flawed ideology that says guns are dangerous simply because they "exist".
Welcome to the internet! A place where a lot of people hide behind their anonymity and say things to total strangers that they never would were they standing in front of them... Because they know you can't reach through your screen and smack their souls out of that waste of space they call their bodies.
I hate when a player jumps into a fight pretending to know it instead of saying that he/she/it is not experienced with it.
Better to have people groan at you at the beginning of the fight instead of being called out as a noob after you cause a wipe.
Seems to me that people are starving for people with patience and the ability to teach. Been running normal primals, Ifrit and Titan, while teaching myself certain tank rotations and how to really hold emnity. I have run into some really self-entitled healers but no DPS so far.
The amount of people new to instances I've run into is a pretty high number and about 9 out of 10 listen to imput. More times than none, they apologize like crazy because they are used to tanks yelling at them. That's pretty sad because maybe after two wipes and the whole mechanics explained they get it and the feeling of satisfaction is wonderful. Takes maybe 5 extra minutes and everyone is happy. Some folks need to take note of this...
On the other hand, some people are very nice. Went into HM hard last night to help a BRD friend get the kill he needed for his Atma book. I was SCH, and we also had our own WAR to tank. Up pops another BRD. We sigh to ourselves; no LB to deal with Amandine, meaning it could get hairy. New BRD says 'hi just to let know it's my first run.' So our WAR says 'that's fine, we'll take it slow so you can learn it. Thanks for telling us!' Nice smooth passage to first boss. Tank explains tactics (even tho he hates to type) bit of a scramble but we win. 2nd boss, so much moving, but we warn her that it's frantic and she copes really well, picks up adds, everything you could wish for. Tank explains that last boss is a DPS race, especially with the twin maid servants, and she does panic a bit then but we cheer her on and go for it. Everything goes beautifully to plan.
The point of my tale? We could have been dicks when she said she was new; I believe a lot of people are. She could have been a dick and not warned us, which would have probably meant at least one wipe (yes, Ash, I'm looking at you!) Thankfully, no one was a dick. I would have added her to FL as she played very well but different servers prevented that ...
The OP story is sad - I'll often jump into Ifrit HM for or Titan SM to help out people who I know wait forever for tanks (while I'm waiting for a FATE or just relaxing). I've had people yell at me for them dying in Ifrit, just like that drg, when it is plainly their fault. I'll point this out and say if people don't like it then I can always leave - Never gotten kicked. However, if the tank in question was shy or just not liking being demeaned, then causing him/her to leave just made that whole group re-queue...and how sucky is that?
Last night I was doing Titan SM for fun via DF and there was an obviously new WHM who died 2 times and we wiped. A drg in coil gear/relic voted to kick her after harassing her the whole fight -- I declined, but the other new person must've agreed b/c she got kicked for 'harassment' >.< Harassment is not being new and having to figure out a new fight...that was the first time I've left a fight I went into hoping to help. I tried to DF again in the hopes of getting the same WHM, but got a totally different group. Short fuses indeed :/
because to you this is your first time grouping with them, not the first time they have done the fight. imagine you had tried to do a fight 20+ times without success because people keep making the same mistakes. you would get frustrated too.
Ive met a lot of people in DF that are willing to teach/learn. Ive also some that think they are better then everyone else
And this particular scenario has nothing to do with elitism as some people mentioned in this thread. They don't even accept a constructive criticism, they will always feel they're under attack. I think they're all afraid all the way, and if people call them out or give them advice (implying that they're doing something wrong... how dare they...) they explode.
I remember when I was doing WP back then. I pulled the first pack of skellies back where the Wanderer cannot reach us. There was a summoner and I asked him to bring his Garuda-Egi with him, because it might be pulling the Wanderer. Ok, he didn't listen. The Wanderer saw us and started to attack the group while I was still tanking. We ran away and told the Summoner "Lol, that Garuda needs some extra training" Obviously as a joke, his answer was "You need training, noob". I just laughed because there was no point to start a discussion with him, about an issue that didn't matter anymore.
I try to be the person (usually not the only one) in a group who at least tries to help. There really are ALOT of helpful and friendly people in this game...If someone sees this as a personal attack or are just being a jerk because they can, I generally just let them be...they usually don't stick around too long. The best way to handle these...unique individuals is to just let them rage. Most times they are just looking to get an equal rise out of you so it's best to not give it to them. I will confess though I lose my cool a bit when I'm having a bad day and they cross paths with me acting in this manner.
