Like I said before, theres a reason they're called need and greed. Glamour does not justify "needing" gear. That's just greed. You know, the actual definition of it.

The back and forth you guys are having comes down to one thing: the mindset of the experienced player. Does s/he feel entitled to their right to need? Or do they have a different mindset that is more generous? Most of this community (particularly visible on the forum) follow the former rather than the latter. Arguing back and forth about who is being devalued more is pointless unless SE changes their need/greed system.
Actually until SE says that glamour isn't a need worthy reason for needing you are incorrect. If the system says they can need they can need for WHATEVER reason they want. You cannot say you know the definition of a system you did not design. You cannot say the needs of One is better than the needs of Another. Get off your high horse.
They shouldn't have to. Theres a thing out there that apparently not a lot of people have. Common Sense
Hit the daily limit :P
I'm saying how people are being toxic for that mentality they seem to have of "Only I matter, screw everyone else"
That's what I agree about, if they want it for glamour/another job, then ask, but looking through this topic, not a single person has said that. People are posting how everyone should hit need, even if they don't really need it.
It's not my view. It's the dictionary definition of it
The people who go "Oh hey, I need ____, but only for glamour. There's another guy in here who actually needs it, LOL screw him" THAT is throwing away the value of others. If I go into a dungeon and something drops and I have better gear, I do the nice thing and pass. That gear can help other people. This is a mmo, not a single player game, believe it or not, it's not all about you.
This daily post limit sucks >.> It's way too low
I'm going to go ahead and assume you have zero humor. I was not attacking their playstyle or anything, I was merely making a joke, since there's a whole different genre of games out there specifically for glamour/vanity.
If you really want something just ask the other player.
Yesterday I did Bryaflox's Longstop Story mode for my atma book and I was hoping to get some gear to my pugilist while doing it.
But when I joined the tank said he'd been farming this dungeon a couple of times now for the infantry set.
So we agreed that if the skirt dropped I would get it, and he would get the other pieces cause that was the one I wanted the most.
It was that simple, now none of us got what we wanted but it was a nice deal and both were happy about it
vanity is a good reason to do old content , u help newbies to pass that content and u can get rewarded . thats why u still have ppl doing stone vigil , brayflox normal ,ect
telling high geared ppl NO , not allowed to loot on that weapon in stone vigil ,or nop not allowed to loot battlemage robe because there is a low lvl that need it more than u is sure a good way to help lowbies
I think OP is being a sore loser :( I'd be all upset too if I lost the roll, but honestly it was a fair fight and you lost. You both did the fight, you both rolled, he won and that's why you are upset. The community is what you make it to be. I think XIV community is great and I ignore those that aren't because they are not worth remembering.
With the new echo buff on primals especially up to 50% on hard modes the need for ifrit/garuda weapon to beat titan is no longer there so I would just carry on and not bother whining about not winning the lot on that weapon because you can probably just duty finder garuda and titan and have a bunch of high levels get roulette'd in and carry you through. Even if they aren't massively high level a 50% echo buff after a few wipes will make up for everything. Then after titan you have the ilv80 relic and ifrits weapon only exists as vanity making your roll no better than the other drgs in the end.
Should of asked if you could have it first.
Some players like to collect stuff.
I am a bit torn on this one. I am a "main class" bard, ilvl91 (myth gear mostly). In a FC group we had 3 pieces drop of allagan for bards and I passed on them for the OFF CLASS of the other bard present was ilvl 70 in those slots. The key here is that it was a FREE COMPANY group. I passed to better us as a whole, because his off class bard benefits us.
People will pass for others, if you at the beginning state need, even in the duty finder. Yes, some won't because they see no reason to put a complete strangers wants/needs before their own. They will pass for others, if you are part of a party finder group and state need. To ASSUME he would not roll, when you didn't even ASK..in the duty finder.... and then complain that he didn't is just plain blow my mind crazy-talk. That's looking for a reason to be upset.
I suggest you communicate better with the groups you are in, or start a party finder or free company group who knows they are there to pass on anything you want/need. Good luck with getting your upgrades =D
Just a bit?
I am a firm believer that if "stat wise" a person actually needs it, I feel those people should have the right to have it first and foremost. Everything else is really on the backburner.
To be fair nobody in this game "needs" and Ifrit weapon. The ilvl 70 ones you can get from the marketboards are really cheap now and are better than Ifrit/Garuda weapons especially melded. So if I've been farming a primal all day for a glamour item then you can bet I'll be needing it when it drops no matter who else is in the party. It took me 24 attempts to get my BLM weapon from Ifrit back in the day, if I'd lost that lot (or passed) then it might have taken me another 24, I know some people have real horror stories about getting their drops from primals. My Garuda weapon was much worse, back then about 50% of the groups I had couldn't even beat it and the queue was 3 times as long as Ifrit.
Just because I have a higher geared character doesn't mean I have to spend an extra couple of days trying to get an item just so a newer player doesn't have to farm for an hour or two, or use some of the money they got from the main quest. That's not being selfish, it the DRG was doing the content just for the drop it's only fair he gets his chace to need it if it drops.
Communication would have helped here as well. OP assumed the other DRG wouldn't need it
Veteran Players are here to help New Players by preventing gear progression.
legit.
I'm sorry, but it might happen. It's better to assume that anyone on your class is going to lot then get your hopes up. If he took to the time to do the battle, then he deserves that chance to lot.
If you don't wanna run that chance, join an FC and ask for primal runs.
If you DF the Primal/Dungeon/Raid/anything don't expect anything from anyone in terms of loot, unless you state your intentions right of the bat. Of course this does not guarantee anything, but at least your not assuming that people are naturally considerate of others, they're not.
Personally, if I'm aching for a armor piece I would go through my FC, and suggest you do to if you can't nab it via DF, FC's tend to be invested in their peeps and will usually lend a hand.
In the end of the day loot is loot and if somebody contributed to the win, regardless of intentions (Vanity or actually need it) they are entitled to roll for it, system permitting.
I've been searching for my BRD boots in CT for weeks and keep on losing them to BRDS struting i90 boots soemtimes. It happens, just carry on.
