I'm sorry but the good .dat modders were far outweighed by the completely terrible god awful ones. Which is why I feel modding .dat files didnt take off like it could have.

stop really really stop for the love of god stop coming up with dumb idea the game is fine no need to make it rainbow like that fail game tera.
Not too sure whats so funny TERA is suffering from one of the main problems XIV is... lack of content, Korean sub's have been dropping off pretty fast.
Edit: Just like XIV, TERA is trying to correct that problem, XIV is doing it for PS3 launch and TERA is doing it for NA launch. TERA is currently suffering from what XIV did under the Tanaka regime, the Dev's are not taking any feedback from the the community thus the game is slowly failing.
TERA isn't on its death bed JUST yet, but it can't be denied it's doing pretty poorly -- This is why they're doing their best to make sure it does well in the west and Japan not because "we want to deliver the best game possible" but because it's for their sake mainly.
But rainbows are fabulous.
id take some of these ff-fanatics statements more seriously if they could write a reply w/o cursing thinking it makes them sound cool. Ive played all the FFs and the style per say was always over-the-top colorful in many cases and full of life. But then this game came and they thought it would be awesome to use 5 colors mostly earthen tones that create a drab and lifeless atmosphere to begin with. Im playin tera right now under a fellow co-workers account thats korean and id have to say stop saying it fails because in all honesty it looks and plays beautiful. there is more than 3 tree models and 2 bush models and they dont reuse landscape assets nearly as much; i'm sticking around w/ this game because i loved ff11 and played it for 9years non stop and hoping this game can rebound and provide me the same enjoyment but as months pass i grow less and less attached to it. And BTW FF13 was a rainbow........ ff14 is like watching tv in colorscope(do research if u dont know what that is).
dont always believe what people on the internet tell you the game has leaps and bounds more content than ff14 has right now. The korean mmo market in general never holds people for too long due to oversaturation in the market..... ie there next big mmos coming out one after another. And the game has loads of servers that are overpacked for the most part. Also pay to play mmos never hold as large an audience as f2p mmos do in the asian mmo market.
The do not believe everything you hear is true but it works both ways.
Everyone saying how Tera is the best thing ever on these forums... don't believe everything you hear.
People are not playing it anymore in Korea who once where (Fact)... where Aion holds over 1million subs easy since release over there(Fact). They have to have done something wrong to lose those subs. And from what I hear it is lack of content, Aim bots for the PvP, and Badly designed Political system.
The game is not as bad off as XIV I will agree to that, easily more content then XIV, but to deny it is not doing well is equally as foolish as those who believe XIV is doing great. Both games are in trouble atm, XIV a little more, both games have a chance to rebound with additional releases and fine tuning and more content.
A full server means nothing after a merge. XI has servers of 3000+ people at prime some nights, does not mean the game is doing great... Not at all. Same situation in Tera atm, a server merge gives a massive boost to the server population but a server merge is not a good sign.
I like having plainer colors so when you walk into places like Cassiopeia Hollow and see the glowing plant life or you look up at the crystal stalagmites in Mor Dhona they have that much more of an effect on you.
Why are the northern lights beautiful? Because the night sky doesn't usually glow. Why is an Oasis so magical? Because it's in the middle of a lifeless desert. These things stand out because they are uncommon or are placed against a much more plain backdrop. It's all about having contrast. FFXI had the most beautiful places tucked away in remote corners of the world, but the reason they were so wondrous to behold was they were contrasted against the rest of the world which looked very normal or even plain.
In games like Tera, this might just be personal taste, but nothing stands out to me. It's all so color soaked and otherworldly that the effect is lost in a sea of things competing to stand out.
Getting pretty sick of people like you on here. listen the game tera is good but it full of colors and the game itself look like s***. and what i meant by fine is the look of the game is great no need to add the rainbow.
All people are doing is messing up FFXIV for the rest of us by asking for the most dumbest thing then they quit and join other game and the people who really enjoy it are stuck with it at the end.
You guys need to stfu about the state of TERA because its doing fine, its not dropping fast, its lost about 80k and has a steady 100k active online, has since the release as stated by the most recent interview, and its stupid to even comment on it because its not like XIV is doing fine when it lost over half a million of its possible subscribers almost instantly. TERA has like 5 times more active playes than XIV and its out in 1 country....
anyway back onto the top.
Zanaku you dont like people wanting some colour? I dont like you not wanting some colour, so you can cry all you want but some of us want a nice looking game, so tough shit live with it lol.
Enhance the colors yourself with your video settings. You can candy apple red everything if you want. I have very vibrant colors. Maybe you should stop using your black and white TV from 1980.
You want color?Play this game
Bad joke aside...
I still find Eorzea dull and lifeless (except Coerthas and Mor Dhona...for some reason I love those zones). At first, I also taught that the color palette was the culprit here. But in my opinion, it's not. It's the lack of things in the world. I think it's the same thing that most people have been complaining since the beginning: copy/paste terrain and environments and the fact that we see the same monsters all over Eorzea just with different colors and sizes.
You do understand you posting in ffxiv forums right? and just maybe just maybe the reason everyone hating on TERA is becuase this is a ffxiv forums not TERA?
We can use more color but not TERA am sorry matter how much you like that game that all it have color the area itself does not look that great the sky look cartoonish like wow maybe that just me.
Top of that the game does look nice without the rainbow color of TERA so i don't really know wtf you talking and you need to take a chill pill not everyone want FFXIV to be like TERA. When they remake the maps maybe it look more like some area in ffxiv where the color really does look nice but no need to go as far as TERA it just wont fit in ffxiv.
I'm mostly concerned with Ul'dah. Gridania is nice and green but that's because it's a lattice of grids (GRIDania fersher) so they can throw as many trees as they want in without obstructing pathing. Thanalan/Ul'dah is SO BROWN. It has brown, gray, white, and blue-gray as the color palette. Compared to Rabanastre, it looks like it was built out of the corpses of cinderblocks. Also comparing it to Bastok is stupid because "HEY THIS OTHER CITY IN A DIFFERENT GAME WAS ALSO DULL AND LIFELESS IN TERMS OF COLOR" means nothing but they're both dull and lifeless..
What do I want to see in Ul'dah? More potted plants, maybe an oasis somewhere near it. I live in a desert myself and it's not nearly as muted as Ul'dah is, never has been. Even the clothes on people in Ul'dah is boring...nobody wears a vibrant color, it's all white/grey/brown.
Compared to, say....traditional Navajo woven blankets.
If this is the type of coloring more people want then i agree i love to have that ul'dah is really brown and more color would be nice but then again it's a desert and have sand storm and that how it should look like.
I hoping the map remake would add coloring but not like tera.
I live in Las Vegas, contrary to what people believe it more than lights and flashy crap. Where I live its dusty, deserty, and brown, its a lot like Uldah. I think they tried to appeal to the western concept of a desert or actually a more American west coast concept. I like the Thanalan region, but shouldn't Uldah be more of a Las Vegas Strip type hub in some areas? Make the pug guild more flashy if they gamble they're. The "whores" or "strippers" w/e they are in the miners guild are not even that flashy, they should of been show girl types. :/
Ya sorry no am not immature that was the truth if you mean color as more color but not the point as tera then i agree with you. But if you want it as colorful as Tera then i don't agree with that it wont fit with Final fantasy XIV at all.
That all am saying no need to get rude...
If you want more color then i would say wait for that game there really no need for it in FFXIV. Yes more color but not too the point that look like Tera that way over the top for how good FFXIV look like.
If you read my posts you'd agree with me, just like you said then.
So yes you are immature.
Not even for just that, you're just immature for the fact you cant handle other people have different taste or like different things than you, and because of this you tell them that they are wrong. You cant be wrong for having a specific liking or opinion or taste.
All am saying it wont fit with FFXIV adding more color yes but that far like that game no thanks it wont fit very good with FFXIV. that not being immature that just saying what i think about FFXIV vs that game. Stop using immature beause i can say the same thing about you. So i'll end this here seeing how there no end and you just going to go on and on.
FFXIV wont fit with that type of coloring that all i said from start to end
I don't mind other people like am just saying it wont fit with ffxiv.
If they add that to ffxiv then oh well to bad then for me and lot's of people who dislike it.
If they don't then i guess the other side lose also too bad for them also ;;
it's a lose / win not a win win not if the new maps bring more color but not as far to the point that both party can agree which this is what am trying to get at. What can't we stay with what we have but add more color so both can agree? no need to fight over a dumb topic as coloring in the world.
Just because i dislike that game and say it fail it just how i thin about that game noting more noting less. We could use some coloring but not that far don't you agree? or you want as much as that game? i just think it wont fit with FFXIV that all.
It will fit if you make it fit, like they have in all previous FF's except 11 and 14.
Take FF12 for example, it looks great, its colourful and would fit XIV perfectly.
Also take Mor Dhona for example lol its one weather affect is full on saturated purple, and you think stuff in TERA doesnt fit? hmmm....
I'm talking about how bright the colors are not the color Them-self i do agree i like how FF12 colors are that wont be that bad. Mor Dhona have great color also if they can make the coloring like that for the rest of the world then i agree. But for Tera am talking about how bight the color are that all i'm saying about it.
i think we was getting lost on the type of coloring lol the example of FF12 is a good one that would be the some good coloring for ffxiv and Mor dhona also have good color maybe the map remix would fix the issue i just don't like how bight the color are in tera for some of the areas.
Well you most likely get a lot of TERA's brightness due to Unreal Engine, has insane brightness on a lot of its game, but that is just the style, people not asking for a copy of it so dont presume it, especially when people have already shown examples of other games including 10 and 12 which I mentioned.
I also said I wouldnt like TERA's insanity, i even posted a video, it looks silly, like blue grass n stuff like the HUE got changed? Silly.
But take a look around Uldah, there are hardly any wild life, very little plant life compared to the central foundtain. Also all the cloth and covers over the shops are all brown, why some of not navy or bit orange much like FF12?
I think what people dont like is how if you run around Uldah 95% of it is just brown brick, nothing else. Limsa is just gray rocks and some wood. Gridania is just green, some wood. While they fit what is realistic this is a fantasy game, not real life and has no creativity imo.
Do you remember this?
http://www.gamerdna.com/uimage/SUp1y.../ffxiv-art.jpg
Look at all the life around, where is any places in XIV like that?
Ok then i guess i just got lost on what you mean yes i agree i like more wild life and more color but not so far it look like a rainbow lol.
Maybe the new maps would fit this issue and copy/paste I like something like FFXI it had lot of coloring but that was due to each part of the game having zone. I wonder how they can make 1 zone and each part look different without making it look weird when it change to one to other other games can do it but this is SE i just hope they can do it right.
I really like to see more in one zone then just full brown, green lol
Akihiko Yoshida's used to working with organic colors, which is why we don't see more flamboyant choices.
Some of the examples, like above, aren't exactly supporting people's argument about the color scheme. Looking at that photo alone, I see the same colors that others have issues with. That photo, as well as the others, are more aesthetically pleasing simply because there are more objects and information within the space. I think people are starting to blend design and color together.
The color themes are fine... and if they saturated Mor'Dhona with pink we would all start having seizures
