Or you know, this could be an entirely new race concept not seen in any other Final Fantasy game? I think it's WAY too early to rule this out just yet.

Unlikely, because then it would be x race found from some other MMORPG or offline RPG series which means it's not "new" at all because FF has a few reptilian races and even a draconian race, so why wouldn't they just use them?

When FFXI came out, it featured three races never before seen in FFXI lore: Galka, Tarutaru, and Mithra (though it could be argued that there's a resemblence between Tarutaru and other "little people" races in FFXI lore). I don't count Hume or Elvaan, as they're basically just a rename of humans and elves, found in nearly all other FF games.

I was disappointed to learn that FFXIV was just rehashing the FFXI races, when I was hoping they'd be featuring something new. They have a chance to do this now. Yugiri MIGHT represent a known FF race, or she might be something totally new. It's too soon to tell, but I kind of hope for the latter.

I'm gonna say dragon race, like the Gria, but without wings. It would explain the hood, (after all, who's to say Ishgarde and it's ongoing holy war against everything and anything scaly, wouldn't add her to the list of things needing to be killed?), second, she's from the far east, so the dragon motif seem to work well. Now I'm curious to what she looks like under the hood.

In the truth, she is a half dragon!1!!

At first time I thought she had horns, but in the cutscenes u can see that moves, for me seems more like big ears.

So, Yugiri :

• she has a fairly long tail that could be reptilian, or maybe rat-like,
• her feet's shape is human-like (you can tell through the boots),
• her face's makeup is human-like, it's easy to see in closeups when she speaks,
• the things on her head move around so they're probably ears.

I can't think of a race will all these traits in the FF multiverse, so I'm still leaning toward Viera with a funny tail. This would also work quite well with her voice, at least in the Japanese dub. It's the same kind of deeper, calm voice they've always given to Vieras.

however, she did say something that make me wonder. she did say: "she hide herself, because her race is often misunderstood."
viera will look nice and all, then they are out.
repitlian because of the tail... maybe, but how explain the base of the tail.
mouse type? no, the tail of a mouse is not like this.
a gria without wing? maybe can be a good idea, but why hide her face, grias face are human like, same why hide her hand?

It's not a Viera/Bangaa/Gria/Burmecian in the same way that FFXIV doesn't have Galka/Mithra/Tarutaru/Hume/Elvaan.

If she hides her face out of fear, I'm gonna assume her race is far closer to the Beast tribes in their appearance.

Which, to me, is pretty awesome.

But, we are forgetting that she may not be based off of a playable race in terms of what we are used to. If they are supposed to be more "beastly" in appearance, then we need to look at some monsters that have appeared in the past as well.

I'm gonna just toss out that the first expansion is about Lunarians~

I know people are dead set on those being horns on her head given the scale tail...however, doing some additional quests today I noticed they wobble when she moved her head quickly, ever so slightly. If they were horns one would think they be more fixed and stable. The fact that they moved means its a slight oversight on the head wear, or they are indeed long ears.

Never wobbled when I watched her, and if they are supposed to be ears then they are too thick. walk around her those things are fully conical

perhaps its a quiqirin race? with those ears.. but the mouth shape is missing

Definitely not a Viera.

The tail looks braided. Maybe a cultural thing, maybe a bunny, maybe a lizard, idk. The thing is in full light it looks almost pleated/braided, but in the dark, or sitting it looks over layed like scales, I could just be tired.

GUYS why every is missing the thing at the beging of tail?remainds me feather.Actually it is feather after all but i might be wrong...However this is not viera or any other race we have seen in other ff series....This is completely new beast tribe race...Why beast tribe? Well I won't spoil it so ppl who already done main quest might understand what exacly i mean :P

further analysis :
1. similar tail shape although longer and the tail's base with the ass a bit upper to the torso
2. ears might be horns
3. feet unidentifiable, might be hoofs or clawed or hominid shaped (possibly hominid shaped because no hoofs or clawed feet can wear that full boots)
4. odd oval head shape, possibly odd neck shape too (might be very slender long neck)
5. a miqote slouch back posture, might be lacking a real butt
6. a miqote like boobs
7. either a Draenei inspired race or a mutant Miqote with furless mangy tail

Placing all my chips on the table here, I will say shes a Dravanian, and a hybrid-dragon one at that. Tail fits the bill, as to her "ears" being Horns of sort. Given we are venturing further into Ishgard, which is the land of the dragons, it just seems to all fit.

Yep, betting Gria as well even if it's obviousy a Miqote model with Miqote animations for now.

Since I'm sick and tired of you all making up rumors and fighting over what it is, I'm just going to let the cat out of the bag.

It's an entirely new race that I in collaboration with Yoshida have been working on called "Action". The Action (pronounced like Action, as in ACTION PACKED) is kind of like a snake meets a bear meets a cyborg meets an owl that had a child with Macho Man Randy Savage, and combines all the sex appeal that would come with being the embodiment of Action its self. The Action language is pretty simple, and focuses primarily on its loud volume and explicit intensity.

The Actions are known for their fondness of flying elbow drops, punching, kicking, punch-kicking, backflips, throwing trees, and getting into wrestling matches with bears. The Actions are also time travelers, capable of actually punching through the time space continuum, or intimidating time its self to move forward or backwards.

They don't have a ruler per say, but they all follow a strict code known as The Action Code, which is a 265,000 page volume which has strict guide lines on what to do during any given situation, how ever it can be broken down into three simple steps to follow

You must be embracing the spirit of Action at all times, every time
The only proper greeting is swift punching until both parties are bleeding profusely
If one party spills blood on another party, the offended party has the right to kick the offenders to death.

The new race will also introduce a new class known as The Brawler; which will use a variety of suplexes, grapples, and other heroic feats to do battle.

Yea.. not ears. Horns. Also the tail has spikes on it near the base (raised scales), definitely gonna be a cool looking reptilian.

So we're getting a reptile race and a Ninja class instead of Vierra and Muskateer? I love the game but this is a little disappointing and a lot less exciting.
