Back to the subject, yeah, I'm kinda sad that we won't be able to use Odin's armor for the foreseeable future.

To clear confusion (or at least, that's how I understand it will work)

Once a glamour prism has copied the look of some other gear, you can now destroy (or store) the gear in question -- the prism now contains the "look" of that gear.

You can equip that glamour prism to change the look of your currently equipped gear. Simply removing the prism will display your true armor. The prism goes into a 2nd "Body" slot or whatever.

You don't actually "change" your armour into anything, and the prism isn't "used" (as in consumed) when you display it - it's simply equipped.

I wonder if you can select to display "not-equiped" look as well - As in overwrite your earrings with no equip to hide them.
But seriously guys, we knew that the system would be full with restrictions and overcomplicated things.

I doubt you'll be able to make a slot look "empty". Your best bet is to find the least annoying equipment for that slot.

There's a few low level earrings which aren't too awful for midlander males... I know my FC leader is constantly whining that all earrings look dumb on his character.

Being a cat, I tend to enjoy all earrings equally, from the subtle ones all the way to Titan EX gaudy ones.

But you do have to get new prisms if you want a different outfit correct? If I were to prism my AF gear, I would need an entirely new prism to make prism my Coliseum gear.

Also I used "prism" way to much in this post.

it would be like dyes. You buy the prisms from the crafters and do the rest yourself.

But it seem that the prisms have different grades like materia and dark matter. The level 50 prisms on the screenshots are G4 and the colliseum prism is G3

Depends. As far as I understand, if you want your character to look like you're wearing, let's say, one pair of level 8 kecks and one level 8 shirt, you only need 2 level 10 prisms. Copy these over, and then you have the "look" saved, and can overwrite any gear body/legs above level 8 to look like them.

If you want to change your AF body or coliseum body into that shirt, just wear the prism. If you want to make your AF look like a chainmail, though, you'll need another prism.

At least, that's my understanding of it.

One prism = 1 "look".

You could overwrite 8 different job's outfits with the same prism.

Oh without a doubt. Quickly and ruthlessly. But, provided the prisms are cheap enough to make, they could still sell to those that don't craft.

Good question. I don't have sources, so I'm guessing either old interviews or just people discussing how it ought to work. Guess that means we'll need some kind of Terebinth to restore our old looks?

I took it to mean that it is consumed by assigning the image. In that regard that prism would always have that image copied to it. I could then "equip" that image numerous times, as I level up. This is speculation, of course, but I am hoping that is the case.

Since you can store the item in your retainer after copying it to a prism, it is likely that you don't actually need to keep the gear. Since the system already doesn't know if I have something on my retainer when I go to lot on a new one, it stands to reason that the glamour system will work the same way.

If I can copy a look to a prism, and if I can re-equip that prism at a later time without needing to recopy, then I should only have to keep a stash of prisms, and be able to get rid of any gear that I have already copied to a prism.

It looks more like a re-skinning system, where the prism is a reagent used up when applying Look B to Item A.

On another note: This system is seriously 99% useless to me with the restrictions currently in place. For one, as a DoM job, my options for vanity are next to none - not only can I not use leather or plate stuff, but I also can't use gears specifically labeled SMN, SCH, or BLM. And for another, I can't use high level gear that I already have to glamour onto lower level classes I may be leveling. Both of these restrictions are flat out nonsensical.

The story of this game; from my personal experience.

To bad they don't do it like dcuo. If any of you played that? That style system was awesome. Once you had a price of gear and equipped it, it saved it's image and you could in equip it store it set it whatever, and it was always in your style selection. Then you just went into the style screen, scrolled through all you head feet hands body styles you had gained and chose what you want when you want. And they had weapon styles to, same way, any weapon equipped once, you could select whatever style you had for those.

to be blunt, Tanks have the more freedom than DoW, while those have more freedom than Casters/Healers.
If an item has a specific class only, it's pretty much only for that class ( like AF gear )

Correct, your Palladin can only glamour gear that is usable by a Palladin, no whitemage AF for you.

I was just making an example. Though I can still make some nice looks. That does sucks, cause the monk ct top would look good with the smn AF shoe

Is there any source confirming this to be the case? Everything I have seen regarding retainers is the venturing system. Would be nice to have more space, especially if we are going to be sending them on "gathering" missions.

I have a dated chainmail for all classes still in my armory chest

I'm really bothered that casters/healers are going to have a much more limited use of this system. It seems unfair. Most cloth gear (the caster stuff) is for "all classes" so a tank could still use it for vanity, but casters can't use plate, leather, etc since they can't normally equip it. This seems very 1-sided and I hope they change all the cloth gear to "DoM only" to even it out a bit.

No. They should do the opposite and open up all gear to everyone.

Also, they need to let us glamour higher level gear onto lower level characters. If I've earned it, then I should be able to use it. These two, simple changes would make the system a million times better.

I have high doubts they are gonna change it. I mean, WoW didn't change it with their transmog system, I have little doubt they will change things like that here. Sucks but that's life.

Perhaps the new recipes crafters will get will be more specific.

That would work as well, and I agree 100%. Anything to even the odds a bit. Right now the system favors tanks since they have access to 90% of the gear in-game (outside of special circumstances, like AF and such). If anything, if SE really wants it so classes can't wear things that normally wouldn't be "class appropriate" anyway, they would need to redesign all existing gear to be like what you see from end-game drops (where drops can be equipped by related classes/jobs but no one else). This would make the system more limited, so not ideal, but at least it would be more fair in the long run.

I have spent far more than two days on low level alts and alternate classes.

Less restriction is a good thing; there's no reason to be against this.

Looks like you're gonna use an item to copy the stats of an item onto another. It'll have its own window and function like dyes. There will most likely be an item to remove the copied stats too.
