I gotta be honest, I think I would rather them spend time making butts bigger like all those threads in general discussion were asking for than make the game more inviting to *shudder* ... Mac users.

From the Feb 20 2014 GameWatch interview with Yoshi-P translation by Reinheart (as ever, it's greatly appreciated):
Edit: Oh, just to clarify the above and an earlier post: There's no "Apple approval" process required for Mac software. There are many distribution systems other than Apple's Mac App Store. Apple has no involvement with those (no restrictions, no revenue sharing, etc). Steam is one, and most online Mac stores offer downloads directly. Plus with MMOs, most of the game is downloaded by the launcher directly from SE anyway (just like with the Windows version).Quote:
GW: Personally I was curious about the Mac version from today’s presentation. I believe this was the first time you mentioned about the Mac version. How much can we expect for that happening?
Y: Right now it’s still at a level where I’m joking about it to the development team (laugh).
GW: You’re saying that now, but in actual you guys are secretly working on it?
Y: No (laugh)
GW: You sure?
Y: Within the development team there are talks like “Why aren’t we going to do Xbox One?”. Just like how we said that as long as Xbox doesn’t change their closed network policy it’s going to be hard. It’s same here, Mac’s demands are pretty big, right now I’m just mumbling to myself “I want Mac version”, that’s about it for now (laugh).
GW: I would like to see it happen, but doesn’t look like it’s something that’s going to happen this year.
Y: That’s not possible. Sadly, we don’t have any margin in the current development line.
Funny that makes you sad, because it's "a bit" more based on facts (actually, only the Reinheart's translation part, because the part he says Apple makes no restrictions is hilarious) than the post you chose as truth as in "This guy gets it".
Hahaha I love this thread, Mac users buy an overpriced PC because it looks pretty and they don't want to use Windows, then end up having to pay extra to put windows on said overpriced PC. Enjoy spending all your money apple users :P
I would love for there to be a native Mac client for this game, I think it will happen eventually, but I would also like to see the game on as many platforms as possible. Xbox One would be a great start. And while it might be hopeless, I got to try. http://www.change.org/petitions/micr...shared-servers
I never said anything was fiction. The part I'm sad about is a quote about the development team scoffing off the idea of extending support.
Also, what's non-factual about what I quoted?
You know there are many MANY other reasons people buy a different operating system besides "it looks pretty..."
Really? Did this contribute anything to the discussion? Was it really necessary to insult someone just to make yourself feel better? Also as Bossycow said people who buy macs do so for reasons other than, "Hey it looks cool" some of us have industry standards to deal with.
STO released a mac client late last years that was nothing but a formally packaged wine client. It is still in beta but works quite well. I don't see why they can't do this with FF14. .
It will never be on Xbox One because MS will not allow it. They require all Xbox games to have their own separate servers walled off from other platforms. Obviously you can see how this might be a problem for an MMO. So blame MS for no FFXIV on Xbone, not SE. Alternatively you can blame yourself or God.
Also if FFXIV was on Xbone you would have to pay for Xbox Live Gold to pay for your FFXIV sub because literally everything online is paywalled behind Gold on Xbox. You can play games with separate subs for free on PSN.
ESO is already a bad game but it will be even worse on Xbone where you have to pay for Gold to pay for your ESO sub so you can be on servers which will be dead in a week because they are only for Xbone players, but PC and PS4 players will share servers and have a much higher population.
If developers go through Apple's App Stores, there are rules, definitely, and an approval process, and Apple takes a percentage (just like stores like Best Buy, Amazon and Steam do), but none of this would keep most games out.
But Mac software doesn't have to use the Apple store. MMOs like WoW and probably TESO sell their stuff separately. The reason most games do go through the app store is they already follow all the rules and the store has a huge customer base. But what I said above is true. If devs don't use the App store, Apple gets no say and no cut.
I didn't see it as scoffing. Yoshi-P explicitly says, even during the presentation, that he personally wants a Mac version (and also mentioned it over a year ago). I took the "joking" and "laugh" to be that he knows their schedule & resources don't allow time for it, yet he keeps mentioning his wish to the team.
As for "Mac's demands", it could mean amount of resources and technical requirements. We don't know what that involves. Like elsewhere for what sounds like a simple thing, he says their cost to allow storing users' hotbar & macro settings on the server "will require a couple of millions in investment".
Late edit: That "millions" is in yen. That would probably translate to "over US$20,000", so not "cheap" but not as outrageously expensive as it initially sounded. :)
You shouldn't make things up to further your console bashing of, omg one is better then the other. PS4 is just as closed off as the Xbox One in ESO.
Q: Will PS4 users be on the same severs as PC users? — @Adzaofoz
A: PS4 users will have their own dedicated ESO megaservers (European and North American). PC and Mac users will not be on the PS4 megaservers. This is good news for PS4 players as they won’t have to worry about contending with higher-level PC players when ESO launches on PS4.
Haha, it contributed to the thread by bumping it in the very least, although I'm not sure that will help your cause in the long run. I don't recall insulting anybody, just remarking on the fact that apple products are incredibly overpriced, and you're right, some people buy them for their jobs regardless of the fact that almost all the software comes out on Windows anyways. I don't regret my remarks to be honest and in the long run I do hope they release a Mac client, believe it or not. That doesn't change the fact that I think it's funny to see people who bought Macs in a game forum complaining, sorry if that offends you.
Fun Fact:
Apple charges developers who wish to update/patch their programs on the App Store. The devs have to PAY APPLE to fix their own software. It gets better. If Apple deems the patch to be in violation of their ToS, they reserve the right to refuse the update while not offering reimbursement to the dev. You're essentially paying an absurd amount for an Apple employee to look at your patch so he can tell you if it's up to their standards or not.
My cause? I play on a Homebrewed PC actually, but I thank you for your assumptions. Honestly the Argumentum ad antiquitatem when it comes to gaming is contrite at this point. Why anyone would enjoy seeing fellow games suffer or unable to enjoy games is beyond me.
You also say you didn't mean to offend anyone, yet in the same breath say you are enjoying the languishing of others. I suppose I should thank you for the bump, though more mature and less self-centric method would have been better. It is this kind of behavior that makes the forums... well what they are. Don't contribute to the trash please.
OpenGL is available on Mac and you can code in c++, LUA, ... on Mac, but I would suspect the game engine they are using does not support Mac OS which would mean they would either need to get the company who makes their engine to program a Mac version, or code their own. = not going to happen. :)
and in regards to the app store, you don't have to distribute using the app store it is a choice not a requirement so patching costing money isn't the reason. So I am going to have to give ArkhamNative the win on that one
Well I would assume the cause of this thread is to promote the Mac client, and considering you're getting so defensive over a little bit of laughter and a comment about people paying too much money for Mac, that you are probably part of that cause or at least care about it. If you're not and you don't then go ahead and substitute "your" for "this thread's".
As for the second part, I mean if you can say you've never laughed at the sight of somebody falling down then I won't call you a hypocrite but the fact is, people find humor in the suffering (minor/non-threatening) of others and guess what, that's not a new concept :P.
Now go back to nitpicking my post so that you can find something else you find offensive, I only have a couple more work hours left.
Haha I can appreciate the edit if you can appreciate the bump, my friend. Good luck with your endeavors.
What's a MAC ?
From another Feb 20 2014 interview with Yoshi-P, this time on Famitsu's site, translation by Reinheart (as ever, it's greatly appreciated):
I'm really happy to see these articles address the issue directly. SE's presentation and these direct quotes from Yoshi-P came within days of the start of this thread.Quote:
F: OK, how about releasing for the Mac version?
Y: For the OS itself it’s gaining popularity, as well as other MMO makers are starting to look into Mac version as well, so we also are talking with staffs about starting to look into this.
bump, sort of. But really, I'm tired of seeing the silly windows people saying that macs are a waste of time, and yet we live in a world where we have different machines for different purposes and functions. It's just silly to keep feeding the fat hog food while the newborn needs more nourishment. Just saying...

No ancient magics please.
I don't think Mac's suck, but I do think that there is very little that's not downhill from here on out.
What with Jobs dying and all, it kinda feels like any "revolutionary" changes are impossible now.
Don't get me wrong!
Apple will still go for a long time and possibly even upgrade their products, but the "new, longer, thinner iphone" thing right after his death and whatnot, kinda cements some things for me.
Everyone has an opinion, this is mine.
