I <3 Awareness. Enemy critical attacks happen with some frequency, or maybe I just notice them more since I started using Awareness regularly. It's not super amazing or anything, but it is one of those lesser CDs (like Foresight and Featherfoot) that you can rotate throughout a battle. It's not as good on Warrior due to shorter duration, that doesn't stop me from using it though. I'd take Awareness (and/or another minor mitigation CD) over 10 more weaponskills.
I'd like to see Warrior really do more with active mitigation. I'd like to see inner beast be shorter in duration, but mitigate more and be up more often, then I would feel that they were just perfect.
Something like, mitigate 30pct, last for 3 seconds, take 3 of 5 stacks, so a quick combo will let it be up again, before you have to go through all 5 stacks again.
No.. It's really find the way it is. Off GCD would be the best thing for IB, however, I have some reservations on the animation delay that occurs with other skills, so I'm not really 100% for oGCD.
Everything is tuned around the 20 second time frame for the current IB, changing durations/stacks required, etc would really throw that off.
If nothign else, I see no reason why we should have to blow the entire stack to do mitigation. Our major defensive buff only lasts a few seconds and we can only do it again after what, 8 other GCDs? It's a tough position to put a class in, especially for someone learning new content.
As tanks, we know these mobs typically do the same thing, every time in each phase, repeatedly until dead. Most of this game is just memorization of repeated mechanics and I just feel that WAR would be a lot more friendly if we didn't have to blow all of our stacks for our mitigation.
I say 3 of 5 stacks for IB use would be perfect. It still leaves us in a position where we can't hit IB again, right away, but we could easily use it again if we needed to with 2 hits. If our timing was off or we guessed wrong and you had to pop it again then you still are back to where we are now, where you have to burn through all those GCDs to get your stacks back.
If you break this down in to a time table, comparing equal incoming damage between PLD and WAR over a given number of GCDs (I used 90 seconds worth), IB is actually up for more time than Rampart without even using Infuriate. 6 second window is short enough, I'd like to see anyone reliably execute a 3 sec window IB to mountain buster or rotoswipe. 6 seconds at least covers 2 auto attacks, 3 sec would barely cover one. When I get some time I'll do a table for 30% at 3 stacks, but it sounds initially like that's just going to be too much mitigation (to remain balanced), even if it's only 3 sec.
they really need to reduce provoke cd time
That is fixed. The problem I have with Awareness is that monsters in coil can't even crit. Extreme primals can crit, but their specials don't (if they do I've never been hit by one). Monster crit rates are relatively low, so even against monsters that can crit, it's a really really bad cooldown and eats up a trait slot on a class that already has too many cooldowns and situational buttons. Another WS and an improved Shield Swipe could give paladin something resembling a real rotation and more choices in combat.
Except that PLD gets Sword Oath at level 30 and uses the extra damage from it as a pseudo-increased enmity while waiting for Shield Oath with it's legitimate increased enmity at 40. It would also require PLD to blow a GCD swapping between the two any time they wanted to go from high to low enmity. Modifying a single relatively useless skill (i.e. alertness or shield swipe) and turning it into a t3 combo attack for Riot Blade doesn't really require all that much development effort (really just requires a new animation because giving it numbers would be super simple since it would just need to match RoH combo roughly) and doesn't create as many problems with the leveling process (Shield Swipe is 30 and Alertness is 34, which is only slightly earlier than when the other melee classes get their second t3 combos).
Titan crits the crap out of me.. I thought I had seen some crits from Cads but maybe not.. I remember reading elsewhere on here (before I had even sniffed coil) that those mobs can't crit.
Edit: Been watching some clips for Turn 5 (learning) and the snakes have crit a few times. You guys sure about coil = no crit?
