I expect disappointment when it comes to these silly events. That's precisely the reason why I avoid them all together. I avoid the disappointment, and don't feel the need to make threads like these.

Sounds very time consuming for a limited seasonal event.
Then you'd have plenty of people complaining about it takes too long to get the keys and how they can't form parties or win the fight. Even, they complain about how troublesome it is for 'just a mount'.
No thank you.
As for the Valentione event being disappointing, it seems its a matter of taste. Personally, I found it quite enchanting.
1) The little piece of story with Yellow Moon was hilarious, seeing all the sick followers amassing in front of the weavers guild.
2) The one involving Nemoh was quite nice as I remember interacting with that NPC once before, a long time before the event. At that time, she was waiting for someone and now we got to know more about that particular NPC. It brings a more emotional touch to the world.
3) As for the one in Limsa, I saw it coming from the start. Still, it allowed to see another side of the leader of the Sanguine Sirens.
The events are nice and sweet. They need to be simpler and shorter due to the limited time aspect of them.
What you described is more of permanent game content.
In that case, I wouldn't object.
They need to do an event where the ppl that hate that event can throw or make it harder for ppl that enjoy the event complete it. Now that had be fun.
I thought this was one of the better ones personally. Clearly more effort went into this one than say the Christmas event.
You mean to say you wanted limited time only event where an FC can win, and then queue up with other parties and sabotage their attempts so that they remain special with their cool holiday (insert reward here) they earned?! Well, what am I saying. This is the internet in 2014, -no one- would do annnnything like that.
Feast of the Swords, where you had to chase down an enemy, time your attacks and defense to avoid damage from an rogue enemy.
Starlight Celebration, had a silly speed run game, and they even added a mini-game resembling Mastermind to it.
Sunbreeze Festival probably my favorite one of them all. They have 3 mini-games.
- Discerning Eye game where you have to spot what is wrong with the picture
- A Shooting Gallery game, where targets pops up and you have to shoot the right ones
- A Chocobo catching game, a 2d top down view where you catch falling chocobo chicks and avoid harmful items
The list goes on, and they seem to be adding more little games to each event over the years.
The only one that I remember where you didn't have any event activities was the Doll Festival.
I don't need to throw up any ideas because I have no problems with the current events or how they are handled. I am content.
I would not be content with doing triple backflips in an event such as the one OP proposed just to get a pumpkin head on halloween. The events are just sideshows for fun, not some sort of grindfest so we can show off our santa hat like its friggin allagan gear.
Its a valentine event, its as fun/shallow as the holiday itself.
I'm just glad there is no fates involved and that it actually requires of others (albeit of opposite genders) to complete.
Maybe it's the music. FFXI events feel more lively.

I *really* liked the quests - I found all three of them well-written and entertaining. I especially enjoyed the fact that instead of creating new npcs, they picked already-existing ones. The world of ARR as it is desperately needs more of that kind of flavour.
Sure, it was no GW2 event - but it was short and sweet - befitting Valentine's Day. The last thing this game needs is MORE instanced dungeon-esque content, in my opinion. I would have loved a mini-game or two, I won't deny it- but I enjoyed the way this event turned out and I look forward to them fleshing it out a bit more next year. I'd rather they concentrate on the core game right now as it feels quite bare.
And we didn't see events like those for quite a while after launch. You can't compare all the years of FFXI to a few months of FFXIV, and even if you did so far the current events are very similar to the FFXI events in how they structure them and how they deliver them to the players. Also XI had many more years to diversify and thus you get a couple of more interesting events, and the ones near the beginning of XI's lifetime were very similar to what we see now in FFXIV. Go talk to a few npcs, maybe stab something real quick, go talk to the npc again. It's generally the same content.
Going back and forth NPC is alright, like the Ul'dah quest part for this Valentione event was fun imo.
I kind of want to see event's like this though... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vq3x4uniak
The early years of FFXI events weren't completely bare of activities.
Such as Goldfish scooping for the 2004 event (July 23-Aug 8 2004), which was Summerfest until they've renamed/re-branded it Sunbreeze the following year, to has been there the entire time.
Same goes for the Valentione (Valentines) matching pairs, and Egg Hunt (Easter) collecting eggs.
I can't account for what events were occurring on FFXI JP release date of 2002, though I heard it was as much as a mess as FFXIV 1.0 was on release.
I had acknowledged that they've added more activities to the base event activities, and that they are growing.
Though I'm repeating myself from the earlier post in this thread, it bares repeating.
If you take a look at FFXIV 1.0 events, they've managed to at least provide engaging events when Yoshi took over. That is after the first few events, with Tanaka's casual bells concept... and Yoshi taking over post 2011.
FFXIV 1.0 was released on Sept. 22, 2010,
- Starlight Celebration (Dec 15-31 2010) the crafting items given out with Bells
- Valentione's Day (Feb 1-15 2011) more crafting items given out with Bells
- Little Ladies' Day (Feb 17-March 1 2011) again... Bells.
- Firefall Faire (Aug 11-29 2011) where you had to escort a bombard.
- All Saints' Wake (Oct 18-Nov 1 2011) with the quiz and riddles of FFXIV lore.
Compare this to FFXIV 2.0 events (post Aug. 27th 2013)I'm assuming the FFXI, FFXIII-3 and Dragon Quest X FATE events won't be reoccurring. But who knows...
- Moonfire Faire (Sept 9 2013) FATE item drop at Costa del Sol, FATE exist outside of event time frame
- All Saints' Wake (Oct 18-Nov1 2013) A fetch'em side quest chain
- Starlight Celebration (Dec 18-31 2013) FATE again, this time event specific FATE
- Heavensturn (Dec 31-Jan 14 2014) A fetch'em side quest chain
- Valentione's Day (Feb 2-17 2014) A fetch'em side quest chain
To be fair to SE, I never even bothered with any of the seasonal events in 1.0, other than the first Moonfire Faire in 2011 (and even then all I did was grab the swimwear, I never bothered hunting down the stupid bombs or anything - I just couldn't be bothered doing it). ARR I actually feel like doing the seasonal events as they're just more engaging.
I think I might have chose a poor set of words.
I didn't quite mean 'engaging' as being alluring or appealing. I in fact did mention that this Valentione side quest series were quite amusing and endearing.
and of course ze puff-puff from Dragon Quest X tickled my funny bone.
I was just hoping for some sort of silly game that'll break the status quo of what is already offered in the game.
Not to have another FATE that is more or less the same content that we can encounter in all over Eorzea.
You can call these events stupid no matter how they present them. But I enjoy the silly games, that's just me.
I have to agree. I really like the event quests that have been in game so far. I like the little outfits we have gotten and the easy handful of exp that comes along with it. They are just events, nothing more nothing less. However I am disappointed with this valentines day one, only for the fact that I don't have anyone to swoon over with my amazing personality and take awesome screenshots with for the contest! haha you'll always have people on the opposite side of the spectrum. Maybe down the road they will make more "challenging" holiday events for the people that have been disappointed this far.
The only two 1.0 seasonal events I had the pleasure of taking part in were the 2012 Moonfire Faire and 2012 Foundation Day events (I started playing March 2012).
As far as I could tell, those two events were used as prototypes for the FATE system found in 2.0. The Moonfire Faire event involved using the temporary /firedance emote on approaching Bombards in order to damage them but was otherwise functionally identical to the 2.0 version of the Moonfire FATE (i.e. kill bombs before they damage the float too much). This dropped bombard ash which could be traded to vendors. The Foundation Day event involved hundreds of people zerging down Atomos, who randomly spawned at one of several aetheryte camps every 8 in-game hours. Atomos would randomly drop over-aspected clusters which could be traded to a GC npc for GC seals, completing the event. So, to those advocating a return to 1.0's events, they were basically FATEs too. That said, I enjoyed them and I enjoy the current events too.
See you next event! /chickendance
