Can't really fault this list. This is what most people want I think. Especially the meaningful party play situation, that keeps coming up.

SE just copy FFXI in FFXIV
Players will never be satisfied because they all have played FFXI. We just need a copy of FFXI with better graphic. Nothing to add.
/moarchars
Potential... that's a word I have heard a million times... hell I've used it myself... but you see it enough and it just starts to change meaning... what it means... is incomplete. xiv is incomplete. it was incomplete at launched, it's still incomplete now. We could wait 2 more years and it may still be incomplete. Quite frankly when I plugged this thing in I was expecting more of what I loved, XI-2. I got a bland world, bland story, bland gameplay, and (no offence) a bland in game community. To be perfectly honest, if I could get my money back, I would.
they killed FFXI so fast with short expansions the 9.99 ones, and finally destroyed everything they had for years with Abyssea... they gave up on ffxi long ago, i don't want that in ffxiv! I sure would welcome some working concepts of ffxi ported to ffxiv but i would rather have them improve them. So far they just left everything out.
They should have looked at what the major playerbase enjoyed (is is the ffxi playerbase) and ALSO check other mmos for nice things to copy without alienating their fanbase that much. They did nothing, left everything out. And now they might take as long to fix this game as other developers need to fully develop a game. looking at the speed of changes or the non-changes, i think i am right, even though i hope i'm not.
Its amazing how they managed to keep the game in this state for so long. Its as if they wanted it to die.
I'm sick and tired of all the people asking to clone FFXI. I know you guys are in love with the game but you gotta realize that that's only you! How many players does FFXI currently have? Right, not very much.... maybe 200k at best. The game is not popular at all, far from there so get over it.
Do you think SE invested that much money and 5 years of work just to get a 200k or less players base? Also, last time i checked SE wants to keep FFXI alive so why would they turn FFXIV into FFXI and then kill one game in the process. And you ask this as if all they had to do is go into FFXI hit CTRL+C and then go to FFXIV and do CTRL+V to magically turn this into FFXI. My friend you got no idea of the amount of work involved and that would mean scrapping all the work they did during the past months.
So bottom line, if you want FFXI that bad then why they hell are you here and not playing FFXI?
Because they've killed off ffxi. I did go back after playing 14.. and its just not the same. Its too damn easy. Hell, its worse than ffxiv.
And no one wants a 1:1 clone. They want the class system, party system, AH, zone/species variety, lore, quests, mog houses, everything that made ffxi great. Not some crap armory system and a game designed to be easy, bland, and boring.
And if you've been paying attention, SE has invested a ton of money and has much less than a 200k playerbase and has admitted that the game is junk. Will it ever recover? Not in its current state. People want what made them stick around and play ffxi for years. You can say "well alot of people in this thread said they don't want ffxi-2"...
But look at the server populations, most of the people that wanted that left because they saw how far removed from anything good this game is. They are very few of us left here, most have given up on the project. Soon this forum will be nothing but people who "love the game" in its current state, and that will be the end.
yeah I to do not want a 1-1 clone of FFXI....but the basic stuff from FFXI....they could have kept and added the new stuff on top of it. Is that not the basics of what you do when you create a second is a particular "series" -.-
At launch FFXIV should of had all the basic systems FFXI had up to its last expansion. As much as I dont like to tear down peoples visions or ideas...... the original director really screwed things up............
i dont know why everyone was expecting something new, SE didn't even change the races. Unless you call taking a tail away and stamping it with a different name. Has SE's creativity dried up so much that they couldn't provide us with one new playable class. The reason for this was cause SE wanted the game to feel familiar to ffxi fans, not different.
For people who don't want FFXI-2, there are plenty of other casual non-Final Fantasy MMOs out there to play. FFXI basically took everything from the classic Final Fantasy games and made it online so you could play with your friends. FFXIV took everything that was Final Fantasy about FFXI and threw it in the trash. If they built FFXI-2 and ran it simultaneously with FFXIV, we could compare the subscriber numbers and see what people really want.
... and as far as total subscriber numbers go, I'd MUCH rather have a challenging game with 200k subs than one that is dumbed down in an attempt to draw in the other 6 million people that prefer single player games and don't have time to play an MMO.
I would like to see that... but dunno if I can handle bunch of emo-tards talking/walking next to Cloud if the original FFVII characters exist in the MMO Version lol. Add cloud/sephiroth hairstyle you know you gonna get 50% with that hair style character...
SE needs revenue to fix XIV? Remake the damn FFVII on PS3 like they showed off the tech demo... damn it
loved XI, but I want a new game. I just want XIV to play on the strengths of XI, not copy it.
Evolve, that's the word. XI was amazing, but lets get XIV even better. ^^
there are 2 sides to every argument
On one hand... SE was going for a much bigger player base than FFXI... and lets be honest, reskining a game that has dwindling player base does not increase the population...
As big as world of Warcraft was (12 million sold), Cataclysm did under 4 milllion... thats still incredible numbers but what do you think would happen to a game that was doing less than a half a million? The truth is, a reskinned FFXI would have done even lower numbers than the original and pleased a small handful of people
On the other hand, there are numerous systems from FFXI that should have, at the very least, been integrated into this game.... They didn't even need to copy/paste them, but just something like them....
But you know what? I felt like they didn't ignore FFXI... they were just so rushed, they never got time to put that stuff in....
Kind of like if you're rushing to pack for vacation and you miss a few things....
Well SE missed a lot in the big move.... from /assist to LS commands...
So instead of arguing about what should have been, and in fact arguing 2 completely different things.... Lets try to move forward amicably
You say people want what made FFXI great but you're completely wrong. People don't want that, YOU and a few FFXI fans want it. SE doesn't want you or whoever quit FFXI to play FFXIV, they couldn't care less. They want the MILLION of people out there playing WOW and other MMOs.
FFXI does not appeal to any of these players, because if it did they would have been playing it a long time ago. FFXI had some cool features it's true but SE is trying to make something DIFFERENT then FFXI and keep FFXI running too. Do you really think that they should run 2 games with the same features? How does that make any sense?
SE needs to fix FFXIV and make it great and UNIQUE. That's what going to appeal to the million of people out there. They couldn't care less for FFXI or a mog house just like SE couldn't care less for FFXI's minority crowd. They can make the game great in it's own way, while offering a new experience.
FFXI-2 is the only way to save this game atm.Imho.
Don't trust Famitsu score... I noticed they go by business partners... rather trust Yahoo reviews and stuff from actual player scores.
Honestly think Famitsu (now) is getting paid for posting awesome reviews sometimes on crappy game for sales. Notice how they got quiet along with Dengeki after all the reports on how awesome FFXIV is in the interview prior to release? w
This is EXACTLY what's wrong. You're so used to how FFXI does it that you don't consider other ways to do it. City of Heroes' search system is far, FAR better than FFXI's version in almost every way. Yet everybody is scream for /sea instead.
Regardless of how they incorporate it, I just hope they give us a way to be invis/anonymous. Getting random tells and invites when you're doing other things is extremely annoying.
It's a so restricted function's game.
With a Drag & Drop, Click & Wheel interface, better skinning interface, allow the use of "addons" to show some more thing on the window screen, i wish i could be able to see my arrows/money/etc... left without going into the menu to see it and so more.
Allow Keybind, show the 3 buttons bars at the same time.
At this point i'm totally agree with you. it's missing some rythme, but FFXIV is not designed like that :(Quote:
rhythm game
take the graphical effect and battle rythm from FFXIII, they are beautiful, i mean, cure is like throwing a salve to your mate. The rythme also was speed but you where able to choose more slowly what you want to use.
I hope the third MMO from SE will be something like that !
FFXI is old, abyssea fun, easy, but still fun. We are in 2011, a ton of new MMO choosed Free to play because their game suck, they wanted to innovate and fail, if FFXI was released this years, it should have been one of thoses MMO that's fail at the release (like FFXIV), the best way to keep member is to do the same as the AAA MMO but with some news things without going to far ~
FFXIV, have the graphical, the story, the craft system, everything else should just be revamp.
I don't blame Square Enix, even if FFXIV is not so good, there's still some nice thing that deserve to be seen.
I've played XI off and on for the total of 9 years, however I've played RO consistently for 5 -- which would mean in reality I'm more used to how RO does things than I am FFXI. It's merely common sense that if both games are titled Final Fantasy and both are built by the same company which also employs the same development team for both projects and had the same director and producer you'll logically assume they would have built off of the basics, which has been proven to work or XI wouldn't exist today.
XI's search system was basic -- which means for FFXIV they could have incorporated it and as I said built from it which means making it better. Instead they went the route of making almost everything worse. I've also played:
Lineage
Lineage II
Knight Online
Kal Online
WoW
TERA
Rift
Rappelz
Iris
Lucent Hearts
So I'm pretty sure I've been exposed to plenty of "other ways to do it", but none of those games are by the same company and same development team.
Wow, another great post!
I too hear ppl say that such and such did this better, MW vs AH ect ect but this is FF by SE and its in line after XI by the same company so you would think it would follow in the foot steps of their own. It should not be "lets see a search/ah/combat style comparable to wow" but one that is like XI's, because XIV is the predecessor to that game.
I agree that there are things this game could have learned from... but not just because its an SE title... or a numbered FF game
VII was unlike VIII which was unlike IX and so on....
FFX didn't even have levels....
So FFXIV needs LS management options, assist commands, a command to see the people in a region...
whether they use FFXI's model or not, these things are needed
I bolded the important part. S-E can stand to learn from not just FFXI but all FF games, from the Chrono games, from Dragon Quest, Vagrant Story, and their other titles. They can learn a lot from WoW and EVE and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes too.
S-E could've learned from a lot. Instead they put their head in the sand when they made FFXIV.
When Yoshida was put in charge, I was hopeful: here's a guy who has played a ton of games.
Now let's just hope he's allowed to apply his experience.
The comaparisons to XI are rather obvious because it like XIV are their MMORPG titles O.o;
Loved FFX, FFT/A-2,FFII,FFIII but were not talking about the LS Management system from thoes game because.... there wasnt one.
I agree, it doesnt have to be just like XI's just using XI as a jumping point and saying the systems in it were functional at the very least you can give XI that.
fine then, go back to FFXI and play that then.
If they wanted to create a new FFXI they would've just called this game FFXI-2. I hope FFXIV doesn't become a pimped out FFXI clone but I'm starting to have my doubts with all the auto-attack system coming up.
Look, I know your attention span is pretty short and you're not gonna read the whole thread or even more than half of any given post, so just do us both a favor and read post #61 real quick.
And since you probably stopped reading three lines ago, you won't be offended if I tell you to just shut the hell up if you can't say something either nice or original.
I agree with OP.
Make 11-2, call it ff15, whatever.
I've given up on 14 now. Taken too long.
Mog house, AH (omygawd), storylines with endings in them, quest cutscenes, quest-lines, environment design, good battle effects, skill chains, feng-shui, elemental attributes to everything, progressively harder enemies in different looking zones, chocobos. Real JOBS! Airships, all of that is content that would make XIV better.
No need to "look into" those features for months if they work. Get it done please.
People saying FFXI-2 is a good idea are confusing FFXI fans with FF series fans. I am a big fan of the FF series but not FFXI. I wouldn't even have given this game a second look if it was called FFXI-2, or if it was greatly similar to FFXI. FFXIV pulled me away from playing other MMOs because it was not FFXI. More of the same isn't going to pull in new players but only maybe move some of the old ones who still would still rather play FFXI into FFXIV.
A FF fan is not necessarily a fan of FFXI. Likewise, a FFXI fan is not necessarily a FF fan.
Now, I completely agree with people saying that some aspects of FFXI would benefit FFXIV, but the same can be said of every MMO. Certain aspects from just about any other game could be noted improvements.
If I wanted to play a clone of FFXI, I'd just play FFXI.
I'd like something that takes the concepts of FFXI and improves on them to be more fun. (Incidentally, I found combat in XI to be boring as all hell. The only thing that made them interesting was skillchains, and even that required having a flowchart.)
