The PvP Is AMAZING. Square Enix has delivered.

PvP is ok, but needs some tweaking.

1. Reduce start timer to 1 min.
2. Reduce Sleep to 10s or so.
3. Reduce cd of Purify or tweak the Sleep.
4. Playing Melee is a pain in the banghole against moving targets (EU).
5. Kill healer => Win every scenario.
6. SCH >>>>>>> WHM in PvP.

So before work this morning I did 8 matches and won them all as a Dragoon, and they where all pug. I pretty much instructed my team to go after their DPS either BLM,BRD,DRG,MNK in that order. As I stay on the healer what this dead was cause the healer to have to keep splitting his heals while trying to avoid me. With everyone else on the team on the BLM its hard for them to get their sleep off, and even if they do either I'm still beating on the healer, or he is getting beat on by 3 others. It seemed to always work within my pug groups I ran. I did have one match where me and another DRG killed a WHM in 5 secs flat lol was pretty funny,.

One of the most thoughtless PvP modes I have played in across several MMOs in a long time. Melee deadzone is infuriating and nigh-unplayable. Sleep CC is unbelievable (30s CC, lol?)

From the comments I read I fear for the pvp community as I said as a Dragoon I have yet to lose a match, and all I see is complain complain complain about sleep which isn't that bad if your team is smart.

5. I had no latency issues playing on servers in my home region.
6. Yes/No. Killing the healer is generally the best way to secure a win, but if you tunnel vision on the healer, good teams will stomp you.

So, I've been playing more recently on my PC w/ Controller, and I've made some adjustments that I don't know if it's the same on PS3, but I'll stick to what the PS3 can do.

First of all I have hotbar#1 (R1+Triangle, and the default hotbar after changing classes) is the only hotbar that is shared amongst classes. I've got my Chocobo summoning abilities, Teleport/return/sprint, and then the rights side has a summon mount, and my main equipment sets macro'd to it.

Then #2 (R1+O, or just tap R1 from main hotbar) is my 'main' hotbar. I can macro almost every command I need to click on WAR into that hotbar.
#3 (R1+X, or tap R1 from #2) is more of a 'stance' bar. EG, on WAR is has my Defiance, and a couple other abilities I don't use often, on PLD, it's got Sword Oath, Shield Oath, Cover. . .

Now, I plan on setting my PvP Hotbars similarly, but on the Dpad (giving myself room to expand my PvE Hotbars) So if the first 4 are the 'shape' buttons, the second 4 'direction' hotbars will be for PvP. eg R1+=> (right arrow lol) will be my main hotbar, and R1+ V (down?) will be my stance hotbar.

I play melee, and I have no issues with sleep or deadzones. Maybe you are not good? :(

I just wish you could see characters names :( It's gonna be pretty much impossible to build a pvp community now...not to mention the fact that the Final Fantasy franchise has a HUGE RP-based following. I'm not included in that, but honestly I could see a lot of people being upset that their name isn't visible.

There is NOT a single PvP game in the world that allows 10s+ singe C/C.
That's like a law, a basic, you can't change a fact.
Nobody wants to have to watch their healer get stomped by a team while you sleep for 30 seconds and you can't help it, making the BLM the most needed almost in a PvP.
It's unbalanced and everyone knows it, don't try to defend something that is a failure or else they'll never fix it.

PvP should be balanced as much as possible from the very start. That means not locking vital skills behind point walls that furthers the disparity between those just starting and those who have PvPed a while. It's ridiculous that you only get access to the skills you need to play a balanced game after you win a bunch.

PVE has to take a hit to balance PVP. This is the single biggest issue is when a game is designed around PVE and then tack on PVP massive balance issues arise

There are plenty of counters and the counters will only become stronger as people learn teh meta, get gear, and new abilities.

If you cant avoid a 2.5 second cast, well, thats your own issue.

Sometimes this is true, but i think having many PVP-only abilities shows that SE is not afraid to differentiate the two.

I haven't gotten to play yet; but I was considering the strategy -> Manaward/Manawall -> Sprint -> Swiftcast Sleep while they're still close together -> Destroy healer would be the most likely strategy...

After a few pvp you can buy the sleep immunity or cleanse so...suddenly it's tricky for them to sleep your entire team?

It's true PvP tends to be a mess in most games but there's like literally no way it can work with CC lasting as long as they did. People much smarter than you or I tried to make stuff work with very long CC duration and none of them ever succeeded at the mainstream level.

Once again: PvP skills should be balanced out of the gate, not after you've had to suffer for a while. It's bad enough that there will be a gear disparity between those who have PvPed a while and those just starting, but to add a gap in actual skills, when the presence of those skills necessitates that the classes be balanced around having them? It's ridiculous.

Plenty people are countering sleep just fine.

Maybe you should yeah before commenting? I literally fired my heavyshot and silence while he was casting as well as the PLD hitting him and it still went off. Then GG WHM and BLM sleep locked the whole team for the entire fight.

Also since the BLM just did nothing but sleep he just went around sleeping us all, so much for spreading out, right?

I unfortunately only have had a chance to play one match, but it seems like movement was vast increased for everyone. Like we were all at sprint speed already and the match devolved into a game of tag.

I'm hoping to probe it in more depth but it seems a bit 'odd' for now. Perhaps its by being spoiled by a game like GW2 which is basically build around the who PvP arena combat. Or perhaps its me trying to apply the same rules of quick movement and such. i.e. maybe the correct way to play is stand still, engage and use your skill rather than running/chasing each other in circles.

That's honestly what it seemed like to me though. Would love to hear from those who have gotten in a bit more playtime to see if there is more depth.

Idk why meele are complaining, as a drg i am perfectly fine. Maybe its the user not the class that is gimped.

I'd say PVP is broken ATM. Sleep is the meta. Going against 2 BLM and 1 WHM. Its over.

sleep 3 targets, kill the fourth. if its interrupted or purified, swiftcast sleep.

It's going to take a while to farm the needed sleep resist materia, rank 2 purify.

Yeah, because why should it be fun and balanced right from the start? I mean how else are they gonna get 15/month from you unless you put up with an endless grind?

Sleep is overrated, against organized teams swiftcast+sleep is nothing really. You can buy the first personal CC break skill at rank 3, DR is also pretty steep, and even without it leeches/esuna have incredibly short cast times.

If you're getting slept a lot you're not using the terrain to your advantage.

Overall enjoying PvP quite a bit, if anything a SCH correctly played is a real monster.

If blizzard2 and holy weren't nerf'd, a group of 3 BLM+healer could be the FFXIV version of a bomb group. :D

BLM is only OP because people are 1. Grouping up and 2. Don't take measures to stop them.
My group went with a 70% win rate as pld mnk sch brd. Healer (me) used Purify to remove sleep, then removed sleep from the BRD, who then started to ping the BLM so he couldn't recast it. pld and mnk took care of their healer, and I ended up kiting everyone else. Died a lot against teams that had comparable gear, but dominated people with less gear. (our group averaged item level around 84ish)

Chasing people /get sleep debuff in pvp isn't funny at all <.<
