Bard role changed from Support to Caster Pet

To all the idiots out there who are saying QQ BRDS, you lose DPS..

We lost Rain of Death as well, or rather, YOU LOST Rain of Death. But please, continue to cry and bitch about Bards. Get your Ballad and Requiem nerfed, too. You know why we're taken into Coil groups over another DD? Because we're not DD. We're support. Our damage is actually quite low when we support (which we do in Coil). If DD are losing spots to Bards because of only a DPS issue, seriously, learn to DPS. Our DPS can be the same as a SMN pet and guess what, we're still gonna take that last spot over a DD.

We lost multitarget RoD, which was really only useful if your tank was undergeared or you were fighting a large group of enemies in coil, turn 4 (would probably have been useful in the new dungeons). The exchange is, you get a single target version for the boss mobs that actually (can) one shot your tank or string moves together to drop HP from 7k to dead on a more regular basis and without you having to spend 200 tp to do it.

The one problem i see is when Cad splits in turn one, you won't be able to help the PLD anymore with tossing RoD on the plds boss. So in essence, they reduced plds survivability slightly while increasing war's survivability greatly.

Also, now with they way they are trying to diversify parties, you may or may not see the stacking of bards. There will always be one bard in the party, they are too valuable to not have, just you may not see the stacking of two as often due to Mnk and Drg getting damage buffs to single target DPS.

Or the gear lottery that coil is atm hehe, might be they got Lucky on drops etc, just a crazy tought tho.

I was hoping that they could give silence to a melee (i know mnk have) but working more like Brd's, that would destroy the silence duty issue for random grps (brd x2). (tho most pld's do silence)
Spread out some utlility's, and get Brd's dps on par whit other ranged. Kept Smn Heavy on single target, BLM aoe king, melee whit LB and heave dd, and Brd a avrage dps whit songs. Just a tought.

Maybe, MAYBE if you look at percentage of overall damage.
But BLM and SMN damage was already high.
BRD damage was already the lowest of any DD. 20% behind in some cases.
So who cares about percentage of total damage.
Bard was the lowest DD and now we're even lower on top of having to swallow a pretty major utility nerf.

I understand that giving a damage down to WAR is an attempt to get groups to run with 1 of each tank. I also understand that they couldn't then let bard keep that effect because dungeons weren't tuned for that much damage down. But since it was such an integral part of Bard's support toolbox, I don't understand why they would replace it with something so useless while at the same time continuing with the damage nerf.
It's just too much.

I think "Caster Pet" sums up quite nicely what Bards have become. We have emergency mana and Foe's Requiem with lame DPS (which got further reduced). TP Song is useless and Rain of Death is also now useless.

So basically our job is to play servant to whatever WHM or BLM is in the party. Got it.

I personally don't get why such animosity exists against bards to the point where it is thought because you perform support that you shouldn't be able to do the same damage as others when not supporting. The damage penalty when supporting is fair. In my opinion there is nothing fun about having to play songs for the rest of the party. I do it but its not fun. I think the reason most people play bards is the rotation and the ability to do damage while moving.

Its true most who play brd do it for this reason. But there are some who actual enjoy playing support roles and helping out the rest of the party. MMO's are team games a group set out to achieve a particular goal and if that means we have to take a back seat to other's so that we can help them and others out then so be it. Only thing I'm a little miff'd about is the RoD nerf, yes I know it would have been very OP in pvp but they could have just added the subtext "Not usable in PVP"

It's not unheard of, however. I've raided with raid leaders and DPS that will adjust their gear if they have classes with buffs/debuffs that will put them at/over accuracy cap.

The tricky part is indeed bards keeping the evasion debuff up all the time, though.

And tanks should be the first to take up arms over that nerf. Except we aren't...

I'm pretty upset about our nerfs, but our support role is still valid. Healers are going to have to heal more, since we can't rain and casters can't Virus chain. More opportunities to Ballad. You pretty much HAVE to go with one WAR and at least one melee now with LB2/3 nerfs, and when they're putting out their highest DPS combos, TP becomes an issue (especially on 2 second GCD MNKs). More opportunities to Paeon. BLM and SMN lost some DPS, so we can help cover a little of the gap with Requiem. These all-around nerfs to ranged classes are going to force us to work better together as a team instead of taking the easy ways out.

On the bright side, we no longer have to waste TP on Rain of Death, since it's a useless skill now.
