Fantasy Earth Zero Style!
I never use the word "carebear", I don't play WoW, and I certainly don't trash talk players in a competitive environment. I WILL however, trash talk people who think an entire form of OPTIONAL gameplay should be kept out of an MMO simply because they don't like human competition. From my point of view, your post is written like this:
I don't care about players who enjoy PvP, please keep it out of MY game because one day I might decide to try a PvP match, lose, and get talked down to by an anonymous player over the internet. My feelings are at risk of being hurt by a stranger I will never meet.
As I said earlier, it's completely silly for anyone to say NO to a form of gameplay they will NEVER have to participate in unless they CHOOSE to. It's in no way detrimental to the game as a whole or to the community. The "PvP no thanks" without an actual valid reason mentality is.
Sadly alot of you that say you don't care about pvp, modern mmos without it, tend not to fare well at all now a days. FF14 needs pvp or it will not last. There is just something about fighting something with an IQ higher than a tadpole. Brings people together and actively creates competition. It has a bonding quality to it, which is why people like mmos, the interaction with other living, breathing individuals.
I played so many mmos, from my experience pvp and pve are not compatible. If they bring pvp tp FFXIV im out of here since im a pve player. I have seen too many games ruined by pvp.
I am all for them implementing some sort of competition between players (sports, racing, gambling, something more creative) but PVP in MMORPG games just brings a whole set of problems. For starters, the never ending cycle of balancing classes and 'hardcore' cry baby bitches complaining every time they deem another class overpowered.
i dont think we gonna seee pvp soon. maybe like 1.2 patch.
I want PVP, just no random ganking. That is essentially what people don't want to see, when they are afk or minding their own business, crafting, mining, they don't want some asshole stabbing them in the back. I actually loved ballista in ffxi, and I really wished a lot of linkshell vs. linkshell dramas could be settled in pvp competition. I fought with and against Japanese people a lot in ballista and I feel proud that some can remember and recognize me. As for NA people, most of them were sissies and didn't give ballista a chance and when they did, they wanted to fight one on one, and contributed nothing to the group.
If any of you guys played Fantasy Earth Zero, a game developed by SE in 2005, it was 50 vs 50 pvp, and people can join one of the 5 countries and take over land. Group pvp is great since everyone can have different roles. You can be the main attacker, the tank, the lurer, the ambusher, the defense structure builder, the petra farmer, or the scout. Just because you are a healer doesn't mean you don't stand a chance in pvp. You and maybe 2 damage dealers can make quite a formidable group.
I love the idea of employing some military strategy in defeating a larger, much more powerful group. I usually played the lurer and I'd go in there and attack their base then hope a lot of their best players chase me far, at the same time my rag tag team, sneaks to their base and starts tearing down their buildings with only a few people left to defend it. I also let them chase me back to a certain spot where some of our ninjas will ambush them. It's a lot of fun and I would love to earn sp this way.
I don't really need a PvP system for anything but opinions in this matter are pretty useless since SE hasn't mentioned the PvP in a LOoooOOooNg time which is probably their way of saying "yup we made promises but can you just wait 2 more years until we get it done?"
Personally I like rpgs and FF titles because I'll never have enough time to play a game to survive a PvP match in any genre and I like to relax by playing a very long slow paced game. (yeah I just had to say that because it'll probably annoy the hell out of someone who thinks headshotting a n00b is the holy grail of videogaming)
Kaboro, can you name the 2 biggest mmos right now? They would be wow and aion, pvp based games. You are completely wrong in you statement.
I hope SE think like you!!
"Headshotting a n00b" is not what PvP is about. Outsmarting a living opponent, making comebacks, learning new strategies, etc. It's why people play fighting games competitively, it's why people play RTS competitively, it's why people like PvP. Don't get me wrong I love PvE but if I'm looking for a real challenge AI does not cut it like a human being. An NPC monster in an MMO is a challenge because he's probably much stronger than you, has a massive HP pool, and a some random abilities that hit everyone within a one mile radius for half their HP while inflicting a variety of status effects. A HUMAN opponent in an MMO only has access to the same resources that you do, so the only way you can beat them is by figuring them out and outsmarting. It doesn't get old like fighting the same boss 100x in a row does.
I agree, although it never really bothered me getting ganked unless I was on right before work trying to get something done quick. It was just a counter point. As long as there is arena PvP eventually I'll be satisfied. In FF though, with NMs thankfully being a large part of the game it probably would piss me off.
Duels, yes. Open world, no-restrictions PvP absolutely not. I'm fine with PvP as long as there is no ganking and no griefing. I remember trying to do quests in certain areas in Aion and it was downright impossible some days. Certain players would hang out in specific areas and never leave, just griefing people trying to actually progress.
Structured, consensual PvP I am 100% okay with and I even welcome it. I prefer group PvP personally, sieges were actually some of the most fun I had while playing Aion. Duels I'm perfectly fine with too, agreeing to fight under certain terms.
That's quite a generalization my friend. I was here in Alpha, Beta and Live (your should see my forum post count from beta). FFXI for 7 years despite the lack of PvP and my love for PvP. I don't have a big mouth and I do care more for the balance of PvE than PvP. PvP onry people will get their satisfaction on CoD or battlefield if not in an MMO. That's what I do, run some quests/missions/events take a break to pop off some headshots in Battlefield and then back to grinding XP. Not the end of the world. Though I probably could kick your butt :P
I started the day of launch after playing beta in Aion so I was 50 before most and had already picked up PvP experience so I didn't really fall victim to it in say Eltnen or Heiron. I certainly dished it out in Morehiem & Beluslan though. It was epic fun for us. Our legion would have drunken rifting night every Friday during which we usually just ended up giving AP to the inhabitants. It was funny, there were comments on our profile pages saying things like "Only go after him on Friday night, other days of the week run" until NC axed commenting. I digress.
I agree with you. Unrestricted open world PvP would be very bad for FF playerbase. I like the idea of a open zone PvP though. Like Aion's Abyss but with no quests, instances, dungeons or critical need to be in that zone. Some time killers would be cool maybe like optional levequests or mobs that could be farmed for usable materials. NOT! Critical items like, say Blood Stains for any other Aion players.
I'd be open to a no restrictions PvP zone as long as, like you said, there was nothing critical there that you needed to have to progress. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to get something done only to have your progress come to a screeching halt because of a few dicks who feel like griefing people.
I'm sure there will be no ganking, at least I can tell from just this thread. I think the best thing would be a /duel option personally I like pvp to see if my build can beat my friends builds and /duel is great for this.
In XI you had to do a lot of work just to duel your friends, so I never pvped hardly. All other pvp I don't mind as long as it's not reward motivated, or the rewards aren't unique to just pvp, otherwise it'd be almost like you had to pvp to fulfill other basic motivations of an mmorpg (like gear attainment to further customize your char). Before anyone gets upset about this think about it there are lots of things they could reward you that wouldn't force others to pvp, like guildmarks, gil, or what about if you could take some of your opponents anima for winning, along with a ranking board.
As for another idea that I think is pretty unique, they should have a tower type game where you can go in solo or in a party and it can have many stages (possibly infinite) and you see how far your group can get and you can sp that way or something while the top groups or players of the tower are posted in game for fun.
It's not directly pvp but it creates a sense of competition that some might even call a PvEers PvP.
This game's engine and server lag is too poor for PVP.
Arena please thanks.
I found one great comment about pvp in mmos I thought I will share ;D
"Who cares if a game has pvp balance? Balance in mmo pvp is one of the dumbest things.
I'm a wizard who can call down demons and hellfire to melt my enemies. You're a plucky young warrior with a broadsword. Of course its fscking imbalanced!
Or... I'm a drooling idiot who keyboard turns and you memorized sun tzu, have the latest and greatest gaming mouse and macro keyboard. Again, it's going to be imbalanced.
You want balance in your pvp, play with your xbox."
PvP will be: Tic Tac Toe !!!
Enough said.
I played XI and i loved having PVP as an option. I dont want a game thats centered around PVP, nor do i want classes/jobs rebalanced for PVP. I like hoe XI had it, of course a White Mage wasnt going to beat a Ninja, but it was there for those who wanted it..
Here are a few ways i want PVP implemented in XIV..
*Open World Duels.
- You can challenge anyone to a duel.
- Party duels can be possible if both party leaders accept the duel.
- Losing results in you dying, but you get raised right after the duel is finished.
*Instanced Deathmatch style.
- Team Vs. Team with respawns.
*Instanced Seige.
- Take control of the enemy stronghold, accumilating points over time.
*Capture.
- Seek out and capture specific items, when all items are captured the match ends.
- Offense seeks and captures while Defense defends the items.
*Protect.
- Both teams have a party member to protect which is selected randomly each round.
- The winning condition is to kill this party member before they kill yours..
I would like PVP in XIV to have the emphasis on TEAM PLAY in order to appeal to all playstyles and not just DD.
Also have a mode where Gatherers and crafters compete in Competitions.
-A mode where all Gathering classes compete in 2 teams in an instance to gather the most, or specific items and deliver them running through obstacle of mobs.
-A mode where all Crafting classes in 2 teams compete to build huge things, like a huge cake to serve 50 guests that need chairs and table to sit which the carpenters build etc.
im a WoW arena junkie but in FFXIV i hope there is no PvP. and to the guy that said PVP players are lamer..
Really??
PVE, learn to kill a Mob you kill it everytime after
PVP, you never know whats up another players sleeve.
If I had my say with it, any PvP to EVER be implemented would follow these golden rules:
1. No gear or other such items would be rewarded for PvP based content in any form. I'd be fine with like, a novelty lvl 1 trophy item or something, but under no circumstances do I wanna see gear like in other mmos, where you have to do a bunch of PvP to get the good stuff. Screw that completely.
2. There would be absolutely no forced PvP zones anywhere in the game. The only PvP that should ever be implemented, is a strictly consensual duel style system, if that. No PvP zones, servers, areas, quests, raids, or anything else along those lines.
3. No faction based PvP. I don't wanna ever hear about gridania vs. uldah or anything of that sort. Again, the only PvP this game should ever see is a duel style thing, maybe tournaments at the most, that you set up like the old ballista from FFXI.
4. The devs should NOT focus on balancing classes or skills or w/e else for PvP. They should focus strictly on balancing the mechanics of the game around PvE, and then tack on PvP and make it fit with that as best they can. If it's not perfect, oh well. Again, pretty much like what they did with FFXI PvP. If they did focus on balancing PvP, it would greatly detract from the PvE side of the game, and if people want a PvP focused mmo, there's plenty of other ones they can pick from. It just doesn't fit in with the final fantasy theme though. And it's nice to have an MMO around that caters to PvE players.
So yeah, as long as it follows all that, I wouldn't be opposed to PvP being added... I wouldn't support it either though... And if it broke any of those rules, I'd vote totally against it, so nyah. :P
Blitzball!!
Chocobo Polo!
