This is too much for me to process....why don't they just make a fishing job main story quest that would be wonderful. The game is the story of a Hero with the abiltiy to save the World, not a the story of a crafter making a rocking chair....LOL. This is just not your type of game.
http://gifb.in/ilsV How dare you. What if the anti-hero sat on a bloody rocking chair, decided that what matters is rocking freely and not violence and gives up on his evil plans.
Where is your creativity! Your left brain...(oh yes I did!)

I remember when I was younger... I was smarter than a lot of the people around me (though, I didn't have to go to college for that) and for awhile I started to feel better than a lot of people.
I grew up and it turns out I was just another arrogant "smart" person who clung to the idea that my ability to gather/remember information meant I was better than everyone else no matter what I was doing. Are the OP's points valid? Some of them are. For example, crafting classes shouldn't have to level up through the main story to gain access to things that they require. Levequests for crafters should be unlocked by crafters despite the fact the game was designed for you to level up your combat skills in order to level up your crafting. Did they have to be a d**k about it? No.
Not to mention all the "right brain"/"left brain" crap they kept mentioning to imply they were somehow better than the "mindless" human who prefers mindlessly grinding combat compared to mindlessly grinding crafting. In fact, crafting is much more mindless than combat is. The only real variable in crafting is the Good/Excellent chance. Without that you could create macro's, plug a controller in and spam your macro while watching a movie in full screen (controller works when the game isn't focus window).
There's also the fact the OP clearly knows nothing about the brain other than bad information that some silly people came up with to sound smart.
If you want to play a game about crafting, go find a game that revolves around crafting. I wouldn't join Minecraft and expect them to allow me to gain Diamonds from killing pigs as the game revolves around crafting and gathering, just as I wouldn't join The Sims and expect them to add MMORPG combat aspects. Pick a game that fits your needs, don't join a game and expect it to change to FIT your needs. Not one game has even been built to accommodate every single type of gamer. Not to mention you came in exceptionally aggressive to anyone who didn't agree 100% with your ideas because you thought you were better than everyone else. You have the typical mind-set of the average hardcore MMO player who thinks they're better than anyone who is even the slightest bit weaker than they are.
While I'm aware that the OP could have been trolling or is just too childish to use their brain (or whatever side they want to pretend is the correct side) and probably hasn't read these since they said they left, I'm bored since the game is down... plus the stupidity was too much to pass on.
Is their any reason to NOT level at least one combat class? What's stopping you from having just one class an go through the story anyway? Having a "hunting" class will allow you to go out and farm mobs and interact with players, and allow you to access materials you otherwise wouldn't have, and interact with people you other wise wouldn't interact with.
As for using right- or left- side of your brain. What is stopping you from using the other side of your brain if you prefer one or the other? Like when I'm playing WHM, nothing is stopping me from using my combat spells(which I'm notorious for). Heck, I have BTN and ALC leveled so I can make my own medics.
MMOs are worlds and Worlds or more about one thing. I liked playing MMOs that got crafting in them. It makes you feel like more than a person.
@FiniteTrue:WTF is ur problem? God dammit, after reading like 3 posts from u i'd rather see u gettin banned for ur rude and childish behaviour then actually even try to discuss ur matter here. U did right avoiding the forum till now and u should have continued to! nobody cares about the lonly opinion of a single loud-mouthed child whos part of a group of players which is so small that it's of no importance at all. I'm pretty sure SE will never listend to the maybe 10 ppl out of 500k active players who actually dont want to pve at all, thats just a redicoulus thing to propose in the first place. now just go away bad troll
I can agree all people should have an a fun time in accordance to their own goals . It is up to you to get Square Enix to agree good luck.
I think the main reason they made you level a combat class to unlock crafter was to combat RMT. If not every RMT would just create a crafter, collect the shards from the quest rewards and then start a new character.
