That is exactly my mindset on this class xD

I personally believe SAM will be a Tank role under LNC with perhaps GLD as a sub class. His Relic Weapon would be a Naginata (you people and your obsession with katana lol).
I'm almost 100% positive that whatever the next tank class will be, it will be on the LNC. It's quests were more tanking checks than anything else and before I became a DRG, I was simply able to tell bad tanks to just let me tank and they can be carried. All it would need is some AOE hate generating Job skills.
Does anyone else think it's dumb to make new jobs branch out from current classes? Lets say SAM comes from LNC main and WAR sub. The day SAM is released there are suddenly thousands of level 50 Samurais running around..... I leveled SMN as my main and played for months only it. One day I decided to unlock SCH and within an hour I had a level 50 healer. To me part of the fun of a job is leveling it and unlocking abilities to see how the job grows. all while learning how to play it effectively. Seems like a poor decision on SE's part to cut the amount of time a player play their game by releasing jobs at level 50.
Put it this way, once past level your level 30 class you only receive a few abilities (through five(?) quests) that are unique to the job class. Rather seems pointless to start at level 1 again just for those differing, quest related abilities.
This is what I'm hoping will happen.
I am in support of new classes requiring you to level from 1-50. The problem is that as it stands, the easiest way to get to 50 is by using FATE parties, which most of the time do nothing to teach you your job. I think this is very vital in cases such as SMN vs SCH. Going from DPS to healer in one fell swoop can be a bad experience for some.
I think DRK have a bigger potential to be a tank coz its similar to WAR; they both 2h, they rely on sacrificing hp/str for gain/loss, both rely on highest HP/dodge/parry ability than PLD. I think SE will make DRK as tank and SAM as the first 2h dps/DD class. Ninja will probably fall as a support/DOT DD class like SMN. They probably won't put Utsusemi on ninja, seeing it was abused in FFXI.
I understand you concern. I leveled up both paladin and warrior through dungeons. It's not feasible (especially for dps classes) to level through the dungeon experience to "learn" their class. Even the first class going through the quests 1 - 50 aren't really "taught" how to play outside of a few mandatory dungeons. Sometimes the best (and worst) learning is trial by fire.
As you said, the best way to level up is FATE running. Going from 1 - 50 again won't do much good to learn the class. This is just a pointless grind. Don't get me wrong, I dislike people that level through FATES and don't learn their class mechanics well when using DF for things. Is it "fair" to learn how to play the class at other's expense? Depends on the people you group with as some are friendly and some are down right hostile. However, as I do use the DF, I acknowledge I take a gamble on who ever it groups me with.
I am hoping with the new dungeon xp buff, it will be worth going through the dungeons instead of FATE so better players come out of it. But only time will tell, because it is hard to beat the xp from FATE and you can run dungeons all day and not learn your job too. I just feel there is a higher chance of learning by setting them in a group scenario as opposed to FATEs.
aye aye aye,
where's my little samurai,
green black and blue,
