If Cloud was female I'd still call him/her a confused person ashamed of who they were to the point they took on the identity of someone else in a difficult-to-dispel set of delusions. Because at the base, that's the whole deal with Cloud.
Lightning was sold to us as "awesome" almost from the start and SE pulled a Kojima Hideo by doing things to try to make us like Lightning as that "saga" continued. Cloud endeared himself to the playerbase as FFVII played out without any help from SE outside of the fact that he was the main character. There's a notable difference.
I dont want anymore fate events, but I'd love to see a series of instanced story quests with lots of CS.
You do realise that Lightning was designed after Tetsuya Nomura was told to 'make a female version of cloud'. BECAUSE FANS LOVE HIM SO MUCH, MONEY BAGS, RELATABLE CHARACTERS etc.
And as as a character in VII, he was fine, he had that cocky attitude and self-confidence which suited him as main character (See Squall for an example of a bad main character who could easily throw himself off a bridge after typing a boulder round his ankle. In VII:AC cloud turned into a mopey whiny little git, perhaps to relate to the audience even more /whoknows.
As for adding any of the aforementioned into FFXIV:ARR, all I can say it;

FF4>FF7 everyday of the week. rose-colored glasses!
I don't understand why people think Lightning's appearance didn't make sense. I didn't play any of the FFXIII games and even I know she was in some kind of suspended state and some gods are trying to control her. Louisoix sent us five years in the future and he is a normal, although gifted, Elvaan. If something as powerful as one of the twelve gods was toying with reality, I could easily see some hiccups being seen in other places of the FF universe. I'd like to think there is something about Hydaelyn that draws these seemingly supernatural events to occur on that specific planet, but as far as I am aware there is nothing stated to support that yet.
As for people saying ARR didn't have a compelling story; I take the exact opposite position. Maybe it's because I played to the end of 1.0, but ARR had the best story line of any MMO I've played.
Don't todo a cross over event make cloud, sephiroth,Tifa, zidane , Auron etc. all minions just for lols that would be better I think
actually if your use Kingdom heart story as base, is not impossible to see Cloud and Sephiroth come.... but that will be the kingdom heart version, not the one of FF7, the story is finished now.
....even if, the speech in advent children talk of a cycle restarting over and over, means sephiroth can pop out, but i doubt cloud can.
Only if we get to choose which side we're on. I'd love to kill Cloud. Whiny little bitch. Would rather see Kefka from VI.
Um, you guys did realize this was just a big marketing trick for Lightning Returns right? You think they did this to please the fans? It's just a giant advertisement. Why would they be interested in advertising for a game they have no more real stock in selling? The only reason would be to make people happy, and SE is in the business of making money, not joy.
Main reason is yes, 1.0 had better cutscenes, and the Scions were more important. The Scions by far were underutilized in ARR, and Cid who had a huge role in 1.0 was brought into ARR without any real connecting as to who he was. For those who experienced him in his pre-beard days, they saw a different man than we did here. All that talk in Praetorium is meaningless for a lot of us, because ARR never worked to make us care about him. When the Scions showed on the final cutscene, it draws more of a ??? from people than a "Ah wow that's awesome!" because ARR made us the super star, when it used to be about the characters in the story. I hated that ARR was about how I was this special snowflake in a sea of normalcy. I wanted to see why everyone else was supposed to be special too. Why I should give a shit about Eorzea, but they failed to do that for me.
Please dont.
Just.. dont.
They already adding Cloud Strife's hair style in next patch for barbershop that's more than enough x.x
FFXIV 1.0.
Where women catch people's battle and throwing axes with their hands or fingers. *points at Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn*
But I do agree that the 1.0 storyline made the main npc's look much better. But my favorite part was the storyling after 1.0 when the entire meteor stuff began. Aka the introduction of the Grand companies up to Nael's defeat.
It placed the npc and our character in a equally perfect spotlight. 1.0 had Merlwyb being all badass which I've seen nothing of it during ARR. Mind you the 1.0 storyline before meteor was awful to me. I didn't like getting knocked out most of the time or just being the mute sidekick while the path companion did all the interacting and talking.
I'd like to see famous FF weapons make an appearance instead of the characters.
Yoshida already said, no character who died in his (or her) game.
So, no Sephiroth
Lighting was here because the whole premise of the trilogy is her Quantum leaping throughout Space and Time as a Cosmic plaything. We were just a stop on the road and the Fate monsters were sent to keep her suffering in battle. Shantotto will pop in from a Warp spell gone wrong presumably because she's so powerful she accidentally overclocked it; Gilgamesh is just going to be here because he's Gilgamesh. I don't think other FF5 characters would pop in because the worlds they traveled between where just two pieces, the united whole, and the former space between the same world. FF7 characters don't have any reason (in there own game) for jumping to other realities, which is why Kingdom Hearts is not an excuse.
FF4 Characters could theoretically fly to Eorzea via the Whale ship or another false moon. FF6 is probably too busy repairing their own world. FF8 might be able to hop realities (never played, just read synopsis about traveling through space and Time loops). FF9 might too, but they'd likely be belligerant since the last alternate world they linked to was parasitic. 10 and 12 are self contained.
Although Lightning appearing is a cross promotion to hopefully sell some copies of 13-3 lore wise you can pull this off as she is travelling through time and different dimensions / worlds. Cloud showing up randomly one day would not make any sense from any standpoint of story telling and as much as XII has a huge fan base this would just be pandering and a bad idea. You can take other elements from XII and it works just fine such as the casino but random introduction of characters would be silly for the sake of being silly.
I still think a Kingdom Hearts event where you help Sora lock Eorzea's keyhole would be cool :p It doesn't break any of the rules they laid out either. Might be a bit of a stretch though.
If we don't have Celes Chere appearing as a Garlean General enlightening Eorzea with a Magitek Knight/Rune Knight Job; and if she doesn't bring Locke Cole along with her, I will be sorely disappointed!
Better get used to the idea - He said before you even loaded up ARR that XIV ARR will be a fan service title. We're getting a FFXI FATE and that game is 11 years old with no new expansion coming out any time soon (one just came out), so..they already kind of do what you hope they won't do.
Oh know you can't change that it will mess with the LORE!
Keyword - FANTASY
Tell you what, pick a character from ANY Fantasy or Science Fiction Story,
Like someone who has died, or who's story is over.
Movie, TV, Book, or Video Game, does not matter.
Now I want you to imagine the possibilities.
As much as I like Cloud... no. Bad idea to put characters in Eorzea just for the sake of doing it; we've had enough with Lightning, and at least she had an "excuse" to be warped here (even if the event itself hasn't been as great as it could). References to recursive FF themes, tributes like Crystal Tower, or logical characters like Gilgamesh are okay, but everything else that would fall under the pure fanservice tag shouldn't be done. At least if we want a quality game.
I'm against any FFVII crossover.
Except one that gets me Tifa's outfit. That I'm ok with.
Judging by the lightning fate that they added... Please do not bring cloud or sephiroth into FFXIV:ARR. Additionally, do not bring lightning back as well.
FYI: I love FFVII but Cloud/sephiroth deserve a much more in depth and actual content than what the lightning fate entailed.
