Game's RNG seems whack

I sometimes wonder if they weighted books higher because there were lots of primal weapons in circulation for the other classes from 1.0. But that would only apply to legacy servers, so I'm curious if non-legacy servers see books dropping like crazy from those primals too.

Titan doesn't seem to have that bias, which would make sense, there were no titan weapons in circulation... did 11 Titan HM kills last night and didn't see a single book (from memory think it was 2 pld shield, 2 mrd, 2 whm, blm, mnk, drg, 2 brd weapons).

But really who knows, RNG is RNG, and Book drops... well... it's all academic.

It's the same with DPS. Sometimes you get string of high damage crits, and sometimes you look like a sucky player, cause your DPS is abysmal, from successive low damage attacks.
But in most cases it seems the strings of fail hit you far more often than strings of success. So RNG is rarely in your favor.

that doesn't account for Spear dropping 2 times from Ifrit, once from Garuda, 0 times from titan, in 100-200 primal fights. Or where there that many spears circulating, that they felt to gimp the drop rate that much? :)

It's been mentioned by so many people on different boards and sites that I'm inclined to think that the algorithms bug out and make long strings of unlikely successes happen in succession, and vice versa unlikely failures occur in succession, and that the problem doesn't fix itself until the conditions are "reset," either by using a new gathering node or starting a new synth. It's almost always a case of extremes. For example, it seems like after your first failure, the frequency of failure amps up considerably. On nearly every attempt. Of course that's what makes it hard to test: random is random, but I'm wondering if Steady Hand/II bugs out after a failure and then no longer counts, and vice versa, if after a stream of successes, it bugs out and makes the success near 100%.

And we absolutely know random is random, it's just that this happens with alarming regularity to so many people that it's becoming a statistical near-impossibility. *Something* is not right. :p

Read my post. They already admitted one random number generator wasn't functioning properly. They all use the same system. Is it much of a stretch that some of the others might not be?

RNG in this game is very strange. Sometimes mining I'll hit 6 straight at a low %, but then at 95% I'll miss 4 or 5 in a row. It sorta evens out overall and I find it very wacky at times.

Drops are weird. Some people might see Ifirts bow all the time and others never in a 100 times or something.

I so wish people would stop saying that, random is not random.
There are true RNG, but they are usually slow and are primarily used for cryptography, where unpredictability is more important than distribution.
Games use a pseudo RNG, where the number sequences are not really random, but rather provide good distribution of generated numbers. As long as the player can't predict the sequence this is sufficient. The sequences generated by FFXIV are not evenly distributed. SE is doing something very weird here, but as long as SE isn't providing any specific information, we can only speculate.
There's one thing is for certain though, these numbers are not random.

I've been going to coil since the second month of the release and I've only seen 1 healer piece drop.

Same, 3 months for me. But our tanks and monk are decked out. Also the invisible dragoon in our group has 2 full sets almost.

My friend's coil group has been coiling for a few weeks now and they've reported that they've mostly seen dragoon drops in coil. Are dragoon sets being weighted more heavily when it comes to coil drops? I'm wondering if it's an issue that's common amongst lots of coil groups.

Last night I missed 5 gathering attemps in a row with 85% of success rate. But last night was VERY messy for gathering, since early in the morning I was able to gather everything with a decent success rate.

Gathering, I've hit 3 HQs in a row with a 2% chance. Last night, trying to reveal a new item with a 40% (due to buffs) it took 8 attempts. Missing 7 in a row with a 40% success chance is around 2-3% but this seems pretty common when trying to reveal new items.

I believe this will be solved once 100k lalafels have been sacrificed to the RNG God.

On a similar note, a 4th meld claiming 14% success rate just took 32 tries...

See I meld with the Gambler's Crown because if facing the correct way helps with HQ rates then by George fashion will help with materia success!

It is wack. Over 2 months of doing coil runs only 2 pieces of allagan healing gear has dropped for my group and its upsetting my girl. I feel sorry for her.
