The content they're adding in 2.1 is meant to help people prepare for coil (Crystal Tower is meant to be a precursor to BC), we aren't actually getting the next set of coil until at least 2.2 (unless stated otherwise) so in reality you'll most likely still be trying to do coil when 2.1 rolls around.
It's a shame you aren't on my server :/ My husband and I host pug coils every weekend. We specifically ask for people with little/no experience in coil (but *DO* screen for gear, ilvl avg.70).
Once we have our group together, we take a few minutes and ask everyone to watch a strat video just to make sure everyone will know what we're talking about when strategy discussions need to be had.
Some might call us stupid for doing this. However, we've found it relatively successful. Not only are we helping people that would normally not have the opportunity to go otherwise (like OP) we're also helping people learn at least the first turn or two. And in return, they are helping us in the same way.
Not all runs are fabulous success stories, as you can imagine. Nevertheless, it's a learning experience for all, and our groups generally do pretty well.
My point? You could organize something like this, OP. At least for a while until you find a group you like or until you feel you're experienced enough to join those more hardcore groups. What can it hurt? At least you'd be getting in there as soon as you'd like.
Never tell anyone it's your first time. If you've watched a Youtube video you're experienced. If you do something retarded on the run and die/cause a wipe then you lagged. That's how most people roll.
Just friggin talk to people. Run a few AK/WP or primals with them to show them you're not a tard. Make an LS, invite people to it. Whatever. Make friends. Eventually, these friends will wanna do coil. And they'll wanna bring their friends with them. Boom. Coil group. Don't lie about having done it before. That's a dick move. I've been up front about my experience, and had no trouble getting a group for anything.
You run up to someone and immediately get in their face with TAKE ME TO COIL NOW LOLOL of course they're gonna tell you to sod off. Or the group is gonna probably gonna suck. (Though those can be good for getting your feet wet.) It's a social game. Be social.
Study the fights. Watch some videos. Don't say you are new. Then, you won't have this problem.
I've seen people, right before the last boss in Turn 1, or 2, that they declare they are new, but we're so far into the dungeon that they are not going to be kicked. In fact, they are usually helped by the group. The fight strategy is explained and most of the time, about 98%, the run is smooth.
The only real solution is to find a static group, or create one yourself.
Lie~! Don't ever say it's your first run when it comes to groups like this. And if you screw up, blame it on lag. xD
BTW, I've seriously never done that, I just know someone who does and found it hilarious. xD
Watch a couple videos if you can but I think that's a bit silly. The best way to learn is to experience it first hand.
Coil is causing all kinds of issues by design atm.
You have 3 possible options to do for coil.
1) Pugs want specific things only due to certain jobs being able to perform better at known strategies. So if you are not that job you are less desirable to shout groups.
2) Static based Guilds (Those that run with permanent set groups). IF you join one and are not in the group you will be sitting out alot.
3) Guilds that are not running static groups (those that are more rotating people to get everyone involved). If you are not on a key job you will still have times you cannot get into the groups due to not having a perfect division of 8.
The lowman with lockout scenario makes every possible situation bad honestly. Content is just poorly designed. It is 90% the devs fault these issue happen about 10% of the community in my opinion.
My suggestion to the OP is simple. If you are going the pug route. Simply lie about having experience, because without doing that you will not get into anything over those with experience. The community is utter garbage in XIV atm outside guilds. Just watch as many videos as possible and ask the person running the group what strat they are running.
Create a group yourself. Shouldn't be too hard. Also, try getting your FC or LS help for coil. PuGing is doable, but its difficult to always find a decent group every week if you do it this way.
From SE's track record:
-Crystal Tower will be in 2.0, didn't happen
-Housing will be in 2.0, didn't happen
-Player housing will be in 2.1, not gonna happen
-New Content every 4 months, guess what if 2.1 is launching in December its 5 months
I say Greywizaqrd is just being pessimistic, not lying.
8/27 -12/27 is 5 months?
august to october - 1
October - November - 2
November - December - 3
-_-
Lie and say you're experienced. Good chance there will still be someone worse than you and you can probably pull off the lie unless you forget that you're lying and go "What's an ADS?"
Because you're not an elitist like them!
Because everyone knows you need full Allagan to do Sastasha!
Watch some videos on youtube and then lie about it.
Edit- op I just looked you up. I can see why no one wants a tank without any EXP but if you lie and watch some vids you will be fine.
Off tank POV turn 1- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inRWKi2R9Ms if you are main tank you just have to hold ADS an then there are a bunch of videos of Caduceus fight.
good suggestions here, but also... Put on your shield (not even sure why as a pld you would ever have it unequiped) and get rid of the dps ring (run AK and get the hoplite ring for tanking). Anyone who looks you up on lodestone is immediately going to think you are a noob who has no idea how to play your class based on those 2 things. As well as without those on, you don't even have the requisite accuracy for coil.
pugged it fron t1 - t4 and man ppl way too much exaggerating coil difficulty
beaten all 4 without communication program and with pug group and im PS3
the only challenge is in t5
You beat it only because people know the fights already. Try to pug coil with everyone not knowing the fights and no communication, you won't get anywhere. The only reason you can go from 1-4 with a pug is because the content is old and a lot have experience with it now.
Yeah, i call bs. Beating turn 4 with 6 first timers and no communication will not happen. I doubt you'd even beat turn 2. Hell, i seriously doubt a good tank on ps3 will be able to properly handle OTing the ads in phase 6 of turn 4, you have to kite them while facing in spamming flash. And target each one and build agro before they destroy the healers. We had a ps3 tank and it was so unreliable to try and get them all that we had him MT the dreadnaughts since they're easier to pick up.
Coil is designed to be challenged with ilvl 80 and a few 90 pieces, doing it with ilvl70 requires flawless execution. Even for turn 1.
While i'm sure a pug with experienced people using voice chat might get to turn 4 and down it. A pug with 0 experience, ilvl70 and no voice chat -- for anyone who has beaten turn 4, i'm pretty sure you'll realize how ludicrous that sounds.
If you think pugging titan is hard, turn 4 makes titan look like a walk in the park.
Turn 4 is a massive dps check; as a tank, being able to hold agro for the dps required, is a big tank check. Phase 5 and especially 6 are a big heal check as well on top.
@OP, Sorry for your distressful situation.
You don't have to worry too much, not everyone is a prick as you might believe. I haven't done Coil yet and I might run into something like this.
I'd just Black List them all.
if i remember correctly the world first who beat t4 were full ilvl70
all i wanted to share is coil is not challenging as many ppl were exagerrate it
well believe it or not it doesnt matter voice chat is not really required
maybe in t5
but i might prove it not needed there too
btw t4 more like DPS check rather than boss fight
Your achievements only show you've successfully mapped turn 1 and they were updated today.
