I heard at least one report of someone getting the Insufficient gil message spam while in Dragonhead - with no market board nearby. Obviously I've no proof this really happened, but I recommend for everyone to store their cash in their retainers ASAP.

No, you can still be logged in game, but if someone has remote access to your computer, they can see what's on your screen and send keyboard and mouse input to your game window while you are afk and not paying attention.

It is easier to transfer gil through marketplace while they are in the market/by the retainer bell than to add someone to friend list, and run to the delivery moogle. I don't see how farfetched that is considering RMT have been trading gil this way through other items like the allagan pieces.

Or for poor people like me just hope SE fixes it soon lol

Except that's not what's happening. People are actively playing, doing things such as crafting. You can not use the market board while doing so, yet they're still getting hit by this.

This person wasn't afk and got the Insufficent gil message. He was logged in and not afk.

Anyone who has been gilhacked running a security token/app? (not being judgemental)

If we can discern a way to protect ourselves (ie. by remaining informed) we won't have to rely on SE's ham fisted attempts to protect us - even if that means the lesser of two evil's (the broken security token/app).

Damage Mitigation?

Fix this SE before FC chests are next on the hit list.

Any if you got that messenge even at Dragonhead. Could it mean, they have some way of cloning you and telling the server you are buying and selling stuff.

People losing gil once. OK SE kind of had to do it.
People losing gil twice.. Getting pissed off.
People losing gil 3rd time. They will not put effort into the game knowing anything they do will be gone tomorrow.

sound like it might be a buffer overflow.. they are actually buying your marketboard items but overflowed the amount so it went negative?

Welp it can't be backdoor remote access because this is happening live while still in game. People are sitting there watching live message popping up saying insufficient gil. The only option while having remote access and still go undetected is by disabling a feature where the mouse and keyboard is not synced with the victim. Even then you'll be able to see them move your character. This is obviously a hole in the game and/or security flaw through server.

Can anyone confirm that this happened to any PS3 players?

pretty sure if they're ip sniffing the platform doesn't matter.

Seeing that:

• Lag and latency issues are evidently a huge problem, more felt than in any other AAA MMORPG on the market (even compared to cheap F2P titles), to the extent that it ruins the fun for many players;
• Datacenter/SQL security seems to be direly flawed, to the extent of massive hacking almost to an unprecedented level (no less than 380 billion gils generated out of thin air within a month, as reported by SE; and now this retainer bell hack; among many other issues);

this game may have the worst network programming ever for a MMORPG made by a major studio/publisher.

It's really sad, because on other aspects (gameplay, class design, 3D artistry, music, lore, scenario…), the game is arguably good to excellent when compared to other titles.

With Electronic Arts and Activision, Square Enix is one of the biggest companies in the gaming industry; they have a financial power to hire talents and fund projects that most others don't even dream of. How can such a huge company as SE not have some of the best network programmers in the world? How can their network team fail so big on the key aspect of a game, namely the network coding of the reboot of their flagship Massively Multiplayer Online RPG; no less than a Final Fantasy canonic title, their most valuable IP?

Mind-boggling. :confused: Such a shame. :(

Yes, a member of my FC had an insuffient gil message pop when they were not in a transaction or market screen - in other words the transaction was attempted behind the scenes without any interaction by the player - and they are on PS3.

Emergency Maintenance about to happen, I assume to fix this issue, will start in 55 minutes.

So I got hit too, but twice. Ran to retainer to stash what I had left, but now that's gone, unless they ninja'd it as I was putting it on retainer somehow. :( Zero gil on both characters.

It's utterly baffling how low RMTs will go to steal hard-earned money from legitimate players.

I'm deeply hoping Square Enix does whatever it possibly can to fix this issue so as to protect us. I hadn't had this happen to me, but I totally empathize with the players who were affected by this. That so totally sucks and I hope Square is willing to compensate you in some way for your stolen funds.

Don't worry, after today's maintenance SE will ban all players that has too much gills on their hand (this include hackers, + legit players) just like before. Of course with no refunds :)

Thanks, I've advised my FC members to steer clear of zones with market places for now.

so far this is what I find on my server Behemoth

1 beastkin blood sold 5 mil
1 bone chip sold 3 mil
1 bat wing 300k

what cheap things is being sold on your server and what price.

On Behemoth, I saw a retainer named Supermarketsweep selling normally cheap things for millions. Beastkin blood, bone chip, bat wing, and eye drops are all that I've seen going for millions before the servers went down.

Um....almost everyone in my FC who was online just got booted, and then I did too. Seems there is a major problem ongoing, If you are still logged in, I would sugest getting off the game ASAP. until they can fix this.

Never mind, they just took the worlds down - ALL of them.

I hope they fix this and reinburse the gil lost.. I only lost 1 million compared to other players who lost more, but I worked hard for it all the same and it was all I had lol.. ><

Ok I figured out the problem. Your retainer has a shopping problem so they steal your gil and run off to the marketboards. The security camera caught them down at macy's spending your hard earned gil on some overpriced nighty outfit. Fire them at once.

(all jokes aside, this is not a hacker, this is a bug. Think logical, your retainer has both access to your gil and the marketboard... this is why banks and auctions are always two differant NPC's in most games.)

Spotted the following retainers putting items up on market for anywhere between 500,000 to 10,000,000 gil on Behemoth world.

Celena
Nawana
Fhayde
Trayvon
Supermarketsweep

All of the items (Animal Hide, Beastkin blood, & Bone chip) had recent 5 million gil transactions, & confirmed with one of the people in the sales history that he lost 5mil to the message "Insufficient Gil."

I sincerely hope you aren't serious.

Now this has me worried. I spent a long time in the gridania market area around the retainer bell right around the time people are reporting this happened. Sorting my inventory and getting rid of some junk. I even had some random person /tell hello to me. I didnt even pay attention to my gil before getting booted for maintenance.

How a game can have such godawful security is beyond me, especially considering SE has 10+ years of experience with MMOs. I honestly have no words, please, please try to defend this somehow, I need the entertainment and cheap laughs.

I know this is irrelevant to the actual report, but I think after this I'm going to feel more furious for every gil spammer that spams me.

Hey, they can't sell you anything if they don't make you poor first.

They removed a lot of the checks in 1.0 to reduce the server latencies. I guess they removed too much.
