Jesus, people - Stop whining already! Yoshi already said that with the new server architecture and engine for 2.0 there will be no lag anymore. I mean, come on, in the year 2013 where even F2P BS can do this better this should be a cakewalk for a company like Square Enix. iirc this also is their 3rd MMO game.

Everyone needs to learn to pre-dodge and you will be fine...if you don't know the plumes are coming...then you are going to die...plain and simple. I wish the game played like it is suppose to but...this is what we have to deal with so we have no choice at the moment. If you cannot remember the moves make a cheat sheet and tape it to your T.V. or Monitor.

Looks like no look-ahead prediction on player position. So the server doesn't know if a player at any given instant, is standing still or on the move.

They then probably had to increase the position poll time interval to avoid having people rubber banding all over the place just because we all have different latencies.(?)

One thing led to another and it became a colossus of a patchwork job.

Perhaps? I'm not a network engineer. But I'd be very interested in some informed guesses. Just out of curiosity sake. :3

well if you can fire off esuna while constantly running, then even if you pre-dodge there is still a chance to get hit by plumes as the server have absolutely no idea where you are and if you are running or not XD

My Esuna works like that yet i can still dodge fine.

I have Fibre Optic internet and I get the exact same issue, People need to stop being so damned adament about pre determing Plums on Titan because this is not how a game should be played, Also never had or continue to have any of these Position problems with any other online games New or Old, Also my equipment has been tested and looked at as has my Husbands it's all fine and runs everything else perfectly it's only FFXIV we have the Character Position Updates issues with.

Tired with these threads and the whole it doesn't affect me so you have to learn to pre dodge noob comments because your all idiots for accepting shoddy connections /rant off.

Honestly..
I have 100/10mbps connection and I can cast Esuna while auto-run. I don't know how fast internet do you think people need to play online games without getting constantly annoyed by it, but I think mine should be fast enough. Of course I live in Finland, which obviously means I have over-seas connection, BUT
It also seems to happen to people on the other side of the Atlantic-Ocean as well.

And if it really were the case that Europeans are practically unable to play this game due the server distance, that'd be pretty dumb from SE's side.. They'd just kill one huge market area.

You shouldn't need to predict his moves. You are needing to though, purely because of the lag. The fight itself is really pretty easy, but it's being made difficult by the fact that all players are playing with 1-2 second lag with the server.

The way the fight likely was designed, was so that when something like plumes appear, you could just move away, rather than needing to start moving away before or the exact moment the plumes appear.

Dev's from Japan should be forced to use duty finder alone on a NA/EU server.... and run Titan HM till they are willing to admit camera angles aren't going to save shit.

In the beta spells were more prone to failure if you got hit or barley moved at all. The movement part was fine but the interrupts while getting hot were horrible and made caster's extremely hard to play and solo anything. So they tweaked spells to what you see in the video. I think it's not related, the same thing happens to me but I can dodge everything.

Same comment was made by fanboys during Beta P3, they even kept saying this bs even after Yoshi-P himself admitted there was a problem and said it was going to be fixed before P4.

I do not know the whole networ code, but why they programmed the position-square-grid in a 3sec pattern?
With other words: every 3sec you update your position.

Isnt it better to base the position-square-grid on yalme?
With other words: if you pass a 3y pattern the position will be updated.

To show other solutions to this: Why not making it skill or event based?
With other Words: Instead of a square-grid to update your position it uses the global cooldown and updates before/after each skill of players AND enemies.

Same here.. if i escape AoEs by a glimpse itll work, if not its cause i was too slow, yes there is a small delay(you can start moving about .5 second before the end of your casts) but that is easy to work with and is almost useful.

Well I'm playing from the UK with high speed fibre optic internet and even story mode Titan was a nightmare for me, Landslide took me out first time, every time. I watched videos to see if I was doing something wrong (I wasn't) and completely re-organised my HUD and keybind layout and ended up coming to the conlusion that it was unfair of me to even try on WHM as it was condeming the party to failure. I leveled BLM in the end and as luck would have it, finally got no lag and dodging Landslide was easy

The problem is clearly lag, I played CoD for years and it suffers from exactly the same problem, Activision have got into a whole new mess with their lag compensation measures trying to combat it and have so far just made it worse

I'm not claiming to be great at this game but I've played MMO's for years and can more than hold my own on hair trigger games like CoD so it really did surprise me when I had to jump backwards through hoops just to complete a mid level story mode boss

So here's the thing:

Most, not all, but most people who die on Titan runs die simply due to their own inexperience/lack of skill on the battle. Nothing more nothing less. How I know this is true? Because once they do enough attempts/learn the battle timing...all the sudden they don't die all the time anymore and tend to stay alive and win most if not all attempts.

For Lag to be to sole cause of 'Titan Deaths'....then these players would never be able to be consistantly successful in this battle. So while it is true, that Lag does make some of the content far more challenging for some players then others (and the 'fairness' of this could be debated), player skill/knowledge is actually a much larger part of the problem.

So server latency isn't the main issue, player skill is.

Not latency and not skill. It is about learning the rotation so you can do what the game should tell you, before it tells you.

All this would be solved by the red circles appear earlier, which means the attacks triggering slower. It still is the same amount of "skill" involved, you just have more time to do it. But SE seem terrified some elitists will yell easy-mode and quit.

Like we even need any players who think no latency = skill.

While this issue isn't game breaking for me as ive managed to clear content so far with no issues, I noticed a few things:

-PS3 version seems the worst with this issue, my friend plays on PS3 and even though I'm kind of expert at titan *eye twitch* I died a lot after dodging attacks with significant time in advance, I did tests in pingtest.net with Grade A results.

-My brother and I play on the same room, I can see both his screen and mine at the same time, and once we were playing on AK recently I noticed the huuuuge time it takes for his actions and mine to show up on both screens, for example, I moved from point A to point B and on his screen it would happen about 2 seconds later, while for some reason his movements appeared reflected on my screen nearly on real time, mind you same exact connection, same CPU, Motherboard same everything with the exception of video card, he has a GTX Titan and I have a R9 280x, so it really doesn't make sense.

But I can dodge Titan plumes because of my amazing skills that allow me to move before the plumes drop so everything your saying has to be working as intended.

On a related note, every time I see the first boss in WP cast that circular attack that does the reduced immunity damage/effect, I already start casting Esuna on the player. Most of the time, that player simply can't get out of it in time. Either the circle is too wide or the timer is too short, but that attack is unforgiving. Any healer who's run that enough times can vouch for the imbalance in doge:not-dodged ratio there.

You don't need massive bandwidth to play ffxiv smoothly, you just need a stable connection, and i don't mean stable to your ISP, stable all the way to ffxiv's server.
The issue is, and some don't realize, that the data from your pc to ffxiv servers don't just go through your ISP, the data gets passed along from your ISP to backbone carriers to other IPS etc etc. Each of those hand offs have to be stable, one packet drop and you and ffxiv's server aren't seeing eye to eye.

If everyone with Titan lag issue would do a constant trace route to their ffxiv server
they would find a hop that's dropping their packets, might even be multiple places that's doing it

and if you find that your route is completely stable and you're still getting lag?
Well my friend that would be your computer's own latency.
The minimal sys req that ffxiv gives doesn't quite cut it.
Case in point I have 2 systems:
1- i7 gtx660 ssd
2 -athlon hd6790 ssd and old lcd (5+ years old)

on the same network, wired gigabit
system 1 flawless I fought titan for the first time on this system without knowing patterns, i just followed ppl and dodged stuff, no issues (win too!)
system 2 constant issues with titan, always .5+ second lag, plumes always the plumes!

system 2 upgraded gfx card and monitor, wow look at that no more lag. i can prance around titan all day!

so in closing,
it's probably not your fault
it's probably not your ISP's fault
it's probably not SE's fault, because if it was lag on SE's severs wouldn't EVERYONE have an issue?
it's probably a provider's fault throttling your connection or dropping your packets

what to do to fix it?
simply, i don't know. call and hound the isp that's dropping your packets? call and hound your isp to hound the isp that's dropping your packets? write your congressmen? flame the isp that's dropping your packets on every social media outlet you know?

in any case, i wish all the ppl with lag issues the best of luck. I know i'd be uber pissed if i were playing this game with horrid lag and Titan kept murdering me to the ground

It's the ISP. Notice how all the other players are skipping around? The problem with FF14, is that the minimum internet speed requirement is too low. The problem is that the player's ISP isn't downloading the information fast enough. I had that happen once before too and I had to reset my router and then it ran flawlessly again. My friend has horrible ISP and other players are always skipping around and he experiences constant lag. To play FF14 right, you need at least 18 MPS internet however the game will allow much lower.

Trust me - the minimum internet speed requirements are set too low. For those complaining about lag - you're lucky you can even log in. Other characters should not be skipping around (they should be moving fluid). If you are seeing players move around, it's your own internet.

If you're simply permanently 1 second behind the server, some players are still good enough to dodge stuff. That doesn't mean it should be normal to expect to be permanently 1 second lagged. In FF14 you're about 0.3-0.6s permanently lagged depending on how good you're at memorization, but this is still an unacceptable range of lag for a modern MMORPG. Now if you only have to work with a 0.3s handicap you ought to be able to dodge everything if you're relatively decent, but even then there's no reason to put up with this kind of unreasonable lag that does not exist in any other game.

Yep, I've noticed this too. I used to wonder why the hell no one would ever dodge it as I'd be Esuna-ing them every battle, then it finally did it to me and I saw there is just no dodging it. I'd say this one is actually probably worse than Titan, it's just that nobody cares as it is on such an easy battle. But it does show the sort of problems that are there throughout the game.

I can vouch for this. :) There's something really funky going on with that one attack he does. It's almost like the aoe is bigger than what the circle shows it to be. I've given up trying to evade it and just start casting Leeches about a second after the aoe circle appears. I don't know if it's lag or not, but for example in Titan HM I can reliably avoid landslide, etc. So I think that goobbue attack is just really odd. :confused:
