If so, do you remember what Tam-Tara was like back then? There's significant portions of that map that we currently never go to, but they're still there. Who's to say hard mode on our current dungeons won't also mean different paths?

But to the users what counts is rarely mentioned in public: concurrency.

Concurrency is the number of people simultaneously logged in. Very few MMOs top 100,000 average on this. The highest ever publicized in the west was 450,000 for Guild Wars 2 during their launch week. WoW claims a highest ever of 425,000.

It is hard to say what concurrency is here... Max is 344,000 - something very few MMOs have ever done. More or less, that puts this MMO in the same 'huge in the west' space WoW and GW2 are in. But that was last month. Sales are going insanely strong, so its logical to assume that concurrency has not dipped by much, and might even be stabilizing near that max. Given how many login problems there were at launch, and how sales were frozen when that 344,000 figure was taken, it is even possible that it might have since gone up... (speculation).

1.5 millions registered, probably 1 million active paying for one month, and out of those 1 millions, at least 200k are bots and RMT lol. The game would probably stabilize around 500k-750k paying subscribers, and would fluctuate between new patches. As it is now, a very solid single player FF experience with some online components throw in. Definitely not worth paying $15 bucks month every month every month....

I think you're a bit confused. There's a press release coming directly from Square Enix Japan saying that the patch is scheduled for December.

Free hint: Bot accounts are *also* an indication that the game is healthy and growing. Gold sellers aren't going to create bots in a game where they'll have no one to sell to.

Now can they keep a retention rate of around 47%-50% . That might be there hardest part though. They would need better customer service and So everyone was able to pay for there monthly fees. That would be around 750k users paying a month and that would be impressive. They always said they only needed a avg of 500k paying subscriptions a month to profit. 750k users paying monthly would be a impressive number for a subscription base mmo now days.

I think they did amazing job in creating a very solid package for first timer. You can play it as "offline" FF with a few online components on your first play through. It's when you have to repeat the experience, the game starts to fall apart. By patch 2.5 this game should be solid. It's one of those game that is best to experience for a month or two at a time, take a break for a couple of months and come back whenever they put out their big patch.

Bit further off than I was hoping but that's nice regardless. Excited for new dungeon content.

I would say the game is solid now. As a matter of fact, more solid than anything else the MMO market offers at the moment. It has flaws here and there, but most of them are apparent only to the vast minority of people that grind for 12 hours a day, seven days a week. Which makes them semi-irrelevant.

I've been playing since the PS3 beta started on phase 3. Maybe you're right about opening new paths, but they haven't said anything like that. They simply addressed the different difficulties being added.

Sadly, there are plenty of areas we can't explore in RPGs, despite them existing, because they are simply there for padding.

Once you do cheap business tactics such as giving out mounts/pets/costumes/fantasia for subbing for 90 days you lose the ability to publish how many subscriptions you have.

You're clearly so afraid of people unsubbing after the free 30 days or not subbing past 1 month that you need to give incentive for them to keep subbing to stall them for you to create new content. Pretty pathetic.

I'd personally like to know how many people log on per week, and for how long per week.

You do realize you don't need to sub for 3 months at a time to get the items, right? Sure, if you want them right away and are completely IMPATIENT, sure. Otherwise, if and when you get to the 2/3 month mark, you'll automatically receive the items. At any point before that, you can quit. If SE was saying "you have to pay for 3+ months at a time as the only way to receive these bonus items" I would say you have a very valid point. That's not the case.


Obviously if someone wants the vanity items they plan on playing the game for a while. I know if I didn't enjoy the game, vanity pets/mounts wouldn't mean anything to me since I wouldn't be planning on subscribing in the first place.

I just find it interesting this article says Dec when Yoshi stated late Nov still.

Excalibur is packed with newer faces and server transfers I am not worried. I doubt FF14 will tank anytime soon. I hate threads that waste my time. =/

Have to see, most MMOs that don't suck totally on release do well for around 3-4 months (trial + 3 month sub)....after that is the true test.

SWToR was like that...had amazing numbers up until the 3-4 month mark then most the pop bailed including me.

THIS THIS THIS. Until we hit the half year/year mark with those numbers, there ain't no reason to bring em up. Right now the game still is in the "new game smell" for a lot of people still. If at the end of a years time they have retained these numbers or even grown THEN you may crow if your a fanboy /white knight not two months in.

December has NOT been confirmed to be the launch of 2.1

But SE has said Winter 2013. For Japan that could be either November or December.

considering how big a bath SE took on the flop release of FFXIV 1.0 any profit they will be seeing is not likely in the first 6 months of subs plus all the sales to date.

when it comes to PR never ever take it at its word. if the PR exec thinks telling everyone the game has oodles of new players will increase sales they will announce the game has ooodles of new players.

the only people who will ever see the real bottom line are the share holders and even thats not always true they may only see quarterlies with projections of income or losses.

Yeah but every company is run by the same type of PR guy. There's no reason to believe the PR guy in Blizzard are more likely to lie about bigger numbers than ones at SE, for example. WoW has the biggest subscription numbers not because their PR are more reckless compared to other PR guys, but that it almost certainly does have the most subs. So, claiming 1.5M is at least a decent start in terms of lying. Most games don't even dare to lie that much, though to be fair usually the lie is about the number of active subs, not registered accounts.

Man, was really hoping for November...people are gonna burn out on this game, if they haven't already.

Yeah as much as I love doing coils now there is only so much I can do before I get bored out of my mind. Making pretty good progress on turn 5 so far so we can expect to have it done in probably 2-3 weeks max then back to bordum :P. Ah well I can just take a break then and come back when 2.1 releases.

That's why nobody is playing it and they gave it bad reviews again and was consider another failure.

Oddly enough, it feels like a lot less people are playing.

This is going to be a cyclical thing. People will complete content two months into the quarter, let their sub expire, then when new content is added, subs will spike again. SE made it easy to do it that way by stating that progress will never be wiped when subs expire. They know some people will progress faster than others and get bored. So the important thing (to them) was to make it easy to come back whenever you want to.

That's why the servers still have plenty queues and it received glowing reviews by basically every outlet that counts something, right?
