Why do people keep saying this?
1) Square Enix never said that a world transfer fee is intended to DISCOURAGE people from using it
2) The only reason a fee exists is because they want to make money. You think a measely $25 is going to stop RMTs or people who "rip off FCs"?
A toon... lol
That wasn't the issue. The 'necessary thing to do for everyone' argument is a slippery slope that can be used to justify just about anything. The issue is that players already fork over a substantial sub each month, and creating an automated transfer system isn't exactly rocket science. There's a lot more at work here than simply funding the service and getting a reasonable profit. It pretty much boils down to gouging players in the name of server stability, so for SE it's an easymode fix while players get the short end of the stick.
Ikr, my head just about exploded. I this term dies sooner than later, lol.
I think it's funny when people say the price is high "because RMT" or because "so you don't transfer every day". lol
The price is high because SE is a business and they want more money like any business do. While I don't think I'll ever need to spend money on a transfer, I don't like to see that so-called "Mog Station" become a money milking system in a disguise, and it slowly turning into that ( > . >
I agree that as a P2P game, make the stuff cheap or or make it an in-game feature, but fans will buy anything today so why would they do that? Would just mean more money is lost for them. Today's games make 100% content and release only 70% of it while making the other 30% of it "DLC" and making people pay more for it, people don't see these marketing methods and are blindly agreeing and buying it. And now all games are following that... Just sad to see that but it's the gamers who lose at the end of the day.
I never played a game where transfers were free go cry somewhere else.
No, it won't stop all of them. There will always be people with more money than brains that simply don't care.
And of course it'll always be a means of escape for the shady players.
But for everyone else it's a consideration if transfering might actually be a good idea, and if so, also make them think about what world to go to.
That said I'm actually also hoping for another restriction, the once every 90 days one they also maintained in FFXI.
Transfer didn't work out? Have fun for the next 3 months.
Thank you, this one made my day.
I like it when people rage over the toon thing. It lets me know who just started playing MMO's recently.
lol Toon
25$ seems to be streamline. If I remember correctly, SWTOR charges about the same amount.
As for the term "toon", it sounds awkward and wrong to me. I have nothing against the people who like it, but I prefer calling my character a character. And yes, I'm aware "toon" is old school but that doesn't change my opinion.
To stay on topic: My world transfer seemed automated. So it's 25$ for an automated system to run. Also, I don't think ripping people off is justified because other companies do it as well. I see a lot of people condoning things just because other companies do it.
Hm - I didn't see any announcement other than it starts Monday. Where did people get the $25 cost from?
I knew before clicking the thread that a solid portion of replies would be people upset over toon because "mommy called my action figure a doll".
In present days, the people that have time and money to subscribe in MMORPG are the people do not worry about money. Probably spend a lot on iphone, ipod and many other luxury stuffs. You are here, whinning about an optional services that set at a price of $25?
Why is 25$ to high? I did some checking, the dollar is about on par with the yen. So 25$ is a few gallons of gas, a couple of packs of cigarettes, or a movie ticket and a drink, and maybe a popcorn depending on where you live. Why are people bitching? Just stop buying that starbucks for a few days or something and chill out! You got 5 free days to transfer, did you expect SE to do it for free forever? Time is money. Yeah maybe one trained monkey is all is needed to move the information to another server, but you have rent to pay on the building that houses the monkey, electricity to run the computers the monkey uses, a manager to guide the trained monkies and so on. Twenty-five dollars is reasonable.
I don't have any iDevices or even a smartphone. I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination and in fact only have a part time job. For me, subscribing to an MMO is in lieu of buying more non-MMO games. The price of a world transfer to me is inconsequential because I don't need to use it and will never use it.
So just saying, playing a subscription (or even playing a free one) MMO doesn't necessarily make statements about the player's income.
You pay for the service you need nevertheless. It is an optional service and its charge is set at $25, in which is the same for all gaming companies. Again, why are you compalining? Taxi is an optional service I choose to have when there is subway. Are you saying that I can just tell taxi driver that he charges too much for a ride?
Where does it say that o-o?
Should charge $1,000 when someone refers to it as a toon transfer!
We could argue if the fee is about RMT-prevention or good ol' fashion greed, or we could just accept the basic reality of economics and markets: SE is offering an optional service which requires resources and labor hours, and, accordingly, they are charging a fee for it.
o.o Didnt think they would get popular. Thought I would get flammed (Which I have. BTW, they are pretty funny) and this thread would be lost forever.
I think it's a fair price.
You can not transfer toons over to FFXIV.
xD lol
It is not the word "toon" itself, it is the fact that "toon" is a WoW-Term and sorry to burst your bubble, but this is not WoW. And indeed... an action figure is not a doll and a Car is not a Truck and Yellow is not Green.Quote:

People really do look for anything possible to complain about on these forums.
Look at it this way: time is money. Which of these will take more of your time?
1. Level up fresh on a new server and get the fresh character to the state of the one you wanted to transfer.
2. Earn the $25 it costs to transfer the character you already have.
I'm betting that for most people, earning the $25 for the transfer will be the most efficient method.
Lol people were forced to play on other servers because of initial congestion and over capacity issues, and they aren't offering free transfers? What a joke.
I'll take a stab at it.
Transfers require SE work, not only in ensuring your transfer, but making sure their databases are not corrupted. The price is set to make some money but also discourage people from jumping from one server to another because it's only 5 bucks. If it was easy and didn't require work, SE would love to have a bunch of people transfer so they get money. But I think they're looking at this the other way, a lot of transfers at a low price would cost them money.
This is my assumption.
High prices are to discourage server transfers, not to make a quick buck.
Seriously, just stick to a server.....
Sorry to burst your bubble, but "toon" is just as much a WoW term as is "raid", "dungeon", "LFM", "PVP", "PVE", "party", etc. It was around prior to WoW, in other online games, just like these other terms. But, the newbies just aren't aware of that fact. You're welcome for the history lesson :)
On topic, $25 is pretty standard in most games and completely fair ♥
$25 is absurdly high for this service, and it was in XI's days too.
Servers transfers should be free. Add a big cooldown if you want to avoid abuse or market speculation. Yeah it gives a bit more money to SE, but there are not gameplay reason for that fee to exist. It's an hassle and we are loosing players because of this.
A friend of mine missed the 5 day transfers because his account wasn't subscribed at the time. He is now stuck in another server. Of course, he dropped the game instead of playing alone or paying $25.
We are in 2013. Most players are not long-term customers anymore. They are short term, jumping from MMO to MMO and coming back whenever new content is released. Those players won't pay $25 to come back with a friend for two months. And they can't really reroll, since in this game not rerolling is heavily favored. This is not a nice situation for returning players, and the first wave of returning players will be at 2.1, which is soon.
