You would be much better off waiting on the solid state drive. It's not a necessity. Not to mention you could save that money and go with an intel cpu. Which is a much stronger gaming chip.

Upgrading to a solid state drive isn't essential... however it will be one of the most noticeable upgrades. When you go from 40 seconds boot times to desktop to under 10 seconds you're left with this feeling of amazement.

Regardless of whether or not you trade the SSD for a HDD and what not you have to admit that build is really solid for the price range.

I simply said I liked it lol. To add, that is a GTX660ti, not a 660. The difference is pretty substantial between the two, and a GTX 760 is a -little- better at the cost of about $10 more, and thats about as good as it gets from Nvidia in that range.

On the other hand, a R9 270x I'll agree is the best in that range for price/performance ratio.

Same price eh? I would definitely get a 760 over the 660ti but it's not even close to the same price. You must also keep in mind this is a budget machine.

So instead of this thread turning into a who's dick is bigger, the point was lost pages ago with everyone fighting with each other. Fist off, a build may be better, but you need to remember what money they had/ who helped them/ the exp they had with building previously which none of you are. That said, I think people underestimate the power required to run this game at max, smoothly. It's not all that well optimized, so I find it hilarious these know-it-all's actually think a $800 machine will pull off what the OP wants. You'll get something respectable for sure, but you won't be running 60fps consistently.

Well I had given up on this thread on about page four, started it on another site and got a better response.

I did manage to get something capable of turning it max settings at 60 for around 800. 850ish to be exact, so a Lil over budget but Craigslist save me again lol

What I got buying piece by piece on Craigslist

Intel core I5 3570k with a Asus p8z77-v motherboard (bought together)
1 tb Toshiba 7200rpm hdd
8gb Kingston ram
Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 4gb sli ready
Thermalake 550w psu

OS, optical drive and tower scavenged from am old minecraft server I built

All in all I think I did good and I'm happy with it. Sill installing, downloading final fantasy but the benchmark says fully capable of running max. Thanks for the advice on the 760 card it was a good call, and the I5 over the six core amd. I'm killing the benchmark on max and I haven't even overcooked anything yet lol

OP, it's best to state what currency you'll use. 800 euros will get you a lot more than say 800 USD or Yuan.

Just to chip in. I spent about USD950 on my current machine at the beginning of this year. The key specs are:

E3-1230v2
EVGA GTX660 factory overclock
Asus H77 motherboard
120GB solid state drive
32GB RAM (I needed the extra for work, unrelated to FFXIV)
550W power supply
about $50 was spent on a new tower case.

The GTX660 is capable of running most of the game at maximum setting for a enjoyable experience.

But when I'm in a very crowded area, for example by the market during peak hours, I can sense the chat input becoming sluggish. When I chat it isn't as responsive as when I'm in a deserted area. However I think this may be a problem with FFXIV UI itself. I'm also more sensitive to these things because I work with a lot of text and editing all day.

Coming back to this setup, I wish I had invested into GTX 670. That's about all, I guess.

I found a decent cpu to be the most important. A 770 in my old machine(amd 3.2 black oc@3.6) gave decent framerates, but when I hit busy areas it would tank to 30-40. Put the 770 in with a better cpu and I now have over 60fps, even in busy situations. It's my understanding that mmo games by their nature are more cpu intensive.

Built my rig to play 1.0 payed about 1500.00 then could probably do it for 800.00 or so now

Actually built this rig to replace my g73, it was a great laptop but can't handle max settings. Does high though. I miss the flexibility of a desktop and wanna be ready for next gen. Thinking of selling it but not sure what the g73 goes for, I also paid 1200 for mine

I tried playing on max setting with the G73 and it stuttered a bit too much, so I just set them to high and it does just. Looks decent too, but not as nice as the desktop.

For anyone that DID go AMD (like I did): Windows 8.1 fixed my micro-stutters. The game runs significantly better for me since I upgraded to 8.1. I was very disappointed when my 7970 generated micro-stutters anytime I was mounted and running, but they are gone now... YAY!

Unless you're going for a very budget built, cpu wise Intel > AMD. AMD just haven't been competitive in the mid/high segment in a while.

I'm happy with built I put together, yeah some used parts but it maxes everything at 60fps in 1080p which is great on my tv, now just have to decide rather to sell my g73 or keep it for on the go gaming should I ever need to travel again

I disagree with this to an extent, since the pile driver CPU's came out I think AMD have been competitive in the mid range, a lot of people believe everything they read and like to jump on the bandwagon though, not saying you, just in general. The only place in this game that the $120 6300 will see a slight hit in performance over a $200-220 3570k is in a really crowded area like a major city where it gets really cpu intensive.

The real catch to them is if you step up to a 83XX CPU, you need a good mobo, you can't skimp on them at all so you're looking at around $200 for a good board, especially if you want to overclock then lets not talk about cooling that beast, thats a whole different story.

I like using AMD CPU's and I like overclocking AMD cpu's, there is a snappiness and feel to it the benchmarks don't tell, and it does everything I need it to do and does it well, I just disagree with intel's business practices so I won't buy thier stuff, they do own the high end segment though, no denying that.
