Yes : Don't do like the Op and throw darts at the skill tree. Focus on one stance, don't gimp yourself.

He get 221exp where i am farming
Oh! and free stance yeah its work nice but i notice that i have to switch stance from free stance to healer stance for Choco Cure. Because i was ending up at half of life without he Choco Cure me until i switch him to Healer Stance. But at free Stance he only does Choco Regen.
Ofcourse you can get other skill at other Stance but will they do it on Free Stance? Since mine dont use Choco Cure
I don't understand why people say the last rank ability is worth it either. AoE damage? Not awesome if you have mobs slept/bound or don't want more adds... can't put the chocobo in guard stance like summoner pets and there is zero ability to manually control them. AoE taunt? Unless it is way more powerful that the first tier taunt then it's worthless and again... can't turn it off so if you don't want more adds you better be very careful of your chocobo's position which is independent of your own. AoE heal? How often do you use a chocobo in a party that would need the extra heals? never. It would only be nice to be another heal that would hit you and if you were a summoner it would also hit your pet. Especially since the chocobo refuses to heal your summoner pet.. so an aoe heal (if it hits the pet) would be useful.
Mine is rank 5 and will do choco cure outside healer stance, but he seems a lot less willing to cast it and I have died from him refusing to cast it when I needed it in free stance. However, last night he seemed a lot better after the patch that also addressed Eos not healing in certain situations.
OP, how often does your bird use the healing potency buff? Curious what the hidden cooldown for it is, if any. I'm rank 7 now but stopped because last time I leveled it I damn near went insane going from lv4-7 in 24 hours. lol
BTW, to those saying bird is gimped by not dedicating it to one tree...the stances (save healer stance) really have a minimal impact on the effectiveness of the bird since they for the most part only limit the bird to using actions in that tree. For one, at 50 it has only about 2000 base HP, which is low for any job. Going completely down the tank tree to 10 will leave your bird with less than 2500 HP with way fewer defensive cooldowns than a real tank and the enmity is a joke. The DPS abilities and damage do not get substantially better as you progress down that line as well. Healer stuff is actually useful due to the way it spams but I would argue that the medica is almost completely not needed due to the fact that you'd probably want your bird over even a SCH faerie with the SCH AFK close to never making it really only useful for solo only where the extra 15% crit would be nice for its single target healing skills.
If any feedback to devs is being given from this post, I would recommend to:
1) Increase chocobo base HP to about 3200.
2) Have stances have a dramatic effect on the bird's stats (as opposed to basically being for a minor AI change now). For example, tank stance increases bird max HP significantly and increases enmity, damage taken reduced etc. DPS stance increase attack power, weapon skill hidden cooldown reduction, attack speed, and so on.
3) Ability to use while DFing and ability to do instanced content alongside them (ie, not with random people but where you and a friend could both summon birds and do some light party dungeons).
4) Actually add stuff to the open world that you would want to do at level 50 that would require your buddy. The open world right now is almost exclusively only good for leveling currently....
at the first first first video talking about chocobo. Yoshi said we could be 2 player with 2 chocobo and do dungeon. but they took it off ..sadly
and for medica .some people does farm as party to hang out .. massive killing spray without tank. Just killing the fast each have their mob. so having 1 choco on healer stance while other on free stance for dam .. medica is nice
See, my whole thing about making a hybrid is that I wanted him to have multiple attacks, but choco cure is too good to pass up. In free stance, he has choco kick, choco drop, choco slash, 30% inc crit rate, 20% increased HP, 10% increased STR, 10% increased Accuracy, 10% increased Mind, Choco Regen and Choco Cure, plus a buff to healing power. I don't know how that could possible be outdone by a chocobo with one tree focus and half those passives. I would try full healer, but that only helps for some jobs. My bird is universally useful for all jobs. Not playing darts here.
I like how they tell you none of this and instead let you stumble around for countless hours until you decide to run the numbers yourself. And I REALLY like how they don't tell you that the split second you put a point into a chocobo tree you can never reach rank 10 with any other spec.
I spent a while grinding him to 4 and all points are in defender. He can't pull aggro when I auto attack but I don't want a gimped hybrid if they do change it later.
Actually if they do change it later it will probably be like gathering. It will become trivial to grind him to r10 in one day and those who did the crazy grind don't even get a consolation prize.
If those were true, we wouldn't have any need for a Dev to post this.
Yes, there is an achievement for hitting Rank 10 in each stance.
No, your chocobo will not be as effective if you do this.
"Hybrid" builds have more abilities, greater damage potential and higher stats than "Pure Stance" builds. This is because higher rank abilities cost more SP to make them available. for the same SP cost, you can get Rank 10 in one stance, or Rank 9 in that stance plus Ranks 1-4 in a secondary stance. And gain access to ALL those abilities in "Free Stance".
If the Rank #10 abilities were jaw-droppingly good, I would agree with you. However, they are AoE abilities with mediocre Potency. You cannot trigger them manually, and the AI is notoriously bad at using AoE abilities sensibly.
In Free Stance, the AI starts trying to Cure whenever either of you drop below 50% HP. In Healing Stance, this threshold is higher (75-80%). The cures will be slightly less regular in Free Stance since it has Autoattacks and other abilities available and can be caught mid-animation whenever the Cure is back off cooldown. As a Paladin, I can reliably idle around 40%-50% HP and get regular Cures from my "Free Stance" Chicken.
You can see very clearly that this is not the case for passives by stacking multiple +HP% passive buffs from more than one stance and observing the corresponding spike in your Chocobo's HP value.
Stances make abilities and weaponskills unavailable (and in the case of Healer Stance, autoattacks unavailable) but passives stack across stances.
There's very little reason to run in anything apart from Free Stance unless you specifically want your Chocobo to act as a "Pure Healer" and not melee attack anything.
Look in the OP.
At timestamp ~5:50 he has hit Rank 10 and picks a HP boost from the Attacker Tree, his Chocobo (in Healer Stance at the time) immediately gains the benefit of it.
The OP initially has a +10% HP trait from the Defender Tree, and a +5% HP trait from the Healer Tree.
This puts him at 2235 HP (115% base if all traits stack)
So his Chocobo's base HP is potentially 2235/1.15 = 1943.478 HP
He then picks a +5% HP trait from the Attacker Tree.
This puts him at 2332 HP (120% base if all traits stack)
2332/1.2 = 1943.333 HP
Proof Positive.
-----------------------
You can even try it yourself:
Have you got any HP traits in your current chocobo, in any stance tree? (the first one is Rank #3 in each of the three trees)
Yes? Good.
Check the number on its HP bar.
Now put the chocobo into a stance that doesn't have the HP trait on its corresponding tree.
Check the number on its HP bar again.
If HP traits weren't active across stances, those would be different numbers.
wow congrats!
Is there a way to reset the points spent? Mines only rank 2 atm but wanting to know for future use.
Maelwys, thank you for intelligently destroying all the doubt in this thread. You are a gentleman and a scholar. Thanks dude!
No worries, with very few people investing heavily into Chocobo raising at the moment there's a lot of misinformation and rumor floating about!
I'm hoping for a bit of a rebalance whenever Player Housing/Chocobo Breeding is patched in and people start looking at them more closely.
I'd love to be able to trigger abilities manually via macro or equip things to boost their stats. But I'm REALLY hoping that we eventually become able to take them into certain dungeons... :D
(Also I'd say I'm more of an amateur Arcanist than a Scholar - I don't even have the Job Crystal unlocked yet...) :p ;)
Congrats! How many hours did you grind? :)
Is killing random mobs the ONLY way to earn companion experience...? No shared quest experience or anything...? Because that seems very tiresome.
Currently they consume a set percentage of the EXP from each mob you kill (so you will get slightly less exp for your own character) but they don't get any of the bonus from Quest completions, FATEs, LEVEs etc.
They do get bonuses from EXP chains, so repeatedly chaining high-level enemies is currently the quickest way to level them up (you can hit Chain4/Chain5 solo easilly but will likely need a team or carefully timed pulls and AoEs for anything higher). But yes, it still takes ages and is quite tiresome, especially if you're not used to old-style exp chain grinding like in the early days of FFXI.
I've not tested whether they get bonuses from your Rested EXP or food.
There is also a Free Company action buff named "A Man's Best Friend" that can increase the EXP earned by companions by 5%.
For starters, I never said anything about yelling at people who ruined the FATE (yes, ruined it, as in ended it early), but it's nice that you're insulting me anyways. Do you always skip to insulting random people on the internet when you're wrong?
Secondly, people were doing the FATE that way with the blessing of SE, as they said so themselves that it was working as intended. If SE says it's fine, then who are you to say otherwise? You were wrong, and SE said you were wrong.
Sure, they nerfed it now, but it's because the vocal minority cried so loudly that SE really had no choice but to nerf the FATE. Not because people were "doing it wrong", but because some people were so hellbent on trolling the community by doing the FATE "the right way" (I.E, the wrong way).
Pretty much this. SE did say so themselves that the way people were doing it was fine as is (no, I don't have a link to where). So what it came down to was people doing it the way they felt it should be done, as in killing the lambs, vs those who didn't want to kill them. When people would kill them, of course people are going to get mad! When somebody runs in and costs hundreds of people 100k+ exp because "lols i killed teh lamms", then of course you're going to get yelled at. Just because it's the way a FATE is meant to be done, doesn't mean that's how you should do it. You need to be a pretty miserable person to ruin things for everyone around you just because.
Basically, it wasn't nerfed because of the people farming the mobs (the ones NOT killing the lambs), it was nerfed because of the ones who trolled hundreds of people by killing the lambs and watching as hundreds of thousands of exp were lost. In before the "you livls fest alredy" argument by the people who kill lambs.
