FFA PVP Servers.

Given that PvP was planned to be implemented and is being worked on, you're going to face those very same concerns regardless, and not because it wasn't planned from the start. Adding a fully ffa pvp server wouldn't impact your enjoyment of the game any more than not having one, so I don't see a reason to not have it.

Oh noes, don't bring up PvP in FFXIV:Carebearland. Seriously this thread will garner naught but hate. FF fans are RPG fans not FPS fans for the most. Personally I'd love a PvP server, or even better yet, how about a duty finder PvP WORLD that you could enter and exit freely. I'm not hugely fond of arena style PvP other than that people will only run away from you temporarily. Hopefully battlegrounds proves to be large and unrestricted. In Beta I did spend some time in the Wolves Den and I liked it except for the Queue times and fact that it last at most 5 minutes and then you have to re-queue.
