I was on the Airship from Kazham to Jeuno and a GM popped up and sat next to me while I was sitting on the side of the airship. That was a fun day. He told me to try and only do it when no other players were on the ship, and that it would be fixed soon. I think after TOAU you stopped being able to do it.

We killed Valkurm Emperor out in the Water once when I was playing on PS2. That was hilarious.

It took me a few tries, mostly because I held down the movement for too long and just ran off the side.

The hints I'll give you are:
A: They're at the top in that middle area between the fences
B: There are multiple entry points from up there, one is a corner but that isn't necessarily the easiest. Everyone seems to have their own "sweet spot".

I guess that emote method works, but I haven't been in-game due to finals. I'll check on that after Tuesday unless more people want to attempt that way.

I just did it a couple of months ago, and several times post WoTG before I took a hiatus in 2008.
As far as the water in Valkurm goes, I haven't tried that since Goblin Bounty Hunters were implemented. I loved saving dunes parties from them whilst in the water.

As far as I know only the PS2 hardware allowed you to do it.

The PC, Xbox360, and XI(PS2) on a PS3 do not. The last time I tried both was XI(PS2) on PS3.

It's kind of like the ffxi airship glitch. quite easy

For some reason my current rig hates the POL Viewer and XI as soon as it connects to the internet, so I'm on 360 now. PS2 exploded years ago. I hopped the airship ledge on the PC client back in '08, and recently on the 360.

Well yeah the airship glitch was easy and so was running into the water in valkurm but if you don't know where the sweet spot to get up its incredibly difficult.
