They could probably cater to everyone here with the job system. Add the basic jobs including a "Bare" job ala FFV that allows you to equip abilities from other classes to basically build a new one.

a axe wielding whm, your joking right, i hope they allow that just to see how hard and fast this game would hit a brick wall and die.
Man i pray they just add traditional classes the hybrid everyone is everything mess just isnt my cup of tea =/ idk call me old fashion but i like the idea of a whm being a whm healing and buffing making sure everyone is alive and well.
Maybe its just me but i really wanna see the classes broken up con= blm&whm make it 2 classes
Bah the split clas system was perfect if u wanted the spells from both (rnk50Whm/25Blm) sheesh.
I guess i'm crazy to say this formula was just perfect =/
Actually White Mages are pretty good choices for Equip:X skills in FFT :P and stranger yet, they are made all the better with the Charge command. That aside, if you wanted to be a WhiteMage/Devout with Marauder specialty bonuses, then I don't see how that would be bad for the game or you (especially if Devouts are in this game). There is no reason to normalize the job-system
If the sandbox anything goes build works and is fun then why doesnt anyone like the current system? It needs to be changed and there needs to be roles so devs can implement entertaining and engaging battles.
Actually, the armory system was probably the best part about XIV, and from what I could tell, most players agree with me. The addition of jobs was something implied and then outright mentioned by Yoshi-P, and has even more toolbox goodness potential. The battles are unenergized because of the way the battle itself takes place, not the preparation involved.
I am of the opinion that the only reason jobs were even considered for implementation was because the player base was too dumb/suborned/set in their ways/etc to figure out how to do it themselves with the Armoury System. So SE decided that they had to lead the players by the hand to find their defined roles.
