LOW FPS - GTX 660 Ti I5 2500K ~13 fps in towns

Most of us are having these low fps issues in crowded areas. Something needs to be corrected by S/E and or Nvidia to fix this. To help some try checking the box for Disable rendering of objects that are not visible (Occlusion culling). This helps and so far i've not noticed any restriction to graphic quality. Been using it for several days now. Also you can disable/hide rendering of shadows for other NPCs. Obviously this one will effect the graphic quality of the game. But until they fix the issues it's what i use. Not that it matters for FPS but i don't use FXAA and instead use SMAA. SMAA is just a tab bit more demanding but the worse my fps gets in crowded areas is 28. Typically high 30's in those situations. Everywhere else it's 50-125. Using a 560ti at 1360x768. All setting maxxed except the 3 i talked about. ASUS p8z68 pro gen 3 with a 2600k cpu running at 4.43ghz.

And no his cpu is not being taxed by this game. Game uses at max 30% of my cpu. His 2500k may be maxing at 40%. However his gpu may be throttling if it's hitting 75C. Not sure when they start throttling, 70C?

My GPU temp is ~50C - I use Asus GPU Tweak to monitor that.

Everything is fine with my hardware.

As I said before, I cleaned everything and:

- checked GPU drivers, found that dev ones are the best - using them right now
- installed new motherboard drivers
- installed new directx

Nothing helps, it's clearly the application. :(

I can tell your CPU is overheating...
how long have you had that CPU for? and what cooling did you give him?

it is not overheating. As I said couple of times before I monitor CPU/GPU/MB temperature and it is just fine.

And this CPU is little more than a year, also I bought that GPU card specially for FFXIV (it is something like 5 days).

Also I put termo pasta at my processor.

you gotta give your cpu temp, then test it in benchmark before entering the game...
also make sure you didnt overclocking your cpu, make sure default all in bios (if you did tweet something before changing to your new GPU)

Just panning the camera nearly halves FPS so clearly something is very wrong with the game.

Hello, you touch on something very important. Panning the camera, even in scenes where there's VERY little activity, can result in significant frame rate loss. However if you strafe with your character back and forth, there is no performance hit. The reason I mention strafing is that when you are panning the camera, your field of vision changes and more data is rendered on each side of your vision (on screen). Strafing produces the same result. Since there is no change in frame rate, the culprit originates with the panning. Also consider that in these spots, while there is little activity on screen that you can see with the naked eye, you are probably facing what I call a hot spot - this could be a crystal, camp or some type of hub with npcs, players and buildings, yet those objects are not rendered on screen. Possibly the culling function is broken in the options, however that does not explain the panning vs. strafing aspect.

Keep in mind this is not the same as pure performance hits. I.e. when standing in Gridania facing the crystal with eight five people around it, is going to eat your CPU whether you pan the camera or not.

Hello, see above. It is not just you however I would question whether it's happening everywhere for you. Note my comment(s) on what you are facing on screen when it occurs.

Does anyone else have sound stuttering/skipping? Im talking sound effects not playing when using spells, running/footsteps (especially), the background muttering (people talking) in the cities is more or less nonexistant for me, and sometimes the music even stops for a few seconds.

This is on top of a not very stable FPS, making me not want to play it. :(

Now that is interesting! Could you explain some more about this? this is the 1st I've heard of " hot spots " so I'm intrigued.

I do understand what you are saying, I have played enough mmos in the last years to understand exactly what you saying. Unfortunately, it happens everywhere. It does not matter if I turn the camera to a wall and then back to another one or if a turn the camera to a "hot spot" like you called it or not. Sadly, I have already tested, tried and theorycraft everything possible about this issue and nothing solves it.

Anyway, I hope any future patch or nvidia driver improves this, otherwise I will have to stop playing another mmo that I really enjoy.
