*chuckles* Level your ranking with Exp? Noooope. When it sync's to your lower classes then it's ranking would slow to a crawl. It's not Experiance. It's Kills. Don't believe me? Go to a low level area. Find one of those mass fates and start hitting them. Enough to count even if the damage doesn't rank you high on fate. After the fate is over check your Rank bar. It will have moved a nice chunk.

leveling thing not that big of a deal with me but being speced into a tank chocobo and it doesn't tank now thats a problem hardly uses its emnity skill and doesn't come remotely close to being able to keep threat against my monk which i wanted for the soul purpose to control the mob so i can do facing movements with ease.

We have the rest of forever to get the chocobo's up to max rank. Sorry it doesn't happen in a day. ><
But with time you'll get there. Just imagine if you really grind yours. You can be one of the first to have them max.

It's the only thing that takes a while to level... leave it in the game. Stop listening to people who want everything served with a spoon right in their mouth.
-
I don't care about having a grind. I care about the grind being engaging. As long as its consistently interesting, I can grind forever.

RE:
How many ranks does the combat chocobo have?

I never use mine. Not that interesting in my opinion.

I think the amount of inconveniences that can be attributed to the Chocobo companion makes if far less viable.
Not being able to mount, even with another mount all together is a massive pain in the arse. I understand the logic, but it seems to be 'level up this semi-useless companion, or be able to get around faster!", which brings me to the next issue. The fact that it needs a reagent (not really a big deal) can be annoying when you're only going to need the pet for a few minutes, mostly because you want to mount up, or join the dungeon finder (as mentioned above). Finally (and again, as mentioned), it's AI feels incredibly buggy and unresponsive.
Love the concept and not all the buzzed it'll take awhile to max out, I just wish it was less of an inconvenience to actually use versus not using it.

I'm fine with the level pace, I just don't agree with the DF. If I'm going to wait 30 min to an hour and a half for DF, at least let me level my chocobo. Just like switching classes, they should allow you to put him away to proceed or drop out of the slot. Chocobo should be more like a summoner's pet, where it displays like a party but still treats me like a solo player for everything in the game.

What do you want from a chocobo companion? You say their use is limited and find it painful to level, so why bother?
I'm nearing rank 3 and I've only pulled it out to farm with me. This is painfully slow? You can custom tailor its abilities more than your own...
