chocobo rank grindfest. problem?

So I don't know if anyone has discovered something to the contrary, but my experience thus far with chocobo rank leveling has been painful. Even at the lowest ranks an insane amount of exp is required, which can only be gleaned from combat (no fates or quests).

Also, because DF doesn't allow you to have your companion out, companion use is pretty limited.

Anyone else feeling this is all a bit off?

I don't know... I do FATEs and Hunting Logs with my chocobo. The ranking up isn't very fast, but should it be? Once it's maxed, that's it. I like the idea that it doesn't evolve too fast. :V

I like it, and I like the idea that I'll be able to level it up as I level up all my other classes. It doesn't have to be a fast leveling experience, we have enough stuff handed to us, let the chocobo be a time sink!

I don't think it's a problem because I see it as something optional, but I do wish you could use the DF while you had your chocobo out!

I got my Chocobo (Buster a Healer) to Rank 3 with just killing boars near Quarrymill while getting HQ Boar skins for my blacksmith guildleves. spent maybe a solid 4-5 hours out there and only got him to rank 3 definitely slow. I wonder if it would be much faster in a party of 4 with all chocobo's out. Also I noticed with my chocobo companion that when he got the killing blow no loot drops. I started my own thread about this possible bug.

I think its supposed to be like that, if you could get max rank from leveling one class only thatd be kinda stupid me thinks.

Personally I wish leveling a Chocobo was marginally better in terms of experience gain. Things just take too long and I gave up after Rank 3.

Not to mention the pet combat system for the Chocobo is really stupid. Either my Chocobo refuses to attack (even after changing its stance to defensive or free), or it takes its time getting to my target.

Honestly, I'd say improve Chocobo leveling entirely, remove it, or allow it to level along side the player.

I definitely agree leveling my Chocobo has been a major pain. Whether or not it's optional, it's a feature in the game, and one I want to invest. I don't think it should be incredibly easy to level up the Chocobo since I'm sure you can use it while leveling your other jobs. However, after seeing my Choco gain 98 xp after killing a level 48 on my 50... yeah, I was disheartened lol.

Agree...i love my chocobo companion to death, but it's a pain to rank him up considering you can't put them out when you're listed on duty finder. Why can't I do random stuff with them out while I wait for the queue? I hope they adjust the mechanics for them.
