I'm currently having the same problem. Playing game with normal 60+ FPS > driver crashes and recovers > game resumes at single digit FPS
I suppose it's a sad comfort that I'm not alone with this issue.
I'm running a GTX 660Ti. I have yet to find the root cause or a solution. I'll post back if anything develops.

I too am having a problem with my screen going black and coming back with very low fps. I have a GTX 660 FTW, and had the old 314.22 drivers. I've updated last to I believe the 320.49 drivers. I'm going to try and see if that works. If I get the same issue I can try the beta drivers and see if that works as well. Hopefully there can be a solution found.

Having the exact same issue, have even sent an email through to square support but not surprising there has been no reply. If I hear anything I'll let you guys know.

I was having the same problems in beta. My driver would crash, the game would kind of slow down until the driver booted back up agian and caught up. I found that using MSI afterburner, and resetting some of the toggles would make it quicker to recover.
Turns out it was my driver being unstable. Updated it, and had zero problems. That was until my computer started crashing and then did a memory dump. But I think that is another story. Think I fixed that problem.
I checked, and it doesn't appear that my graphics card has been optimized for FFXIV:ARR, as was stated by other people. Basically update your drivers, see if that helps your situation.

Still having issue. Yesterday I installed Windows on a new drive and currently using that. Spent the whole of yesterday playing without an issue, today however the crashing begins. Twice in a couple of hours. Square Enix are you paying attention to these forums are we wasting our time?
