Maybe they could call them Aetherstones or Aethershards or Aetherliths? Anyway great concept Midgard, hopefully the system is similar to your idea.

Oh come on! FF7 doesn't represent the whole Final Fantasy series
Lmao! The FFVII Card!! Ah SE! How have you fallen!!!
Eitherway, that materia system sounds a lot like the armor slots/get system we got in wow.
I like it, this game is more wowish each month :O
If I were to state an opinion, I'd say rename it.
While I loved FFVII, I somewhat detest how everything Square Enix does nowadays revolve around that game. But honestly, it's not a big deal.
EDIT:
Sonic_the_Hedgehog: I think those are good suggestions. They'd stay along the foundations of FFXIV, and keep the atmosphere. I think what bothers me with Materia is that it breaks with the feeling of FFXIV.
But then, we already know that it's not necessarily the final title.
If they were going to re-use a term. They could re-use Magicite as it has been used in multiple games now.
Except lolWoW referencing & SE could put a spin on it.Quote:

Materia system could be equip-able slots (armor having armor basically). "Materia" could be taken up as Key-items and you scroll through to find the one to equip. It's not "fused" and used up after you attach it. (/wish)
Either way i just hope it's not some half-assed slot/enchant system that you just tack onto equipment (even though it would still be good to have).
Odds are SE will be using it's beta testing (see: FF11) to do adapt Evolith or Synergy-like systems into how this will work.
Please SE do NOT make this random, yet have worthwhile stats.
