It played fine in 520p (Composite) in Phase 3. It requested 720p in Phase 4.

Unfortunately for me the game itself is just a tad too large for the screen on PS3. I can't see the bottom part of item descriptions and the bottom bit of the chatbox, the 'general, system and event' filters are cut-off.
In actual fact FFXIV was the only game it was happening on, which lead me to believe that it was the game and not my TV and I was hoping to see if the issue may have been addressed during the downtime.
If the problem still persists I will try your method.
That would be overscan, a relic from older displays. Most games and etc. adhere to the safe area which avoids a certain percentage of the edge of the screen.
XIV doesn't though. But you can customize the HUD layout until all the items are on screen manually.
Sadly the chatbox is the only display that you cannot move.
There's a way to bring up a cursor, and you can move it then. It's L1 and R3 at the same time to bring up the cursor. The same (I think) to put it away. You can grab the chatbox with the cursor over the "General" tab. I should also say, I've only read this, not actually tried it.
Has this been acknowledged by developers yet? I've been posting about this problem since early beta, as well as many other people. In the end, if I can't see or read what's on my screen properly, I will NOT be paying for your game until this is fixed. ALL other games either have an option in-game or make you adjust your display before you can do anything else, what the heck is wrong with you SE?
You can solve this problem (as long as you have HDMI).
In the games options, there's a section called Hud Layout. In this section you can change the size of every UI element. By default, most elements are on the medium size, which can cause certain elements to appear halfway on the screen. I believe this is the case for 720p screens.
To fix it you simply need to change the size of all affected elements to the small variation. This will cause everything to fit. Hope this helped!
This works for everything except the chat box, which cannot be moved, only made bigger by switching to mouse mode and dragging the top right corner. It'd also be good to reduce the size of the font further than the options currently allow.
