Great opinions, I just needed to hear different sides of the story in order to generate more concerns to discuss, but you all bring up great points. Check this thread please -> http://www.zam.com/forum.html?forum=...81012282691692

there is no "other side of the story"
people who post here usually those who stay with the game since before Yoshi-P take over, up till server shutdown
those people experience several drastic change on game mechanics: fatigue and physical level abolish, faster game pace, craft simplification, those "easy mode" you mentioned
MMO's are beyond casual there being made for people who are stupid now.
1. It still is, just in a different, less time consuming way. I mean sure you COULD blow straight through to 50 just to spam end-game like every other MMO or you could do it at your own pace and enjoy all the content laid out for you along the way with friends and the FFXIV community. I intend to do as I did in XI and get to know each and EVERY player on Balmung in the coming years as I build my character/s.
2. LOL I agree
3. I absolutely hated HNMs and all the drama that revolved around them. If I wanted a drama simulator I'd get married, not pay a monthly fee to a game.
4. The gear variety in both games around 2-3 years of their launch is about equal. Both games use a reskinned/recolored version version of other gear of the same type. Not to mention that they put a more realistic twist on the gear textures in 1.0(not sure if they kept it with new engine), where you could tell which robe a mage was wearing without actually examining them. Hemp robes looked like hemp cloth, etc.

IMO FFXIV one looks better unless you like tabards and giant pauldrons >.>;
I do agree that the combat system is a little too fast paced and flashy. I do miss the slower, more physically flashy moves like in XI and 1.0(minus the animation lock) instead of the generic attack animation combined with sparkles, rainbows and fabulous glitter we have now.
the wow factor is dead, but the only game i see bringing it back its EQ next.
hardcore MMO does not mean time sink, it means theres layers of depth in the systems, you work for what you get, equipment has meaning like if you got a hard to get piece of equipment people see it and say wow that guy is the man.
SW galaxys, FFXI, EQ, UO few other had that. like FFXI in the lv75 cap you had relic weapon people knew that guy did a special feat.
nowin FFXIV you just need to find a chest in a raid or beat the easy boss at the end to get the goods. relics were a joke to get in 1.0 minus the random BS thats the only reason not everyone has one the time sink from failed crafts or time sink of hamlets.
