For events and learning new content sure.
Not any other time, I am usually in a constant state of semi-afk-ness. I prefer it if they just send me /tells and I will reply when I get back to the pc.

I'm not a fan.
Sure, it's great when you have nothing to do or you're doing something big (instance, primal).
But at times where I just wanna play the game and I'm not doing something with my Linkshell I'd rather just enjoy the calmness of the moment. All that (mostly unrelated) talk while I try to enjoy a game makes me feel uncomfortable. I'd rather chat on these moments.
If these forums had an actualy poll function I would be able to make a much more detailed informative poll >< guess I could of made a poll on a poll site n linked to it but too late now!
I personally don't like to be on voice chat outside of questing/events. I often like to listen to my music undisturbed and there's nothing more annoying to me than hearing random chatter on ventrilo or mumble while trying to enjoy Symphony No. 9. or something similar.
One shell I was in was nearly 100% chat only with communication, and only said things in the game if was really needed. It didn't really work out well. Tech you know the shell I speak of.
Im sure I would recognize the name; as for a shell that was 100% mostly voice chat, Im not sure which you are referring too.
Me & Verg's old shell.
CT.
Sorry I drop so many F-bombs ; ; I gud tho!!
And yeah I get what you mean. If I stay on mumble for too long I start to get annoyed/headachy, so unless its right before/after an event where we linger around and talk about random stuff, I usually shut it off and listen to music/stare at Skye's Thancred sig/think of ways to destroy Thancred...I mean uh...play the game.
I'd totally squee around and T-bomb (Thancred bomb) on mumble with you until we scared everyone off the chat <_< >_>
XD You're fine Vil! one of my old LS leaders was like F*** this and C*** that, it really killed my game experience so I grew to hate chat even more-so. I'm a pretty private person, I don't mind text chat but if I feel like I'm forced into a voice convo I get narked and I'd just much rather chill on my own unless it's with an exceptionally cool bunch of people... and even then not too often D: lol.
For events/dungeons where it can be necessary then sure, but as soon as that event is over I am G-to-the-one.
impossible to be serious about raiding in the modern MMO era without using some sort of voice chat
