In-Game Voice chat

The PS3 crowd better brace for a certain degree of alienation however, since all add-ons will only work on the PC version as far as the devs have let us know.

Anyway, I don't see why they couldn't get a feature like this going as long as they can get it done in a way that doesn't mess with connection speeds and stability and whatnot. It shouldn't be that hard for them to do, although I agree that it isn't particularly necessary right now, although if it is, there's no reason that a PS3 player can't use a Vent or Mumble app on their phone or something like a PC user would use a third party program. I'm willing to bet someone would make an add-on for just that, though it would also only be available to the PC crowd as well.

No that person did not read it if he/she did, he/she would have not said most pc players use some type of out of game voice chat. This whole post was about making equal footing for ps3/pc.

Believe it or not, not everyone has a pc/laptop just sitting next to their ps3 ready to connect a headset to it.

By that logic, if someone were to say, create an addon for the PC version that allowed remote connection to a VOIP server, as the normal VOIP program would do itself, then if that became popular and was carried over to the PS3 client, VOIP on the PS3 is as simple as... well, that.

I also don't want to have the future PS3 playing community of FFXIV to feel alienated because they're unable to setup their play environment to accomodate an extra PC/Laptop purely there for the purpose of using a VOIP program.

Smart phone?

Even if they were to implement a voice chat into the game, very few would use it because everyone who needs it use their own servers where they have better control/quality of who they can hear.

Don't need the PC or laptop right next to the PS3, most ps3 players have a bluetooth headset, get a cheap bluetooth adapter to connect the headset to and your done (depending on the range) or what about smartphones, there are smartphone clients for Mumble, Vent and teamspeak, which just about covers them.

This will cover 99.9% of people that will be playing FFXIV including the PS3 players.
