What's a fantasy world without capes?

I think SE was talking about having capes in FFXIV a long time ago before release.... so you could probably count on it... would be awesome

Yeah i remember in Warhammer Online you could custom colour your gear and mount (although their colour palette was quite small and limited when I played)

I also would like to see capes added again as an additional equipment slot to increase the look and stats of a character, it would also be nice if some of them had limited use abilities like the + enmity one did in XI.

I kid. But I have been curious as to why SE decides to forgo implementing cape graphics. I think the first addon heavy armor reward from FFXI started the closest thing to a visible cape graphic. I also never took much note until now that FFXIV doesn't even have a cape slot altogether.

A dude in the opening cinematic is wearing a cape, right around the time it zooms in on the hyur midlander picking a guildleve from the counter with the roeg. behind it. He is in the corner talking to someone, but it looks pretty sweet.

Well, it is just one of the many graphical based things that needs implementing later on.

Since putting in a whole bunch of capes might be time consuming, maybe save it for a major patch, PS3 launch or an expansion? Still, I'm all for this idea, I was always jealous of the few NPCs in FFXI with fully physics-ed capes (Papsque Shamonde, Cornelia, etc). I was really hoping to have capes in FFXIV but so far, no dice. Hopefully you can put some stats-based capes in to allow for some variety that linkshell capes probably wouldn't have, but LS capes would be cool too! But yeah, i love capes lol.

Well hey, I kind of like the idea of capes to represent ones guild/linkshell but I also agree on the sentiment that many classes would not appear right with a cape. Maruader in heavy tanking armor might be fine but once he starts sporting leather it gets a bit silly looking in my opinion.

How about an option of how to sport your guild/linkshell crest? Maybe a bandana wrapped about ones head, or on a shield or perhaps a sash at the waist that would cover ones belt in addition to a cape option? Of course you could also have the option to just have the icon over your head in addition, just spit-balling ideas here.

Traveling the world with a long cape fluttering in the wind, with your crest on it. This was something I was really hopping FFXIV had. ;;;;

Maybe when/if they implement "advanced" classes you can "unlock" the ability to wear them.

I wouldn't mind wearing a capped haubergeon or cloaked dalmatica. It could just be something crafted on a body armor adding a little defense. No need to make a new slot and have every class wear one.
