On the first day of fanfest when Tank and Ranged was confirmed. I tossed the idea of ranged could be something like a "Yo-yo master" to my friends.
Yo-yos are whip like while not being a whip. You send it out and it comes right back. I can even see a fun victory emote that is just walking the dog as the animation.
As for the string. It can be kept as a straight line most cases or even just a battle effect and not a physical part of the weapon's model.
Plus, it doesn't need to be the size of a normal Yo-yo. It can be the size of a ... Blitzball! Plus, Yo-yos have been used as weapons before. Bridget being a popular example.
Plus, when they did the Q&A Yoshi-P said Yo-yo would be easy. For him to say that it could very well mean it's been tested before. So, while not for sure locked in for 8.0 a Yo-yo could end up as a weapon for a job someday.
I think crossbow is too basic and it has to be something unique and new.
We already have a crossbow lb2 and machinist has the auto-crossbow.
I'm thinking P.Ranged is going to be an arm cannon.
The only other P.Ranged weapon I can think of is a slingshot that isn't something the FF series that hasn't already been done as a full on job
Crossbow is a bit samey but I'd still love a crossbow and maybe like a little Falcon-mammet worn as a bracer for a Valkyrie/ Valkner job. birb!
I feel like a Hammer would be too similar in animation to a WAR's Axe. Heck, there's some Axes that ARE Hammers already. Dual Wielding two 1h Hammers, though...

I was thinking similar, make Musketeer (the guild has been in Limsa since forever) a real Job, and use Evolved to make it more about the guns, and move MCH even harder into the multitool-Edgar thematics, rather than the half-and-half that MCH currently is. Could bring back the old Ammo system as a gameplay element for it, or even evolve it a bit in some way, like making each shot have an elemental aspect and combos unleash bonus damage effects, inspired by FF Unlimited
Musketeer is technically a 'FF14 unique' Job because other games didn't call it Musketeer specifically
