Yet more glorified tomestone weapons

I'm enjoying the first relic takes a long grind to get or takes a few days to finish the quest. Then youc an get next ones much easier. Bozja i enjoyed the first tiem i did a resistence weapon. Mosstly because i did check on youtube what each stage looks like for each job before deciding which ones i want to grab. This one i feel like they took a grind because they heard the negative feedback from how easy EW relics were. I don't count manderville weapons as a true relic just an alternative for doing dailies or spamming pvp for series to dump tomestones in. Otherwise you get a one time grind fest for teh first weapon, and a rewar ot get follow ups easier. Woul rathor grind for one then get an easier time for 2nd. Then spamming the quests for follow up relics

When I saw stage three and four were 300 and 600 respectively I decided I had better things to waste my time on, I'll get the relic stage sometime when the meter fills... One day. I would be less put out though if they'd released this stage literally any week other than this one, who thought it was a good idea to release a relic step at the same time people are getting tome weapons? That's like releasing a FPS when Call of Duty or Battlefield is coming out.

As for making it a long term grind, I'm not inherently against that, I just don't care for it but if they did it had better be better than 5 ilvls behind tome weapon - If I have to spend an entire patch earning a shiny, it had better be the best shiny the patch has to offer.

This is why I find it hilarious when people are somewhat praising it because there's a 'tiny grind' behind it.

Like, these grinds are meant to last 4 months and still ultimately they are Tomestone weapons when you look at the grand scheme of it... Every grind will be undermined by the simple fact that everything subsequent is just tomestones... Not to mention the simple fact that essentially 2 of the 3 steps thus far comes down to... Doing dailies.

Not that I would expect the grind to actually last an entire month... But come on, these barely constitute as a grind.

It's crazy that we have something like DoH/L relics where you have milestones where the relic will get progressively easier, e.g., +50% at 1 complete, +100% at 3 and so on... Then we have these which is straight with the nuclear option because they are completely adamant that modern expansions need to be somewhat self contained.

Making a topic to bring back EW's relic system doesn't equate to nor implies that the poster was unhappy with long grinds. That's jumping to conclusions.

( and no I'm not really an EW relic proponent )

I've followed those threads extensively back when OC came out and the first relic steps with it and no, I don't believe you, because like half of the people you're conflating being unhappy with a long grind and being unhappy with the rng. Those are certainly not the same, and most of the feedback was aligned on the latter. And similarly in those thread too, people still felt their grind threatened at the core by complaints about imaginary things and made the fallacy constantly as a result anyway.

One-time grind followed by a repeatable tomestone step is the healthier and mor sustainable option for both worlds (specially on the long term), much as some people might struggle to come to terms with. Or, as an alternative, having the same step be shorter on subsequent steps like with Cosmic Tools.

You can have complaints about the way each one-time step is designed (like the atmas drop rate being unreliable or the array step being slowed significantly by the Alliance Raid part because of how often the lowest value raids, Crystal Tower ones, would pop) and their lenght but, in a game that increases the amount of Jobs and, thus, the amount of obtainable relic weapons each expansion, the amount of time required to get them all will increase and become harder to balance. With Dawntrail, the game already doubles the amount of jobs it had during ARR.

Do we have to get all weapons? No.
Should we the system allow getting all the weapons without spiraling into absurd amounts of time required? Yes, specially when looking to the future.

Not only that, but you could control which demi-atma you got from FATEs. While in OC, I had double the amount of all other demi-atmas while trying to get Verdigris. Had to go out to guarantee the 2 pieces missing. It's why I said a simple trader would've done wonders.

I think they were speaking about resistance relics.

The mere concept of """""relic weapons""""" doesn't actually exist in FFXIV, simply because the vertical progression of the weapons/gear, even with the oh so glorified extreme/ultimate weapons, they will become garbage/simple glamour in less than 2 months in terms of stats...

Way different compared with real relic weapons on Final Fantasy XI, they took months or even a years of pure grind and wait till it was your turn to have one, but it was worth it, they were the really ultimate weapons for the years to come, looks and stats wise. But that worked because they kept the level of the gear synced with you actual level. Even today, the gap between you and the ilvl of the gear is only 19!! While, at the moment, in FFXIV the gap is 700 levels...

It works in a way because people nowadays want immediate gratification and so so aesthetics, so is what SE gives to the majority of people, glowy weapons with somewhat nice aesthetics (time to time), and that's pretty much it. Stats? Nah, they will become trash in 2 months or less.

But hey!, lots of people prefer to have a more or less pretty weapon to show off in no time rather than a super hard grind that may take you years. That is the FFXIV formula and it works, so they pretty much will never change it.

Sir, this is a wendy's and most ppl play a paid MMO to have fun than thinking I want my new relic grind to be my 2nd job. Also, it's an MMO problem more than FFXIV since all gear will be obsolete in the new patches forever because it's a gear treadmill.

If other people don't want to do the DT relic, then I've got the tome weapon as a backup plan and you can do the new train Ex weapon too. Although I rarely did the old relics but I like the DT relics as an option so I don't have to buy crafted weapons for my alt jobs too. Finally, it's good that all DT relics are more accessible after the 1 time long grind step is finished too.

I'll just say that they really should have make crystal pastes more accessible in OC instead of out of OC. As of now, there is no incentive for people to engage with OC for current relic progression, especially considering that doing lvling is marginally better than CEs for getting crystal pastes.
