I fail to see how that solves a problem.
Instead of an auto run why not make the story more engaging?
Tbh I don't see what that feature would actually add because it doesn't solve a problem in the first place.
Even mobile games don't use it too much because games like Genshin focus on exploration.
Make the overworld zones smaller again, bring more gameplay between quests and tone down the back and forth. That would be the actuall lessons learned.
I don't think an auto run would damage anything but it's an entirely unneeded thing in anything that is not on a phone.
What I do have to say though is to keep teleporting to quest targets out of the game.
