That is not what they said at all. They said jobs are getting overhauled, but we shouldn't expect it to be so different that it's practically a different game. Like, every single time the devs mention job changes, someone starts yelling about the game becoming an action game, ala XVI. They just said that isn't what they are doing. I think the realistic expectation is something akin to the changes introduced in Stormblood, which were pretty fundamental but still kept the bones we had. But that's not the discussion here.

For most jobs the changes from HW->SB are too extreme to fall into this window. It just feels like a promise of ShB 4.0 where another finisher or 5 more potency on your 1-2-3 is touted as a “job change”

The gear that really needs to get freed from class-locked limbo is the single-job only crafter/gatherer gear - the King/Fiend/Soph/Rise/etc sets. You know, the sets that get released with every expansion for scrips, that nobody ever buys because aside from the fact that they're locked to a single class they also get outclassed by all-crafter/gatherer gear. The sets that almost always get completely unique models (like That One BSM-Only Top that just came out with DT) that are never reused for anything that actually has wider usability than the single crafter/gatherer they were initially designed for.


The real insult though? Over on the Chinese server (and I would imagine the Korean one too, but I haven't checked that for myself) - you can buy all of those outfits on their equivalent of the Mogstation. As Level 1, class-unlocked, glamour gear. Granted, the last thing this game needs is more microtransactions or store content, and I know the CH/KR servers are both handled by different companies and not SE directly, but still! The fact of the matter is that, the gear exists as proper glamour gear! We just don't have access to it as such on the global servers.

For emphasis he referred to the JOB SYSTEM, which is separate from the individual job DESIGN.

His more recent interview where he stated things will stay the same was in direct response to the fact there are people who have convinced themselves that the GCD is going to go away, positionals be removed, that the job overhaul is going to be something sweeping that fundamentally changes how the game is played. That's simply not realistic and has never been the case. There's a reason why he made sure to clarify that they are going to "expand upon" the base systems of the job system.

The Final Fantasy XIV combat experience will remain the same as it always has. No matter what 8.0 does, he was saying that the cor experience, GCDs, oGCDs, skills, abilities, leveling, the combo system. etc. the very basis of the battle system will remain the same. I do not understand how it is so difficult for people to understand this, why so many grasp at straws and ignore context to simply peddle the same nonsensical doom-posting drivel they always have.

YoshiP has been asked about this and we simply don't have them on the global client because they do not think they would sell well.

I like the gear restrictions. It gives the jobs something special and it makes glamour more of a challenge.

Not a bad kind of challenge either. It's fun for me.

This is genuinely funny to hear, considering how much I've seen people lament that they can't make any real use of pieces from some of the gearsets, and I'm sure those people would be more than willing to buy them off the store assuming they were more reasonably priced than the insane $18-22 most gearsets are. If they threw them on there for, say, $5 a set, I can almost guarantee they'd move quite a few.
Or - shocking concept - they could just make them obtainable as glamour gear in-game. The most insane part is that the lv80 sets have "costume" versions already, that you can buy from the Firmament - except those sets also for some inexplicable reason have the exact same level and class restrictions, so they're functionally completely pointless.

This should only realistically apply to the Job Artifact armor sets. The very lore of how glamming works has no specific mention that it's not possible to glam whatever you'd want. Just how it works -- that it's an illusion over-layed on top of what you're actually wearing. And nothing is designed with a specific job in mind anyway, excluding the Artifact sets. The gear itself? Fundamentally nothing changes there either. Tanks have the highest Vitality and Defense / M.Defense stats. DPS have the highest Main-Stat and meaninglessly split defenses (they all average 17-20%% less damage taken anyway). Tanks don't get Direct Hit but they gain Tenacity, and Healers gain Piety.
And yet everybody builds Crit > DH ≥ Det.
Fantasy? We'd literally have MORE fantasy fulfillment by opening it up.

There's really, absolutely no reason we shouldn't be able to glam whatever we want, besides Yoshida saying "nuh uh I don't wanna".

yes, but fundamentally doesn't necessarily mean just a spit and polish. If we are talking about a level squish where everything starts at level 50, that would mean reworking all job progression, and it'd put every job on equal footing for the end game content like ultimates where a large number of jobs were simply unwieldly because being at 70/80/etc. left them at half power. this is true for jobs like Black Mage, Viper, etc.

i would consider that a revamp that a lot of players would be happy with. i would also be happy if they drastically cut down on button bloat. having your 1-2-3 combos on one button like Viper has would be immensely helpful, especially to players who play on console and controller.

I like how people start calling each other out on reading comprehension when in reality all we have from the producer has been one or two enigmatic sentences that everyone chose to interpret in many ways and extrapolate to fit their view until it sounded like the absolute and only truth.

Do I expect a lot of meaningful changes after the latest line? No, but that means literally nothing. That's just me being pessimistic with their track record and current direction.
