from zero to gold 4 it took me 80 victories because silver was hell!
from gold to platinum it took me way less than that... I would need to check it out, but must have been around 10-15 matches if memory does not fail, i wish the game would let people see those stats
I'm not going to say CC is perfect and wouldn't benefit from some changes.
What I will say is that it's still my favorite mode in the game and I have a lot of fun playing it.

what are the rewards for reaching diamond?
CC is great for a shorthand consumption of PvP and really showing off what you are capable of unlike FL since most of FL involves massive skirmishes and just kind of throwing things at the biggest pile of people baseline. CC does have its issues though truly but nothing is perfect, but due to how fast CC can be match time wise unless you consume a ton of it and have to deal with the poor balance decisions multiple matches back to back its quite enjoyable.

CC itself.. it's more competitive than FL for sure yea, it's kinda fun mostly BUT it can be very frustrating by design of match making. sometimes u can see what's the result of the game by start.
