Racial background info

As it is now it seems that speech mannerisms and behavior are tied more heavily to city-states, and that's alright, but beyond that it'd be nice to have NPCs that sounded and behaved differently based on race and the race of otherpeople around them.

Also Duskwight? Dunesfolk? Hellsguard? There's no cave civilizations, no dunes, no volcanic regions, nothing to support these sub-race's origins. It'd be nice if Seekers of the Sun and Keepers of the Moon even mentioned something about the sun or moon.

There's one Miqo'te retainer that rolls her Rs on occasion "There's no call for concerrrn"
I'd imagine the naming conventions would be the same for them as the Mithra naming conventions, since they're both predatory races.

Sesaburu Mesaburu and stupid sounding stuff like that. It makes me think they hired 3 year olds to name all their Lalafell NPCs :x

It goes beyond naming conventions though. It's almost as if everyone is of the same heritage but with a different appearance. There's no concept of culture.

And if the devs truly intended Eorzea to be a cosmopolitan melting pot of zero racial identity, then you'd think there's be a lot more interspecies breeding to say the least >_>;

There must be a reason for that though, right? Plus, it's true that people that live in a different country which has people who have a different accent from their own develop the same accent as the native population, either out of habit or necessity so that may be the case here as well.

It's looks as though they kind of just used the XI races to populate Eorzea, without really giving any thought to their origin aside from mentioned obscure names of places they could implement later.

Wait, and Shantoto, Babubu, Yoran-Oranm Kupipi, Chayaya, Leepe-Hoppe, Atori-tutori, Chomomo, Abobo are less childish sounding... those are just a few of XI's Tarutaru NPCs

The naming conventions of Lalafells, and Tarutaru are identical.

Elezan and Elvaan share a pseudo french naming convention, and the Hyur and Humes share share a Latin/germanic naming style

The Roegadyn and Galka share the odd almost stereotypical native American naming convention though the Roegadyn more often than not use their "native" Norse sounding spelling so you get thing like Merylwyb instead of Iron Eater like in XI

the Miqo'te and Mithra are the only ones that seem to diverge at all with most Miqo'te haveing a name starting with a single letter followed by a glottal stop then the rest of their name, like Y'shtola, where as XI the mithra were the only ones who seemed to more often than not have a first name and surname a'la Nanaa Migho.


as to the speech conventions, More often than not your speech is going to be more like the dominant culture in which you live, not by what race you happen to be born as. and second...seriously the Tarutaru speech patterns sounded like baby talk and got really grating really fast, but I guess some people found it cute. The mithra on the other hand. I actually was really happy when it became apparent that the Miqo'te didn't trill every "r" like the Mithra did. I was glad that they dropped one of the biggest cliches of anthropomorphic cat people, cats don't purr all the time and there is no reason to assume that if the had the same dental/facial structure as a human that they would for some reason trill all their "r"s...is it to drive home the fact that they're cats? The ears, tails, and eyes do a good enough job of that they don't need a speech impediment.
