Endwalker was probably the most accessible relic we will ever have or will ever see. Its simplicity and accessibility are unmatched. The only thing that the relic lacks is a sense of prestige.

Here's the thing, it wasn't poetics at launch. It was the uncapped tomestone. NOW it's fine, because holy moly there's basically nothing to spend poetics, but at launch it sucked because you HAD to spend your capped tomestones on them if you wanted to progress them.
As an option? Yes, fine. I think it's good to let people kind of passively work towards them if they just want to log in and do dailies. But there needs to be an alternative grind (hopefully the new field operation zone?) for folks who want to use their uncapped tomestones on something else (like crafting mats etc.).
I do think if they offer it as an option it should be about 2000 tomestones per step though, to really make you think about whether you want to do the real grind or not.
I preferred it personally but I know im not in the majority here.
I rather do content if i want to do content, not be forced to do it for a relic.
I don't understand some people saying they are "forced" to do content for relics. Relics are glam, they are not mandatory.
For EW, at least, there was ALWAYS a better weapon available before the relic, be it from EX, S, Tomes, Crafted. So the relic was never mandatory or required for anything and you could get an equivalent weapon or better in a number of ways of your choice.
Relics are a nice "thanks for playing" at the very very end of an expansion. A memento of your journey. Without the journey, they are a bit worthless and lack any achievement or prestige. EW relics nothing but tomes vendor weapons. Nice glam, sure. So are the 660 tome vendor weapons.
I specifically did not do the Endwalker relics until Dawntrail for 2 reasons;
1. I didnt want to become a mertric on a spreadsheet that was okay with this method of Relic aquisition.
2. Something to spend my poetics on once Dawntrail landed.
Relics were basically the only piece of content that was somewhat difficult to complete before the next patch. So much "content" in XIV is transitory and it kinda sucks (transitory meaning that its something people skip).
No one force you to do relic. Maybe you're the one who should change your mindset.
Also funny you say that because we're actually "forced" to do Hildibrand just to unlock and progress the relic quest.
Tomestone relic system like in EW is straight up trash. It was okay if it's only the first step, but no it had to be the whole thing.
All methods have advantages and disadvantages.
The own preferences decides which is to prefer.
Those that dont like to grind will probably like the EW Method more than other ones.
And those who do like the grind will prefer other methods.
