Fisher NEEDS a rework

To you perhaps. It is very different for others, especially those in the JP player base where fishing is extremely popular.

Just because something is there doesn't mean you need to do it if you don't enjoy it. I level fishing strictly so I can catch what few fish I'll need for crafting and otherwise ignore it.

That doesn't mean I think it should be altered to suit me while destroying it for those who enjoy what it currently is.

If you're not having fun with it, don't do it.

I understand that some people wish for FSH to have more utility than it currently does, but personally, I'm quite satisfied with its current state. It seems that other fishers share this sentiment, especially considering the recent updates in DT.

You have to get a bit creative but there is more than fish for craftigen recipes and aether sands. You can still fish for the bathing suits and sandals, collect gathering scrips and turn them into money with materia or the new mount for example, you can grind in Diadem for Ishgard reconstruction and sell mounts and stuff you can get from the skybuilder scrips.

Sadly the pets you can fish are worthless now since they added the loot boxes for GC seals.

If you actually want to play fisher you can always find a reason to do so and make some money. But if you don't look deep enough you will only see the 2-3 fish used for crafting recipes and that's it.

I would like for the fishes in general to be more relevant than they currently are. A lot of them are worthless once caught, and the rest have their usefulness vary depending on the expansion/patch.

How many CUL recipes use fish vs the stupid amount we have?
How many other crafters use fish?
How many fishes are available to be showcased in aquariums? Currently we are missing other fishing environments that could be very interesting (skyfishing aquarium? Yes!) and a very minuscule number of the fin-havers can even be put in there. Not to mention that you cannot remove them once in, which I would like as a QoL.
Can I please have a tacklebox, my inventory is drowning in bait.

I'm satisfied with the current gameplay of FSH, just not the relevance of the catches.

Fair amount actually! Beyond CUL using fish, Alchemist use fish as well, and the latter's fish products are used with basically every other crafter. There's even unique fish-only sands each expansion. (Mythbrine, for DT for instance, if you're raiding and crafting your own gear, you'll need it)

162 Rod Caught Fish, 51 Spearfish can go into aquariums.

And yes, I would also like to see at least Aetherchemical or Salt-lake fish get added as aquarium biomes.

This has actually been addressed! One, you could use Versatile Lure if you want, but two... SE has already stated that (at the time) they would rather give everyone more general inventory space than a specific tacklebox only a small portion of players would use. There's MORE people fishing now though since that was aid, so who knows if that'll change.

Some other facts:
There's 197 total collectable fish, some of which are used to desynth into sand or glioaethers.
15+ desynth into a glamour items (one is actually a piece of crafting gear, another a crafted primal weapon)
288 (at least) give materia of some sorts.
There's a handful of minions that come from Fishing as well.


1,418 rod fish and 289 spear fish are in the game as of patch 7.0.

... There's a lot used. Not all of them, but WAY more than people expect.

I enjoy fishing, but I would be considerably more motivated if they added more variety to what can be put in an aquarium. There's a long list of what can be showcased, but many of them are very similar or just boring to look at.

I like fisher and the DT updates were extremely good.

I wish more desynths were interesting.

the only thing fisher needs is a high lvl spear fishing gig. It annoys me so much to have that lvl 61 offhand.

There's an easier way to fix that. Don't include the offhand slot when it comes to calculating average item level. That shouldn't be difficult consider all the combat jobs that don't even have an off hand.

Some of the green fish desynth into rare drops. It makes fishing a little more exciting and worthwhile.

Overall fishing needs to be more rewarding. There are a ton of fish that are absolutely worthless. Every fish should have a purpose outside of desynth into common drops. It would even be nice if they gave more and different kinds of crystals.
