Both are extremely important if you want to be decent.

True, they pretty much are forcing you to level other jobs. But if you give up stats such as Int and mind for -enmity. It's gonna hurt your damage.

No, they are not forcing you. And plenty of people don't have these and still get into parties. It's not essential unless you do things like Garuda or 5CSR.

Also, that sounds more of a connection issue to me. I don't get d/c that much and when I do it's usually on my end.

Not exactly a valid argument, but let me put it like this. If it was for everyone then you'd see the same problem with everyone and that just isn't an issue for everyone.

Chameleon gives you the potential to do 840damage/180s = 4.7 DPS more. This is about ~5% of your damage output. This is not a straight increase in your damage, you will need to see if you are reaching the enmity of the tank first (Do not use the first ~20 seconds of the fight to judge this).

If you are well geared, then this skill is essential to further increasing your damage. Otherwise it is just a safety net.

I level BLM to 50 and don7t have chameleon yet and to be honnest, you NEED it
in the last parties I could just FIre > Fira and that's it, one more spell and I take all aggro
so need to stop and wait... which makes you not so useful because you just stand there and as Black mage you can't event take that time to heal people or something so you are just not useful

it's super annoying, especially if like me you are only interested in magic job but yeah, need to get that lv42 archer skill unfortunately...

What else is there to do in this game? Honestly, you should try to be well rounded

I have to do content with a BLM who doesn't have Chameleon and dear lord he takes hate every fight. So I change my stance on the topic, Chameleon is almost completely mandatory for any BLM.
